Re: Game 19: @ George Washington - TODAY, 3pm RaiseHigh.tv
Interesting comments from Bill Koch re the GW loss and the other recent road losses in today's Pick and Pop Podcast. He said the Rams do foul because of their aggressive play, but if they could cut out the tacky tack fouls e.g. illegal screens, hand checks, they would see benefits. They have to play smarter all around.
Koch also said that each of the last three road games had legitimate home crowds and an atmosphere that is not present at the Ryan Center whose atmosphere he described "as placid, dull, half full arena and the fans that are present are not intimidating at all". All of this has an influence on the officiating and he said studies have confirmed that aspect.

Re: Game 19: @ George Washington - TODAY, 3pm RaiseHigh.tv
Right now, who's confident about any game?
Even at home? If it's close, it's a scary game.
This team is rapidly approaching last call for this season.
If they win their next 5, then everyone will be psyched for the Dayton game.
It's human nature.
Can only look at one game at a time, though.
Dan says we'll be better by the end of the season. What does he see that supports that belief?
What do we see? Are we all of a sudden going to start making shots and FT's when it counts?
Even at home? If it's going to start, it has to start NOW.
Good luck.

At least we've been winning at home lately, even without much help from the refs.
But Rod is right. Who is going to come when we keep losing games we should win?
That's always been the case with this program, like it or not.
Even Dan has to realize that by now.
Plus, who have we played at home so far this year? Underwhelming opponents to say the least, except for the Valpo and PC games.
Which we lost. We might have won those if we had EC. But we didn't. Bottom line, that kills interest in the program, right from the get go.

Koch is right about the fouls.
Too many dumb fouls. It's been a problem for quite a while.
Again, you would think these players would have been taught how to play good defense without fouling.
A lot of other teams and/or coaches have figured it out.
So, again, do we have dumb players, or is the coaching to blame? Hmmmm?
Either way, it's just another problem.

brady, even Giants fans know the Pats have probably been the best of the last decade, maybe two... you gotta let those two SB losses go, though. Carrying around that bitterness isn't good for you...

Really have no idea.
SmokinJimmiT actually knows who he is,
but unless we waterboard him,
he's not saying.
Gandy was odd, but he was a character, for sure.
He once mailed me some wonderful 8X10 glossys that
he took of our 1998 team.
He claimed he hated Harrick, but when I saw those pictures,
I figured he hated that Harrick left, like many of us did.

I remember one of the guys on the Projo board said
Cindy Baron swore at him for yelling some
thing about CFL.
In retrospect the real erosion of fans away from CFL,
only came in that last dreadful season.
I used to say, some of our fans only wanted a warm
place to go in the winter, where the toilets flushed.
Winning was secondary.

I remember when Gandy left he basically said he was only here to trash on Baron so he was bailing now that he was gone. Or something to that effect.

Re: Game 19: @ George Washington - TODAY, 3pm RaiseHigh.tv
CFL was emBARONSing
After the URI game at Quinnipiac (last season?).. I waited for CFL to come out of the locker room to do radio post game ... There was the chooch.. Walking diagonally across the court to the radio press table.. About 50 ppl left inside the arena.. I was so infuriated after watching his "offense" where they all stood outside the 3 point arc w/ their hand up "I'm open.. I'm open.."..
So, as he walked across the court I give him the Bronx cheer "hey baron.. Great offense..".. Then slowly clapped
That made me feel better as my Sicilian blood was boiling over at the time !

How about how Baron was much better in two possession games than Hurley has been?
That was a very interesting stat Koch looked up. Pretty shocking.

Word really. John Q Casual RI fan sees us as lost to PC they are no good. I guess you need to know the history and have lived in this "think little" state to get it?
We lose at the buzzer and now they are in the top 10?
Beyond painful.... I hope some students show up tomorrow nite because the bandwagon is empty.

I'll keep mine for next year.
If things don't improve then, I'll save the money
and spend it on my granddaughters.
The idea that fans should just show up, because (????)
is absurd.
Just win, baby!

Re: Game 19: @ George Washington - TODAY, 3pm RaiseHigh.tv
very funny that it is true there were posters that their sole purpose was to oust Baron.
Everyone here knows you win and fill the seats.
Odd to me is that the media is talking about home court advantage when home court is the only place that URI wins. I think it is being peddled because of the tougher teams that are coming in. They know they have to hold home court in order to have a shot. Probably a larger monetary/statistical component to it also.
Just getting into the top 5 in the A10 standings will draw 5k+, there are people that pay some attention to some Rhody round ball.

I admit CFL II is silly and maybe harsh. Things just feel stagnate and meandering. As for being a PC fan, no. I'd say it if it was true. Last PC game I saw (not against URI) was because I wanted to see Chris Mullin play. So it's been a while. Don't let the facts ...

Rod is right. Attendance has always depended on winning. People get misty eyed about the great 1998-99 season. But not every game in Keaney sold out that season. How do you guys feel? I feel like Keaney with 3,200 was more of a home court advantage than the RC with 4,000. When the RC's had big crowds, it's a huge plus. But Koch is right 4,000 people sitting on their hands doesn't help much.
Of course they get crazy for the t shirt catapult. Then back to sleep.

I like Bill a lot, but I don't understand his tireless talking about the crowds in Kingston. If the team wins, the fans will show up. If they don't, they won't. This is not hard to grasp.Obadiah wrote:Interesting comments from Bill Koch re the GW loss and the other recent road losses in today's Pick and Pop Podcast. Re: Game 19: @ George Washington
Just thinking about this more, what the hell is even his point? URI is 11-1 at home and it's only loss was the only game the building was banged out! He's talking like the lack of a huge crowd diminishes the home court advantage, but that hasn't manifested itself in the record. Attendance matters for money and recruiting and buzz and all that, but it hasn't impacted the record which was his point on the pod.

St Joe's had less attendance for our game than our average attendance. Is he suggesting we move back to Keaney to get that packed atmosphere? Weird.
