Re: 2015-16 Schedule Discussion
Going back to HC for a second, we played them in the ECAC new england tournament back in 79? Did not win very convincingly in that game, which lead to the loss to uconn and Corny Thompson for the right to go to the dance.

Re: 2015-16 Schedule Discussion
I actually would not mind a home and home against HC as long as the return game is at DCU. I have always thought it was a little hypocritical to expect power 5 teams to play us home and home and not do the same with programs in lesser conferences. Also, I think in this crazy restructured leagues that all New England teams would do themselves a favor by making the northeast the hotbed of college ball once again by recreating rivalries that have been allowed to die off at the expense of chasing conference money.

Under penalty of "death" from a very reliable source, I can tell you only that the rams have scheduled another home game for the upcoming season. In my opinion, it is a very good one. Sorry for being so clandestine, but when it comes out, the board should be very pleased.

Re: 2015-16 Schedule Discussion
Here are the 2015 NCAA teams as listed by seed. I would think the top seeds (say 1-4) are out of the question since they would likely never come to Kingston. The highest seeds are the conference auto bid qualifiers and most wouldn't exactly excite the URI fan base. That would mean it is some team in the mid range. I would further guess it is a better probability it is not a Power-5 team. This pool would include teams such as Northern Iowa, Butler, SMU, Xavier, Wichita St, Cincinnati, San Diego St, St. John's, Boise St, BYU, Buffalo, Wyoming, Harvard, UAB, Belmont, New Mexico St, or Manhattan.

Texas was my next guess and also thought about the Wyoming Cowboys - going with the rope themetheblueram wrote:Maybe Shaka already misses the A10 and is bring Texas in???
Also reviewing RF1's list the Southern Methodist Mustangs could fit the bill. In fact if I was a betting man I would bet its SMU coming to Kingston.

Some Holy Cross fans on their messageboard are now disputing the initial notion that this game is to be part of an even home and home series. This might make more sense as URI has only played the Crusaders twice since 1982 and both were buy games at the Ryan Center.

My guess is SF Austin. They are having some scheduling difficulties, or were as of a month or so ago. Actually I'm pretty confident that its the lumberjacks

Re: 2015-16 Schedule Discussion
Correct me if I'm wrong here, but I doubt Haaahvaaaahd or SFA would rise to the level of needing to be sworn to secrecy. The same goes for SMU who just played here two years ago. You would swear someone to secrecy if the announcement of said game/team would be used, let's say, as part of a press release to announce season ticket sales or something like that.

Here are the clues or possible leads from Neil:
Under penalty of "death"
In my opinion, it is a very good one.
when it comes out, the board should be very pleased.
Do Harvard and SF Austin fulfill these hints?
I think it might be Oklahoma State, Texas or SMU.

Xavier also makes a lot of sense, with them being ex. A10 and Murray's connection. I wouldn't mind an SF Austin game but at the same time I'd prefer a higher team like xavier

Re: 2015-16 Schedule Discussion
Knowing nothing about this - if I were to venture a guess it would be Georgetown, Harvard, Utah, Texas or Xavier.
Can't see some of those other teams mentioned as the "sworn to secrecy" level - specifically because they aren't traditional powerhouses that would require big time deals/agreements to get them. If it's this big of a deal not to leak, it's a big enough team.
Neil knows the game and this board and to say that it's a "very good one" and that the board would be "very pleased." I think those 5 make the most sense.
G'town - has a David Cox connection thanks to his time there as an assistant.
Harvard - has numerous ties to the staff, is local, and wouldn't be a complicated deal to work out.
Utah - there were rumors floating around last year of a 15 year reunion type game? Who knows...just something fun to talk about.
Texas - shaka/A10 connection
Xavier - murray/A10 connection

Re: 2015-16 Schedule Discussion
Neil said "in my opinion" its a very good one, so that preface indicates to me that it is not a blue blood type program, eliminating a Georgetown type which in anyone's opinion would be a coup to get in the RC for a game. To me its someone with a marginally high profile, that perhaps Joe Public wouldnt do jumping jacks about but a real college hoops fan would appreciate...someone like Cincinnati possibly? Even Xavier to me is a no-brainer great opponent to bring in and wouldn't warrant the "in my opinion" caveat.
In terms of the secrecy somehow being linked to the quality of the team - I dont buy that. As TP said maybe the deal isnt done yet and the source doesnt want it getting out bc the source will be outed in the process. Many people here get tips and are told to keep it off the board, not because its the biggest scoop since who shot Kennedy, but just bc its not public knowledge. You wont keep many sources if you post everything you hear on this board. I respect Neil's position and will patiently wait for the announcement.

No big east team would ever travel to play a mid-major team at the Ryan Center.....that is beneath them......providence only comes because they have to or they would be shamed.....they would love to have this game every year at the DDC......so xavier and georgetown are eliminated....

Cincinnati has already announced its 13 game non conference schedule. This is the maximum number of games allowed as the AAC has an 18 game conference schedule.

We lost. It was in the midst of several losses when Preston
was hurt, and we had no point guard at all.

We actually scheduled pretty well for the OOC during the 90's at the PCC. We hosted Arizona, Texas, Cincinnati, Cal, Wisconsin. Wake Forest, Minnesota, UNLV, and Tulsa. I think it being 25+ miles off campus made it somewhat more palatable to OOC opponents.rodfromcranston wrote:Kal-65 is right. We did play Wisconsin at the PCC in
