Should be streaming on the A10 website. You can also get the link through gorhody.com
Thank you, and I apologize for being too lazy to look myself originally. I hate when others do that and then just did it myself...

Still up 4-1 after 5. Wilson should be in the 75 pitch range.

URI adds one in the bottom of the 6th and it's now 5-1 URI going into the seventh. Here's where things get complicated. With Wilson probably just shy of 100 pitches normally it would be a no brainer to send him out for the seventh, but if you want him to come back on Saturday you need a quicker hook then normal. URI went to the pen, and I agree with that decision.

6 IP for Wilson, 112 pitches (that's what I get for trying to work and keep track of the game, 2 hits, 1 unearned run, 4 k's, 2 walks. Rhody bullpen gets the first of three innings done, and we go to the seventh inning stretch up 4.

I don't follow college baseball all that much, but how do you bring a guy back on 2 days rest after throwing over 100 pitches? Is that something that happens regularly in these situations?

And a quick 1-2-3 inning ends it. URI advances to play Davidson tomorrow at noon with the game being carried on TV by ASN. The winner advances to the championship on Saturday afternoon, the loser plays again tomorrow at 7. We beat Davidson in a non-conference tournament matchup in mid-March but didn't play them in conference.

I don't follow it enough to say for certain myself. I'd imagine it would be an all hands on deck, one or maybe two inning situation.

Huge upset by Davidson (finished 11-11 in A10 play with 2 games cancelled due to weather). URI finished 18-6 to win the A10.
Virginia Tech was the #2 seed knocked off by Davidson.
VCU finished 15-7 - with the 2 games against Davidson cancelled so play only 22 games.

A 20 year old kid can come back on two days rest and give you a few innings once a season or so without risking injury. You obviously could not pitch a kid every 2 days over the whole season but doing it once with a young arm without a ton of miles on it should be fine.

ramster - I think you mean Virginia Commonwealth not Virginia Tech....they've been out of the A10 for over two decades!

Yeah, 1 or 2 innings I get. I was thinking they were talking about starting him again and throwing another 100+ pitches. I was gonna say, no wonder all these guys need TJ surgery a few years later.

Truth be told, it's not good for the kid, but with the way college baseball is structured, it basically becomes a necessity. Generally, a school like URI's only shot to make the NCAA tournament is to win the conference championship. In order to do that, sometimes you have to stretch and bring you top guys back sooner than you normally would to give yourself the best shot at winning your conference. You will also see this at times with bigger schools (SEC/ACC), but you'll see coaches doing this in order to improve their chance at hosting a regional at their own field.

Again, probably not the best thing for the kid, but not uncommon with the way baseball's postseason play is structured.

Exactly right on bouncing back. Chances are he throws a bullpen session two or three days after his starts. Obviously quick turnaround, high stress situation, but if you get to a second game on Saturday pretty much all of your pitchers will be gassed.

If URI wins tomorrow I don't see them using Wilson in the first game on Saturday. If they lose game one on Sat and they're down to an elimination game, I bet he can give them an inning or two.

It's too bad knowing how the game ended up that we didn't jump out a little earlier so we could have pulled Wilson after 5. Every bit helps. Winning in the morning tomorrow would be huge as far as keeping other guys rested too.

Senior Steve Moyers is very capable. 85 innings pitched with a 3.1 era. Excellent #2 guy, plus Davidson will be throwing their #3 pitcher so good advantage for us today. This is why getting the BYE is so important in the Tournament.
Moyers pitched our first game of the season at Nationally Ranked Florida State and pitched well.
He also had a great game against Big Ten Maryland pitching 8 innings losing 1-0 with the run unearned, gave up only 4 hits.

For Saturday Ben Wessel would get the start. Wilson pitched game 2 against FSU and Wessell pitched game 3 against FSU.

The big question would be who starts if we have to play the IF game on Saturday at 3:30pm. Whitman or Flanagan would be the likely options. Likely would see numerous guys go an inning or two.

Go RHODY!!!

Davidson has yet to throw their #1 pitcher (Clark Beeker). Good chance he goes today.

Good point.
I did not realize Beeker had not pitched yet.
Beeker was 1st team All A10 as a starting pitcher along with our own Tyler Wilson.
I am surprised he did not go in the first game on Wednesday then be able to pitch again on Saturday.
Could turn out to be a brilliant Coaching move if it works today.

Smarty,
You were right Bleeker on mound for Davidson, Moyer for RHODY.

Tyler Wilson is listed as the DH for URI - does that mean he could switch in and out at any time since he is up in he line up?
Also O'linger is listed as the DH for Davidson - same question - is this a strategy to allow for subbing for the pitched different than if he was not in the line up?

What a throw by Livingston. Lead off double for Davidson. Pitch gets away from catcher and he throws an absolute strike to third for the out. 1 out nobody on now!

Not trying to make excuses for Davidson, but maybe they held Beeker back because he's not 100%. His start today certainly didn't jive with his numbers this season. Like, at all.

That would make sense. Although Wilson was our best pitcher last year and we didn't have him go in game 1. There must be different strategies on how to set your pitching.

Not only are we playing good today, we look good today. The grey jersey with the dark blue trim and Keaney letters and numbers is super sweet. It's almost a good thing that you can't buy a lot of authentic merchandise because I would be more poor then I am now.

St Joe is beating VCU right now 5-1. If St Joe wins and then beats Davidson tonight then St Joe will have played 4 games to URI's only 2 games at noon tomorrow
If Davidson beats St Joe then Davidson will have played 3 games to URI's 2 games at noon tomorrow

Whoever plays URI will have to beat URI twice to win the Championship. We are in the driver's seat at this point.

So, if URI wins today does that result in an NCAA appearance?..Or is that it?

Also, how is Bryant looking for an NCAA appearance?

Sorry, not sure how NCAA baseball works but would love to see an RI team make some noise.

URI up 3-0 after 3.

El Diablo, if we win today then we do make the tournament. I also believe Bryant would be in, I think they've been ranked the last half of the year, though I heard one of their best players is out.

Look at my previous post link that shows a projected 64 teams.
URI wins today and they automatically go NCAA.
If Bryant wins today they automatically go.
Boston College and Fairfield are two other NE schools that should be in the tournament.
URI is looking very strong and romping over Davidson through 6 innings so far

Such a dominant performance in the A-10 tournament.
We should be a threat to win some games in the NCAA's.
Finally, a reason to watch baseball ;)
