While I'm on the topic of past Rams...Akeem Richmond is leading an ECU rally vs. Duke right now on ESPNU. Erased a 17 pt deficit to 6.

Billy's all they got. He's good though. He would have helped us, but that's old news, just as well.

Wait until next year, they are going to be BAD..........Baron's poor recruiting ability will come home to roost.

Imo he'll be out of coaching for good after he's canned there.

Akeem...Jimmy Jr. the second....haha giving Coach K fits again.....

Seriously, East Carolina isn't bad. Would they play at Ryan?

Not to derail this thread but after his freshman year I thought Akeem was going to be special. His soph year was a train wreck though. Glad he's in a good place.

Totally agree on freshman v. sophomore year perception. He was exposed though, couldn't create his own shot.

I think family issues helped derail that season. His head wasn't into the games.

He's strictly a shooter, though. Come to think of it, we could use a shooter.......hah

The thing is that almost every D1 team could say the same thing. It's just the way it is these days especially when there is a coaching change. Still, it's 100% a tourney team if everyone stayed for Hurley.

Adding to Akeem, Cain, and Baron as seniors, Holton as a junior to the three freshmen. Maybe X doesn't come but Gil/Biggie/Reischel would fit in nicely. That's a gooooooooood team if they had their heads on straight which, obviously is a 1 in 1,000 deal.

were here, or whatever.
It's like wishing some lousy past girl friend was still around.
"Ohhh! I wish she were still here."
Someone posted a list of Baron's players they wish we still had.
Sure, why not wish for the '78, '88 or'98 team to come back, while we're at it.

Jut to be clear Rod, I am only noting "where are they now" just because that is the title of the thread.
I never cared for Cain, Akeem or Shengalia. I saw Shengalia play at the National Prep Tournament when he was playing up in Maine. Never understood taking him - he could not jump in prep school and still couldn't jump when he got to URI. Unfortunately he had a bad injury but he ws not upper A10 material. Cain played us - then ran into problems and ended up transferring to UNC Greensboro.
I never cared for Akeem - never saw a supposed 3 point marksman throw up so many bricks, and even airballs.
I liked Billy in High School, would have been a good player for URI, but best for all that he went to Canisius, and i don't think he is an upper A10 PG - not there with guards from VCU or Saint Louis - was nt good enough for Virginia but a very nice PG for the league he is in for sure.

Wasn't referring to you, Ramster.
I understand the thread, it's just, even in the Ariziona game thread,
someone wrote nostalgically about which of CFL's players he wishes were here.
Then the Holton stuff. The Billy stuff.
Hell, I wish we had those guys, too, but it's water under the bridge.
Akeem only shoots, and doesn't do anything else.
Speaking of players we liked, Dustin Helenga is living in Springfield, Ohio,
and hasn't changed a bit.

Hard to say. He's been quite visible but reluctant to have pics/videos made of him - at least initially.

It sure would. Be great to give him a great ovation so he knows he is welcome to come back any time.

Had the opportunity to meet and speak briefly with Lamar yesterday after the game. He seemed relaxed and enjoying the fact that most RI people who would come to say hello remember him for his on-court achievements rather than the shit show he's unfortunately gotten involved with with the Kardashians.

I told him that it was great to have him back "home" and wished we had a packed house to give him and his teammates a proper ovation. He brushed that off and essentially said "no, it's alright". He was kind enough to sign the little soft RI Athletics ball that my son plays basketball with in his room.

After that, wished him well and asked that he continue to visit us whenever he could.

Sure hope he can settle everything and get back to basketball and a less complicated lifestyle.

Keep in mind Notre Dame lost arguably their best player, Jerian Grant, due to academic problems. I believe the game against Canisius was their first game without him. I don't see them beating many teams in the ACC this year, other than BC.

You haven't watched a lot of ACC hoops this season. There are some other possible ACC wins out there other than just BC. The bottom half of the ACC has some pretty eye-popping losses in the OOC schedule this year:

South Carolina-Upstate 64 Virginia Tech 63
Virginia 72 Green Bay 75
North Carolina Central 82 North Carolina State 72
Indiana State 83 Notre Dame 70
Belmont 83 North Carolina 80
North Dakota State 73 Notre Dame 69
North Carolina-Greensboro 55 Virginia Tech 52
Boston University 83 Maryland 77
Saint Francis (NY) 66 Miami (Fla.) 62

Holton could play for WVU by next week

By Dave Hickman
FORT WORTH, Texas - It appears that Jonathan Holton could, indeed, play for West Virginia's basketball team this season. When remains a question for the NCAA.
The junior college transfer, who was ineligible to play right away because he had not completed requirements for a junior college degree, has now apparently completed those requirements. But he still needs an NCAA eligibility committee to approve his status.
All of this is according to WVU sources, who because of academic privacy issues won't speak on the record. Coach Bob Huggins, when asked about it following West Virginia's 74-69 win over TCU Saturday, would only say that he was encouraged about Holton's status.
"Very encouraged,'' he said.
WVU officials believed the NCAA might give Holton the go-ahead to play as early as Friday. In fact, Holton had a spot on the team's charter to Texas just in case, but when the NCAA did not come through he stayed in Morgantown.
It seems unlikely that even if the NCAA were to move and grant Holton eligibility on Monday that he could travel to Texas in time for Monday's game at Texas Tech. The Mountaineers, who won at TCU Saturday, were to fly to Lubbock after the game.
If the NCAA does grant Holton eligibility sometime in the coming week, his debut would likely come Saturday at home when the Mountaineers play Oklahoma State. WVU plays another home game two days later against Texas.
Holton is a 6-foot-7, 210-pound junior forward who two years ago was on the Atlantic 10 all-rookie team as a freshman at Rhode Island. He was dismissed from school there after an arrest and spent last season at a junior college in Florida.
Holton could add some much-needed frontcourt experience for a West Virginia team that is playing now mostly with true freshmen Devin Williams and Brandon Watkins in the post.
That's apparently the reason Huggins wants to play Holton, who by next weekend would have missed 15 of the team's 31 regular-season games. He would have virtually the entire Big 12 season remaining, however, as well as the league tournament and any potential postseason games.

Very good player, one man team.

One of many things he does well is shoot FT's, like his brother. He always spent a lot of time practicing them. Our players need to start doing that too. If they do, spend even more time.
