The only sell out I've ever been to was that first game at the Ryan vs USC, where Hellenga hit the shot to win it. That's also the only time I've ever sat the in the upper deck.

Idk, back in the day, I could get pretty loud. We also used to pound a couple of screwdrivers at the Frat house before we walked to Keaney, though.

You know the ones: 98% cheap vodka with a splash of orange for color, designed to get the coeds all liquored up.

These days, glucosamine has replaced the screwdrivers, lol.

I haven't said this yet: TJ should've played more against GW. He played way better than Reischel, but Reischel got the minutes. And he had 0 rebounds!

TJ has become one of my favorites this year.
You gotta love his effort and the results he gets.
He needs to be our glue guy on this team, and get more minutes.

That game was a few thousand short of a sell out. I think it was in the 5000 range.

The Pitt game that year was the biggest crowd ever at the Ryan Center and will never reach that number again due to revised fire codes. Other sellouts include the St. Joe's game and multiple PC and UMass games. I think Dayton and Xavier for pink outs may have been sellouts as well.

Shit.

OK, this will be my first sell out.

Stay tuned for another exciting episode of 'foggy memories'.

edit

Oh, wait, I was at the Pitt game. Those might have been the only two games I attended that first season.

Just like that... I'm back.

The best game I've ever attended at the Ryan Center (and I'm certain it was a sellout) was back in the '07-08 season when we played Xavier, who I believe was top-10 in the country at the time. I made the drive up from NJ and although we lost by a few points, I'm glad I made the trip. It was the loudest crowd I've ever heard at the RC...just an incredible atmosphere from start to finish. If I recall correctly, Will Daniels and Bitee both played great games, Daniels especially from the 3-point line. That's the type of environment I'm hoping to see on Thursday. Don't want to make the drive up for nothing!

Best games for me at the RC in order pc game in 2009, vs #1 St. Joes in 2004, and the BC game a few years back which if I'm not mistaken was sold out and then some. We won by one point and I got in a huge argument with a BC fan (back when the mob or ruckus was behind the away bench like it should be)

I had also thought URI vs. USC was a sellout, because I had to buy tickets despite being a freshman - the student allotment was out. I also got seats in the 300s. However, you're right - The listed attendance was 5,785. That's the number that's on the USC website: http://www.usctrojans.com/sports/m-bask ... l#TEAM.IND (Google brought me there as opposed to URI; I'm not sure if their online box scores offered go back that far.)

I remember when someone threw a wife beater at PC's McGrath? did that happen? I think so.

Also the Del's vender getting kicked out by Martelli.

I love the RC, doesn't matter to me, always happy to be there.

TJ is my favorite guy. No drama, does everything his best. Obviously works hard and gets results.

Drama mention is not a dig on anyone. More the program. We have had a dramatic past few years with coaches and recruits and players.

Was it the Cumby's OJ that is really more like "orange drink" than it is actual juice from a fruit?

that's the one. It was no name brand concentrate OJ.

You have to shake vigorously just to get it to even resemble juice. I think that concept was lost on the guy making them up. They just wanted to turn the vodka orange.

Thought I would post a ranking comparison of URI/PC stats based on D1 results:

Points Per Game - URI -240th PC - 208th
Rebounds per game - URI - 138th PC - 132nd
Assists per Game - URI - 286th PC - 167th
Field Goal % - URI - 231st PC - 318th

In looking at this, the item that jumps out at me is the FG %. We need to be really aggresive on the defensive boards.

I haven't checked the stats to back this up, but I get the sense just by watching these games that offensive rebounding is something we have struggled on. If we can capitalize on this and have a good shooting night we can compete. Also, we need this 'Ruckus' to be a factor.

I haven't checked the stats either but based on what I've seen so far they've had plenty of chances for offensive rebounds cause they miss so many finishes around the rim and they even get the offensive board and miss out on getting the second chance points. I'd like someone to tell me why this team misses so many finishes around the rim??

In the all important Assist to Turnover Ratio:

3 Point Shooting percentage URI ranked #313 at only 28.4% as a team

Hurley said the team has been working this week on taking care of the ball. They can't beat PC if they continue to turn the ball over. i was surprised on how close some of the other stats are.

I would love for the "Ruckus" to be a factor. Last year for big games like VCU, we had a huge student turnout actually cheering and making noise. They are giving out 1500 T-Shirts to students all with a pledge attached to them saying, "by putting on this t-shit I pledge to cheer, make noise etc". I think there will be a good student presence there, but the noise and cheering will only come if the game is close.

Another interesting Stat that could make a difference is Free Throw Shooting

PC is ranked #2 in the Country
179-219 for 81.7%

URI is ranked #192
168-244 for 68.9%

We need to replicate the free throw shooting from the McNeese State game making 22-of-24 free throw attempts (91.7 percent), including 16-for-17 in the second half.

When I dropped my son off at his dorm Sunday night the ten or so kids in his suite seemed pretty excited about Thursday's game.

First of all, bushes don't crash. Putting that aside, for the 1,000,000th time nobody wants anyone to die. Not every crash is a deadly one. Just want them to be late and inconvenienced.

our TO numbers are atrocious. have to stay in the 10-12 range against PC to stay in it.

i do think our team will come out tight on Thurs, given none of them have ever played in front of a packed Ryan Center. Could easily see everyone trying to be a hero in the opening minutes. PC hasnt played a true road game either so that could help, but their experience and especially Cotton's leadership will likely offset that.

I think keeping the turnovers under 12 should be a goal regardless. Difficult to win when you give the other guy more opportunities, especially more that are potentially layups and such. O rebounds and turnovers can doom a team if you give up too many obviously.

I just watched the first half of that URI @ Arizona game again. Just to freak myself out a little bit.

Granted, they played much better in the second half, but the first half was a shit storm.

A bunch of guys not playing as a team. Sloppiness everywhere, lazy passes to guys who aren't even looking, matador D. Martin in particular, they need to hide him with the zone, he cannot play man to man D. Before Aaman went to the hospital at halftime, when they were in 2-3 zone, he would be the center and the offense would bait him to cheat up in the paint then they would go right underneath him. Biruta taking lazy swats at guys who already got by him and were up in the air with the layup, to give himself the foul and them the three point play.

That was just one game, but when they play full speed, they play sloppy and out of control. In the second half, they were not slow, but slower and more deliberate with what they were doing. They are too careless with the ball when they play fast. They tend to look like five guys that just met in the parking lot for a pickup game.

They need to play more like a team and less like a bunch of guys trying to compete with each other for playing time. Learn to slow things up and eat the clock at different intervals during the game. During the second half vs George Mason, when they were pressured, it turned into streetball and they were sprinting up and down the court like madmen with very little efficiency. They need to learn when they are hassled or hurried they need to pull it together, regroup, and deliberately eat the clock. Hurley needs to call a quick time out when he sees them revert to that, grab them by the ear, and reset them.

As identified by many others, their turnover ratio needs to come down bigtime if they are going to do anything of merit this season, including staying competitive vs Providence tomorrow.
