I love Coach K.
But right now I love A10 Saint Louis beating ACC North Carolina State just a little bit more.

Re: A-10. 2-1 WhoWantsNext?!!
St. Joe's deserved to win. Kanicevic's fifth foul was bad call, but St. Joe's also bungled its last possession in regulation. Brima's never made a shot like he made at the end of the game in his life and then hit the free throw and he's a terrible foul shooter. This one hurts because UConn fans really disrespected St. Joe's back in 2004 when they ran the table in the regular season, talking a lot of smack about how they didn't deserve a number one seed because they play in the A10. A St. Joe's win would've been sweet justice for UConn fans, but it was not to be.

Re: A-10. 2-1 WhoWantsNext?!!
A-10 already has 8 NCAA units. That equates to about 12 million dollars (1.5m/unit) to be paid out over 6 years to the league. Every win is another unit. Keep it up.
Especially gratifying to see the A-10 knock out an ACC team, especially the one that Coach K was saying was better than A-10 teams. I guess he didn't have a clue.

Now all I want to see, other than A10 teams advancing, is UConn and PC to lose.
Then it's all fun from there.

And they shot 12-26 from the FT line. And still won, because NCST shot 9-21 from the line in the last 5 MINUTES.

Agreed. Ohio State fans need to suck it up. They have virtually every advantage over any other team as far as resources and potential to be a great hoop program... but they love football more.

The A-10 has already knocked out Big Ten and ACC teams from the tournament. Not a bad start. Just one more win by the league would equal the seed forecast for the entire tourney.

The AAC has looked a little shaky too.
One of their teams is gone [Cincy], UConn should have been gone, and mighty Louisville was close.

John Calipari's record as the only UMass coach to ever win an NCAA Tournament game remains intact and looks like it may last for several more years based on Kellogg's coaching performance today.

VCU has to be joking. How can you lose a game when you are up 4 with 10 seconds left and heading to the line for 2 shots. That is game over. Idiots. I've never seen anything like that.

Absolute disaster.
Then to not even come back in overtime.
Horrible against a team like that.
Shaka smart and coach k can sit next to one another in the final 4.

Massive choke, among the worst I've ever seen. You miss 2 FT's, make one, game over, even with the bad call on the 3.
We've had a few bad losses in the NCAA tourney, but nothing this bad.
They will have nightmares about this one for years.
85, I don't think it will make any difference. VCU imo was going to lose next round anyway.
Dayton might have a shot against Syracuse if they play well.

The bottom line is, unless they're making baskets on turnovers,
VCU is not much of an offensive team.
They die in the half court. They rotate so many players,
you can't have any offensive cohesion.
Graham and Burgess were the only guys who looked comfortable in the halfcourt offense.

Agree with that Rod - their system is flawed in that sense. You need to be able to execute in transition and half court sets.

Agree with all but the bold. SFA was highly thought of by a lot of sharks. In fact, this game was one of the more popular upset picks, even though we never thought if it like that here because of the A10 thing. Lots of people around the country were more thrilled watching that than we were disgusted.ramster wrote:Absolute disaster.

I don't care what happened, VCU got screwed on that call. Should have been up 1, 2 free throws, 3 seconds left. SFU has to go full court against Havoc and take a likely contested tough shot.

Yeah, it was bullshit.
You can't call what you THOUGHT you saw. It has to be obvious to be called in that spot.
Still, a massive gag job. VCU should have made a free throw. Again, we should know.

The GW-Memphis game was a 5 point game, with
Creek having a 3 point airball, which would have tied it.
GW fouled and Memphis made two free throws.
The only team that got killed was UMass

UMass is the only team that played like they did not belong. I think we got tough draws in UConn and Memphis because those teams are trying to build their new league. Big chip on their shoulders.

Re: A-10. 2-4 WhoWantsNext?!!??
UMass this year....reminds me of the year we blew a bid by losing to them and St. Bonnies...
The difference between them and us was Chaz. Otherwise, same undisciplined style of play, same poor X's and O's coach.
Same late collapse, except they had done enough already in spite of that.
Law, UConn was beaten. They got lucky. That and tonight's giveaway by VCU is the difference between a VERY successful tournament for the A10, and a not so successful one.
5 close games that could have gone either way, against teams about the same level. At least, the A10 has proven it belongs.
We just didn't have those one or two GREAT teams this year. VCU might get there next year. GW might too. It's up to us to join them, and soon.

Re: A-10. 2-4 WhoWantsNext?!!??
VCU missed 4 Free Throws in the last 33 seconds and they gave up a 4 point play on defense. That's a bad 33 seconds.
For the A10 now VCU, St Joseph's, UMASS and GW all gone in first round games.
Survivors are Saint Louis with the 4th highest RPI of the 6 A10 Teams - who barely survived
Dayton survives while being the lowest RPI of the 6 A10 Teams
Both are coveted by the NBE
Judging how disasterous the NBE is performing with TV ratings not near expectations, not a good year for NCAA Selection, now Buzz leaves town for VaTech...................now would be a good time for the NBA to raid the A10. Waiting another year or two would not help the NBE in fact the NBE is going to more and more look like a mid major. The gap between the NBE and the A10 is going to shrink more and more to the point that the NBE is simply another mid major conference if they are not there already.
In the future VCU, Dayton, SLU, etc may look to simply remain in the A10 or they may look to bolt to other more coveted conferences than the NBE. Used to be that the NBE was looked at as the holy grail - not anymore.
So the NBE should strike now,,,,,or do they continue to strike out.

Re: A-10. 2-4 WhoWantsNext?!!??
Fox will call the shots as to whether they expand or not.
Not happening for next season. Maybe in 2-3 years.
That contract imo will have to be redone. Ratings just don't support that type of money. I find it hard to believe, that the contract was written to be fully guaranteed.
If Fox did that, it was a stupid move on their part.
The A10, however, better get on with trying to upgrade their TV contracts, to where each member gets close to 1 mil a year. If they do that, there will be less chance of anyone bolting to the NBE.

Bad 2nd day for the A-10 at 0-3. That VCU loss was tough. A 4pt play in the last seconds to send it to OT? That should never happen.

One thing I won't miss about VCU being eliminated is hearing about 'havoc' and the navy seal training the whole team went through.
The announcers are practically falling all over themselves at every game to mention the week of navy seal training they went through.
Cause every other team is just sitting around drinking beer and eating pizza in the offseason....
I am very surprised at Dayton's success, I didn't think they deserved a spot in the tourney. Imagine what they too could have accomplished with a week of navy seal training.

Dayton is up against Syracuse and the refs, that was major body contact on that missed layup.
