Duke shot 65% last nigt, 58% from 3 against a tough
defensive team, Wisconsin.
Tyus Jones is a freshman point guard, and he's really special.
Okafor-Kaminsky was interesting. Both great players.
Kaminsky has amazing range, but did n't have his best night.
Okafor is an old school back to the basket center, who also didn't have a
great night, and had foul trouble guarding Kaminsky.
Fun game to watch.
Iowa had a horrid shooting night and still beat UNC at the Dean Dome.
Bembry blocked a potential game tying shot against Temple in
St,Joe's win.

If USM puts in threes like they did last night, it will be a challenge for the Rams to overcome. On the road, URI has to avoid starts like the Kansas game. They also have to avoid seven minute scoring droughts they experienced in the GT game.

Not much action this Thursday evening.

Only one game in the A-10:

George Washington hosts winless UMBC in a game that should be breeze for the Colonials.

No games involving URI OOC opponents.

Elsewhere, LSU at #16 West Virginia. After a thumping win over UMass in Baton Rogue, it will be interesting to see how the Tigers fare on the road against a ranked team.

TP, I agree they aren't good. They aren't as good as GT.

BUT, there's a difference. The So.Miss game is on their home floor. The GT game was on a neutral court.

If we don't play well, we could lose. If we repeat the GT effort, it's possible.

I doubt we'll play as badly as we did last game. I'm hoping anyway.

The "young team" excuse is wearing away rapidly. Time to show some real improvement on the offensive end. Start to push the ball. Turnovers will still happen. Still would make a positive difference imo.

As for Duke, they are at the present time the only threat to Kentucky winning the national title. They shoot lights out. At our best, we are light years behind that group.

Anything can happen obviously. There are 100 clichés about that. But we have superior talent at every position and should be able to overwhelm Southern Miss whether the game is played in the deep south or on the moon. GT may not be a great team but they have power-5 caliber players on their roster at least. Not so for Southern Miss. Will be one of the few games this year that we can totally enforce our will on a team.

If we're athletically superior, let's get this up tempo style started right now. It's a mindset. If we're going to be that type of team, no better time to start than this Saturday.

Agree 100%. Short of them going like 11-20 from three or something, this should be a double digit win.

A loss on Saturday and this board will be on full meltdown.

Any road win is a good win, and this team needs to win Saturday. Not only win, but clean up the mistakes that have plagued us in our first few games.

Honestly I hope ATP "accidentally" shuts the site down and blames it on a server error for two days if we lose Saturday. With how negative this place got after Georgia Tech I can't imagine what a loss to Southern Mississippi will do.

Another week of practice after that 3game in 4 days tilt has to pay dividends. They got 120 minutes of competition and can coach, adjust and the players can process what just happened.

As expected George Washington handed winless UMBC its 7th loss of season. 83-60.

Overcoming 24 turnovers and a early second half 14 point deficit, LSU upset #16 West Virginia, 74-73 on a lay-up with 7 seconds remaining. The Tigers out rebounded the Mountaineers and showed all around superior shooting for the game. Jonathan Holton started for the West Virginia, played 32 minutes had 11 rebounds, but a bad shooting night as he scored 4 points and missed all four 3 point attempts.

Southern Mississippi Game related:

There have been 226 Games this season in which a D1 Team played a D2 team on their home court.
226 wins against 0 losses for the D1 teams until tonight.
Drexel loses tonight on a 3 point shot with seconds remaining, at home, to D2 University of the Sciences.
Yes, University of the Sciences (UOS), a school located blocks away from Drexel with an undergrad enrollment of 1700.

and to think Drexel ran all over Southern Miss at home.

Will be a tough message board if we lose to Southern Miss

PC favored by 2.5 points at BC - fans on their board thought this was a gift as they expected to easily beat BC

Henton with 1-8 shooting, 3 rebounds and only 3 points against Kentucky was viewed as a fluke and tough defense by Cauley-Stein on Henton
Tonight Henton goes 4-16 shooting, 5 rebounds and only 9 points in a 69-60 loss to Boston College. Break out games for Dunn and Derosiers but no help from anyone else.

Disagree Rambone, Derosiers has his best game as a Friar scoring 15 points. But it was Dunn and Derosiers only. Cartwright, Henton and Harris all with disappointing efforts. Only 5 total points from their bench.

I don't think PC losing is good for us, nor am I confident in the odds that Henton puts forth three stinkers in a row. We will need a good effort to beat the Fabulous Friars.

Harris worries me as much as Henton. One of them will go off on us, count on it.

They're at home. That's worth a few points at least.

I think we have a chance, as long as we move the ball and get some easy baskets. Otherwise, no bueno.

Just talked to a friend who's a big UConn fan, who said UConn's offense belongs back when the dinosaurs roamed the earth, they were that bad.

Misery loves company right now. Let's just hope we can be as good as UConn will be in March!

Sounds quite a bit like our situation. Small road favorite against what's perceived as a lesser team. Going on the road no matter who it is always provides a challenge. This is our first true road game. This board for some sounds a lot like that in regards to the line and how it seems too good to be true. Just thought I'd throw out the similarities in the situations. Also, maybe looking forward to next Wednesday too.

We shouldn't be looking forward at all, after the last game.

Focus on the game at hand. Prepare for PC when they get back.

Lose tomorrow night, and it will be a worse loss than GT.

If we come out flat, I will be one pissed off dude. They need to bring it from the opening tip. Feed off each other, there won't be any home folks there to cheer us on.

Again, if we lose, Mt. St. Helens will seem like a popped zit in comparison to the eruption on this board later tomorrow night.

What counts is the team's mental state. Play with intensity for 40 minutes, not 30 or 20...

Do that, and TP will be right. We'll win the game by daylight.

TP, I'm in the same mindset as you, as should most of this board. Just found it funny we're kind of in the same boat as PC was tonight in terms of spread and fan perception. We should beat this team by a comfortable margin. Key word is "should". Bring the intensity from the opening tip and we'll be fine.

Kansas came back from 17 down in the second half to beat Florida easily. Florida is now 3-4, which is remarkable. They will clean up in the SEC and go to the tourney, but I wonder the last time they had a losing record this far into the season? Must have been pre- Billy Donovan.

For the record, wrapping up Friday night action:

Over the next three games, Duquesne plays the most difficult part of their puny OOC schedule and in the first game the Dukes fell to a unheralded Pittsburgh team, 76-62. Duquesne trailed the entire game.

Proving life on the road can be treacherous, PC lost its second straight game, this time to a BC team not expected to do much in the ACC, 69-60.

In the SEC/Big 12 Challenge:

After trailing most of the first half, #1 Kentucky took over to beat #6 Texas, 63-51.

Kansas came from 18 points down to beat Florida, 71-65.

#22 Oklahoma in a easy win over Missouri, 82-63.

My hatred for PC is second to none. I had no problem rooting for North Carolina in the tournament last year. But as a matter of self interest we should want all of Rhode Island (and to some extent national CBB people to the extent they are relevant) to think they are REALLY good. So if we win it looks great and if we lose it doesn't look bad. After our game I don't care what happens to them.

I think BC will be a lot better than people think this year. Not NCAA worthy but there are some decent pieces on that team. Hanlan might be the best player in New England. He has just played on god awful teams. I watched a lot of the game switching from UK/Texas. Hanlan was a beast. They did a nice job defending Henton. Hardly any easy looks. And, Christian brought in a few fifth year guys. The announcers said they still are missing a few guys due to injury so I could see them being an NIT type team.

BC has been a thorn in the side of PC as evidenced by the Friars struggles vs the Eagles in recent years, especially at Conte, URI however has won the last three games versus BC, even with two of them at Chestnut Hill. Rhody actually has an overall winning record at Conte since it opened in 1988 going 3-2.
