I think that's a great suggestion. The cheerleaders also do not do the fight song anymore, which obviously means the students don't do the fight song anymore either. I could be losing my mind, but I swear when I was a student ('02-'06), the cheerleaders would come out on the court during timeouts and actually lead a cheer of the fight song?

Rhody, rhody, rhody is just too short, and the only thing currently used.

I was watching a game at Utah State.
Those people do these long chants, and songs
thoughout the game.
Watch the entire MSU crowd doing the Daniel Bryan ,YES! YES! YES! chant.
Any game from south of the Mason Dixon line has active
student and crowd participation.
How about less giveaways and more things to do with the games themselves,
like getting the crowd involved in cheering.
And what was with throwing things into the stands, while our guy was shooting free throws?
Couldn't believe that!

Same here. Watched the San Diego State / Utah State game this past Saturday and some of the chants blew me away. When a guy stepped to the line for two free throws the entire place chanted "You will miss it!" You could hear it crystal clear on TV. After he missed the first, a "We were right!" chant erupted. It was awesome.

Another awesome chant - I believe it was the Michigan / Michigan St game - was when a pretty boy white guy stepped to the line and chants of "Jus-tin Bei-ber!" exploded.

I'm pretty sure that chant originally came from the Columbus Crew MLS team...most chants are copied or influenced by something already in existence....I've always thought that chant would be awesome at a URI game

We need to model ourselves after San Diego State. State school, similar in size for enrollment and arena (theres is a little bigger, but not so much that it would be a huge difference in noise level), similar conferences. Their student section is outstanding.

Last year they created events on facebook to spread the word of the game and had some of the chants for us to use pregame. If they had flyers to give out for chants it would help. My favorite was you cant do that. The cameron crazies yell at opposing players and tells them to sit when they miss a free throw.

Oldy but Goodie....

Lets go Rhody! CLAP CLAP... CLAP CLAP CLAP
[REPEAT]

When other team has ball, obviously they should default to :
DE-FENSE CLAP CLAP, DE-FENSE.CLAP CLAP.. etc (at a deliberate pace accompanied by foot stomping)

Then when shot clock approaches 10 seconds, be default you can switch to the "OOOOOOOOOOHHHHHHHHHHH" drone as you hear commonly from Cameron Crazies.

Amazingly, the original Ryan Center "fanatical fans" in section 104 did all of these from the USC game onward until around when they were renamed/reorganized as The Mob.

Mrs. Red, a Michigan State alumna, took me to the Rose Bowl. State's primary cheer is really simple: One section yells, "Go Green!" and the other yells, "Go White!" It was especially cool when coming from opposite sides of the parade route.

BTW, I also took some extra satisfaction in State's beating Stanford. Arthur Lee is still a punk, no matter how many times he apologized.

I remember doing that back in the 80s. Everyone had a "Cigar" and held it up while the opponents were announced (can't remember the opponent), and then went crazy for the Rams intro.

Another tidbit from the late 80s/early 90s. The cheerleaders were holding up signs saying "Go" and "Rams" to which the crowd would chant. At one of the time outs, the cheerleader with the "Go!" sign had it upside down. Me and my crew started yelling "Og Rams! Og Rams". The whole crowd got into it. Finally, the cheerleader looked down at her sign, realized it was upside down and started cracking up.

During the George Mason game I liked it when the students started counting down the shot clock a few seconds early. There were 2 or 3 times when it caused the GMU players to shoot an ill-advised shot while there were still 3 or 4 seconds left on the clock.

YES, same here. Sure it's the oldest trick in the book and a little corny, but it works. It can throw off the road team at least a few times every game.

The big heads are a joke. They are too dispersed and are a complete non-factor. My thought is to have them right across the baseline during opponent free throws, and when they take the shot thrust them toward the shooter. No idea if it would do anything, but surely better than what they are now.

Wasn't there a women's game going on that involved a big Pat Summit fundraiser or something? Maybe they went to that due to the charity aspect of it. Or was that a different day?

Also, I know they competed in some national competitions recently that Thorr and Hurley tweeted about. Also could have been that.

In the early 90s, I remember the cheerleaders sitting on the shoulders of male cheerleaders and reading the Good 5 Cent Cigar. We in the student section in Keaney would stand up and turn our backs to the court and start stomping the aluminum steps.

We had the 'find a noose, find a tree , hang the &$@)in referee' for bad calls. Or the classic 'Get off your knees, you're blowing the game.'

You should make chants for other teams somewhat personal without crossing the line. Like the 'Yinka' chants for Mr. Dare when GW came to town.

We started a 'Cat is Phat' after Mobley made a free throw my last year, but he got hurt early in the season, so that ended pretty quick.

Maybe if we build this GIANT ROBOT RAM. Then we all hide inside....and wait for the opposing team to drop their guard. Then FIRE and SMOKE billow out of the Rams ears, mouth and nose!!! THEN WE RUN OUT AND TAKE THEM BY SURPRISE!!!!

I also believe the hawk is dead...and can't wait for St. Joes to return to the RC so we can redeem ourselves just like we did vs G. Mason.

When the opposing team fouls out, Harding University escorts the player to their seat. They apparently yell "sit down" when the player does, but this guy never sat during this video. EDIT: Apparently, a bunch of schools do this. I'd never seen it before. Still pretty funny regardless.
