My guess is his mind is already made up and has been for some time. Much more to this than money.
I forgot, but just added to the list, that Bob Driscoll retired from PC recently. Long term AD who Cooley had great respect for.

Is this a pre-emptive penalty by the school because they strongly suspect they were hiring a tool ?

Don’t have the time to read this but what is the overall feeling there ??ramster wrote: ↑1 year ago PC Board up to 29 pages on Cooley now
Certainly brings more interest to the PC vs Kentucky upcoming NCAA game.

So are we still in the “Zero chance. zero” or have we advanced to at least 1%?

So the Cooley/Georgetown update is clear:
If there has been communication, Coach isn’t confirming.
There is zero doubt GTown will elevate contact once PC season ends.
GTown has not -and probably will not- informed PC brass of contact.
This IS a distraction to players/fans.

Re: 2023 Coaching Carousel
I’ll say 1 thing- if Iona and PC both lose on Friday then Saturday is going to be a rollercoaster of a day for fans of St John’s, PC and Georgetown.
Another nugget I’d add, if I’m a higher up in the BE I want him to go. The demise of the Georgetown and St John’s brand in huge markets is 1 of the few blemishes on the league in its new form. A great Georgetown program is better for the league than a really good PC program. Just saying.

Re: 2023 Coaching Carousel
Agree. You look at the BE standings and see DePaul at the bottom is one thing, but to see Georgetown at the bottom is altogether different. Just seems wrong. Huge opportunity for Georgetown and St Johns right now.
Also BAR, imagine all this going on with the NCAA Tournament in the prime time spotlight.

Either this is the greatest wartime diversionary tactic since WW2 to deflect attention from his players onto himself at a most critical time.
Or he’s allowing a massive distraction to hover over this team that could affect their performance.
Why would he do this if he was definitely coming back? Does he not want to beat Kentucky? The longer it’s not addressed the more real it becomes.

Re: 2023 Coaching Carousel
This is wayyy different than the Michigan situation. There isn’t even confirmation Michigan offered him - whereas we know in this case he is going to be GUs first choice. Also way more noise around this one and I don’t recall timing on UM but don’t remember it being a distraction before their tourney game like this situation. It’s not trending towards this being a negotiating tactic even if he ultimately decides to stay.Rhody15 wrote: ↑1 year agoI will stick to my guns and still say it’s all smoke, similar to the Michigan gig where he got more money/program enhancements.bigappleram wrote: ↑1 year ago So are we still in the “Zero chance. zero” or have we advanced to at least 1%?

Not really, URI to UConn is much different than PC to Georgetown, especially now.
I will still be surprised if somethings comes of it.

You missed my point. uconn was in contact with DH long before the season ended. I think it's the same here. Also, URI faded that year just like pc.

If Cooley goes I have no doubt Pitino will return to Providence.

St John’s maybe a tad, but they have talent.
GT is the major rebuild.

St. John’s would be a rebuild for Pitino.
It seems like one of Georgetown, St. John’s, or Providence will be left out or at least not getting/keeping their first choice. If Cooley stays and Pitino goes to St. John’s, does Georgetown go with Shrewsberry?

So many scenarios Ace. Any of the 3 could end up not securing their top target pending how things plays out. If PC or Iona win that first game it throws everything sideways.

Shrewsberry stock definitely appears on the rise , has a nice pedigree assistant to Brad Stevens with Butler and the Celtics and also was an assistant under Matt Painter , he will be on a lot of listsbigappleram wrote: ↑1 year agoSo many scenarios Ace. While I agree most big east schools would be a step down from most B1G schools Penn State has never been a power in hoops and isn’t as prestigious as Georgetown.Rhode_Island_Red wrote: ↑1 year agoGeorgetown and the Bigheaded East would be a step down from Penn State and the Big 10.

Of course that all changed once St. John's got in the picture.
Hurley was the obvious choice for UConn all along.

Re: 2023 Coaching Carousel
My thoughts:
Pitino to St. Johns
Cooley stay put at PC.
If Shrewsberry goes to Georgetown (not so sure of that), his son decommits from PSU and follows his dad.
Agin if the PSU job opens up look for Mike Brey's name to be mentioned.
Let me also add, that if Wichita State doesn't call Turgeon they are crazy.
He had success there and took them to the Sweet16, before bolting for Texas A&M

Supposedly Turgeon is in the mix at Wichita St.
Shrewsberry could be more in play at Notre Dame vs Georgetown.
Indiana roots and has already spent time in South Bend.
