At least today they'll have a different color for the shooting background -- RED.

66% at home and 62% on the road. 70% in 5 neutral games.TruePoint wrote:What was the breakdown last year? Yet another game and yet another chorus of "if we hit our foul shots we will win" - the game comes down to so much more than that stop simplifying it to suit your tired agenda.

Beating a Nebraska team who's projected to be in the basement of the B10 is not a resume building win, beating a ranked Nebraska last year wasnt even a resume building win. The real resume building portion of our schedule has likely already been played. Beating any combination of VCU, Dayton, Davidson, GW will be nice wins but likely not enough for at large consideration, even when you factor in a "bad loss" game which we are also likely to have against a Fordham, George Mason type team. Our path to the ncaa's will likely be determined at the Barclay's Center.rambone 78 wrote:Pretty good assessment overall I would say.
This is the kind of game URI needs [has to?] win, to have on their resume in March.
Being the first true road game, it's likely to be a close one.
They make their FT's, at least 70%, I'd say this will be a win.
Anything less, and this will be the type of game where poor FT shooting will cost them a win, like the Valpo game.
Can't afford any more of those.

I mean....this is a good angry hot take. But it's not factually accurate. There is clearly a path to an at-large, which is to go 3-1/14-4 or 4-0/13-5. How likely are either of those scenarios? Probably not overwhelmingly probable, but certainly possible. And guess what? If this team is an NCAA tournament team they'll do it, and if they aren't they won't. So it works out the way it should. But a win today at Nebraska would be a good start and would tell us a lot about what kind of team we have.Shinze88 wrote:Beating a Nebraska team who's projected to be in the basement of the B10 is not a resume building win, beating a ranked Nebraska last year wasnt even a resume building win. I know Nebraska isn't any powerhouse, but it's a road game with a big crowd most likely.
We haven't played a true road game yet, so this will be a good indicator of where we're at, like TP said.
The kind of game we should win, if we're going anywhere. They have played 2 ranked teams tough at home. This won't be easy.
No excuses. Win the damn game. I've had enough of "almosts" and "what ifs".

I wouldn't say its an angry take as much as just being realistic. There is no way you can use any factual metrics at this point in the season that would make what I said inaccurate. You contradict yourself when you say this team can achieve a good record and then finish the sentence with its not not overwhelmingly probable, by that logic you can make that same argument for any team in the A10 right now. I want this team to be in the ncaa's by any means possible, I'm just not at all sold that our an at large bid is the most likely path.TruePoint wrote:I mean....this is a good angry hot take. I think it is too early to say that the regular season is shot and it's win in Brooklyn or bust. There is still a lot that can be accomplished. I'm not smart enough to know what is going to happen, which is why I watch.

The regular season may not yet be shot but there isn't exactly a lot of promise for the remainder of the slate given what we have seen thus far.
Our three best opportunities for signature wins in the OOC are behind us. All three were losses. While the loss to Maryland was expected, the margin and fact we were never really in the game was troubling. While the losses to Valpo and PC were close, they were losses none the less. They were made even worse because both were at home and they were wasted opportunities (where Rhody was actually slightly favored by Vegas in both). While URI played well in many facets of the game vs Valpo, bad ft shooting (13-24) on its own was the difference maker in the 58-55 loss. Our shooting woes were overcome in the game vs the Friars but our defense had issues as we gave up 46 points in the paint. It was encouraging that we hung in there with a ranked team tying it with seconds left. It however was all for naught when we allowed PC to inbound the ball and go the length of the court with about 6 seconds left and get off not just one shot, but two. As our OOC winds down, we have lost to all the better teams for one reason or another and our wins are all against teams with less talent.
It is looking very much like seasons of the past where we beat the lessor teams and play the better teams tough yet still lose. Nothing I have seen through the first nine games makes me confident that things will be different. We still have a few difficult OOC games left with two of them in hostile road venues. The A-10 is looking pretty competitive at this point and should be tough. We are not likely to roll through the conference schedule. Making things even more difficult, many of the key games are on the road (GW, DC, VCU) with no return games.
This season is not yet over. Rhody could still get several big wins and build a resume worthy of an NCAA bid. URI would however have to play much better than it has to date and greatly improve on its problem areas (mainly scoring and FT's). The optimist perspective says that this is possible. The realist perspective says that great improvement is not likely based on performance to date.

Iverson has amazing ability and potential. Let Thompson take more 3's - he's on fire.

Is our team coached to never EVER pass the ball in transition? We would make the '86 Celtics cry if they had to watch us on a fast break. It used to be that good basketball meant the ball never touching the floor in transition; we have changed it to never pass in transition under any circumstances...whoever has the ball MUST try to score, even if it is a terrible shot. This has driven me nuts for years.

Not sure Nebraska is even playing basketball. Very hands-y. They have that mentality of just foul a ton and they won't call them all. Huskers also aren't scared to travel.
