This likely means GMU Assistant Coach and former URI Ram Roland Houston will be looking for a new job as well.

Who knows how accurate the rumors are, but Anthony Grant to George Mason would be outstanding and create some interesting headlines. He set the stage for Smart's success at VCU.

Anthony Grant was a star not too long ago or at least a rising star.

I Think that would be huge. His big forward that was highly touted transfering hurt them. And Lacy. Keep those two and Bama is in a different position.

Also Billy Donovan ties.

Grant and Laranagra are the 2 names i'm hearing most. Jay is Jim Larranagra's son who took GMU to the final 4 in 2006 before leaving for Miami in 2011

George Mason fires Paul Hewitt

Unread post by NJRhodyFan »

Looks like Hewitt is out at George Mason. Interestingly enough, a good number of comments underneath the article are calling for Bobby Hurley to take over as head coach. Both Hurley brothers back in the A-10? Could be good for the league.

No way will that happen. They're not going to coach against each other.

Bobby is going to make a jump much higher than Mason as well. He'll be at Buffalo another year or two though.

Agree 100%. Bobby has a good team coming back.
Besides, he needs to hone his craft.
He's only been a head coach for two seasons.

I'm waiting to hear about BCS casualties......these other schools don't really pose a threat to the A-10 for losing our good coaches.....Georgia Tech looks like it will not fire Gregory because they are already paying 2 other former coaches next year and they don't want to go higher....

I would think Bobby would stay at least one more year. He has his 3-4 best players coming back. Plus a great incoming class.

But if he wins some games in the tournament. Hes going to be tough to keep. I think St Johns would be possible in the future.

I still can't believe smart people still think like this. Unless they cannot actually write the check for a third coach, which is doubtful, you are paying Hewitt and Gregory either way. Two sunk costs. They don't really have any impact players. One 2015 recruit. That's a place you can win big. Should have started over.

I think the economic term is a moral hazard, right? ;) It usually leads to pro teams making their worst decisions, like the horrible trades Thomas made as GM of the Knicks in an attempt to save his own job.

Unless they move fast......

Dan Radakovich let Hewitt go but had a contract that paid him the whole amount so Hewitt laughed all the way to the bank with $7.5 million then months later took the GMU job. Maybe Hewitt negotiated a similar contract at GMU and can now get 3 pay checks at his next job - dumb like a fox.

Radakovich moved on to be AD at Clemson. He hired BG.

God help Holy Cross.
Notice, even though everyone left, Oregon State had
a much better year (17-14) than most of Robinson's years?
At Brown, he won with Glen Miller's players, and
left the cupboard bare, when he left for OSU.
Guy sucks as a coach, and uses his Entertainer in Chief connections
