not alot of chatter on the game today.... so far a very lackluster performance, especially on defense, team not playing very inspired ans so far St Joe's has showed better intensity.

Hopefully we'll come out with a lot of fire like we usually do in the second half. Enough to put us over the top. We need this one.

Looked like Coach Hurley said something that Bembry agreed with after the foul call on Martin, he reached back toward Hurley like "no kidding, these refs are horrible."
Looked like a makeup call to me.

Great start to the second half. Had to expect a rough start with Senior Day and all. Looking much better right now though.

They have been pretty bad both ways to start the second half. Seems like they decided they want to make it all about them to start the half. Must be jealous of all the attention the players are getting.Keatgsr07 wrote:Looked like Coach Hurley said something that Bembry agreed with after the foul call on Martin, he reached back toward Hurley like "no kidding, these refs are horrible."

Bembry is a hell of a player. Hassan is right there with him though.

I want this lead to get big enough for two things to happen at the end...
1. TJ and Gil can come off the floor to a huge ovation
2. And Youncofski can get in the game and put up a shot!

Re: Game #29: St Joseph's - Saturday 1:45p - SENIOR DAY
I like that they all cut their hair. Fresh start!
Great win for senior day.
Jared T would be better on offense if he didn't sulk when away from the ball. He doesn't prepare to catch the ball and do something with it. He kind of sulks and then when the ball comes he becomes erect and makes a move. That's tough to shoot that way. Great shooters prepare their body before the ball reaches them.
On to brooklyn!

One of the more enjoyable RC games. Great way for the seniors to go out.

Great to see they got their mojo back. Didn't look tired today. Looking forward to next week. Definitely the best Senior Day in a long time.
Gil's best half of the year. I wish Dan had let him stay in or at least come in earlier after going out.
Another unimpressive game for JT and the bench (sounds like a singing group). But, we won.
That mascot is the worst. Is he supposed to get people excited? If Dan could only channel his anger to the ram, we'd have our old Rhody Ram back.

Re: Game #29: St Joseph's - Saturday 1:45p - SENIOR DAY
Finally, a great ending to a Senior Day game; TJ is such class, with a kiss for the Ryan Center floor, Neva forgot his freshman year, hoops by the harbor, early season event, he worked the room like polished pro. Have missed his GF who normally sits in front of us with her screams. Gil obviuosly had game of career here. All good going forward for Eric in a coaching career, part of the emerging Coach Hurley tree??....the culture change nears completion and thank you Coach Hurley and staff for getting us to where we are.....just win the next one....

Great win. I'm glad they could pull it out after such a rough start, and what a perfect ending for TJ, Gil, and especially Eric. Honestly, I'm kindof sad that a large majority of our enthusiastic fans in the student section are leaving. Im really gonna have to step it up next year.

Great day .... almost didn't make it because of my bronchitis (sorry to the people sitting next to me!) Perfect senior day .... Gilvydas and TJ get to show off their talents after a very emotional Senior Day presentation. Thanks to all the coaches and the players who have made Rhody basketball such a joy again!

Re: Game #29: St Joseph's - Saturday 1:45p - SENIOR DAY
Very nice Senior Day. They had a video message from TJ's fiancee with baby son pregame. TJ and much of the crowd was in tears. Played the Lithuanian Nation anthem with Gil's host family holding the Lithuanian flag. TJ went out and scored 13 points. Gil was a force in the 2nd half and was Rhody's high scorer with 18. Eric capped the day off with his basket with just seconds left. Very nice touch by Buchanan to kiss the RI logo at center court when he was being taken out in the last minute.
Even had Sly Williams sitting court side and he got a strong ovation when he was announced and shown on the video screens.

Re: Game #29: St Joseph's - Saturday 1:45p - SENIOR DAY
I can't remember a more perfect senior day.
Oh, and UMass beat GW which puts them in line to "possibly" face Rhody in the A10 Tournament instead of UMass (which in my opinion is always a blessing when Rhody doesn't have to face UMass).
ERIC, GIL & TJ...YOU WILL BE MISSED! THANK YOU FOR ALL OF YOUR HARD WORK!
- Lithuanian National Anthem for Gil.
Video for TJ from his fiancé (such tear jerker).
Gil having the game of his life with 18 points (I think it was 18...) and a couple of steals.
TJ was hitting his shots as well and finished with 13 points, which is his jersey number. He kisses the floor before leaving the court.
Gil and TJ get a standing ovation.
After overcoming a 9-0 deficit in the beginning of the game, Rhody had a big enough lead at the end of the game, so Eric could come in and he hits a floater to score the last basket of the game.

All things considered, a very enjoyable and entertaining regular season. Great bunch of kids.
Today couldn't have been handled with more class. Kudos to all involved.

Re: Game #29: St Joseph's - Saturday 1:45p - SENIOR DAY
Just back from the game.
Little punchy from inhaling anti-freeze, after my car blew up
in the Ryan Center parking lot.
Luckily, I had a gallon of wiper fluid in my trunk, which I put in in the
Keaney lot. So I got home with the heat up all the way and the windows down.
Anyway, I had the greatest time today, until that!
Got there plenty early and was kibitzing with Blue Man, Milan, Blueram,
and Ramulous.
The pre game ceremonies were the most emotional I've ever seen.
Dan kissed Gilvydas, and that video with TJ's fiance and the baby
was very moving.
The game started out with us down 9.
There second half was some of the best offense I've seen us run in awhile
This team is at its best when Garrett probes the lane and either takes the shot
or dishes off. That kid is a good player.
Hassan was great. EC had a good game.
Player of the game had to be Gilvydas. he played pretty much error free ball.
TJ's first half was the best I've seen him on offense.
I think our defensive intensity is lessened from our peak a few weeks ago.
Part of the reason is Terrell getting into foul trouble early.
When Bembry got his second foul and Martelli left him in the game,
seemed a time to seek him out and try to pick up another foul.
He's really good and does so many things.
Great moment for Younkofski hitting his final shot.
Jay's signs were great.
We survived sans Johnny V.
Nice to break the St. Joe's hold on us.
The highlight for me was getting to talk to the greatest Rhody Ram
of my time, the fabulous Sly Williams. Sly seemed happy and he looks good.
Bob Terino mention how Sly began his involvement with URI basketball.
Sly was introduced to the crowd and many of us got on our feet, but some weren't.
Probably didn't know who he was.
Just a super Saturday!
