Guys. Maybe the most painful season ever, considering how excited we were a few months ago. Heck I picked this year to carry the Rams on my radio station...
Thank God we have each other so that my family doesn't have to listen to me all season. I feel your pain.

Yes he did
Like I said an hour ago - I would have sat 4 when he shot that long 3 in 1st half

People scoffed last week when I said I did not to play UMass. We don't deserve another game. Hurley is a terrible offensive coach. Defensively he leaves 4 in again after getting the lead. Surprise his guy scores 5 straight. If he went to Rutgers would it be that bad. Sick of excuses and folding at the end. Choke city

The old Thursday night loss to the lower seed. Hope Rutgers doesn't poach our coach.

of course that was going in, never a doubt. Not even going to say they team played tough and make a good comeback.. bla bla bla... this season was bound to end just as disappointing as it started. I have a very sour taste in my mouth following this team all year, and next year has to many questions to even be excited that we finally end our ncaa drought. Team simply needs to get results before people will believe. Sure we'll again be favored to finish in the top of the A10 next year and everyone will have us making the tournament, we will again have talent on the roster, but this team has to win and win against decent teams before anyone take us for real. Hurley has his work cut out for him, the pressure on him to make the ncaa will be like never before.adam914 wrote:Haha, no doubt that was going in for Davis.

I'm not saying you can't ever criticize the coaching, because I just criticized him for not getting Four off the court on defense when we had the lead with 1:30 to go and playing offense/defense. But it's kind of absurd to say he cost us the game. Especially when your main point is that he didn't call timeouts while we erasing a double digit lead, when he was right and you are wrong about that. You don't call timeout when you have the other team on their heels.ElmCityRhody wrote:We have called 1 TO in last 12+ min

We just can't close.... Story of the season. I just didn't want our season to end to Umass. They aren't a good team and it just sucks to lose to them to end the season. I could handle losing to anyone else in the conference but not fucking Umass. Bottom line Jarvis, Jared and Iverson all had bad games. We played extremely hard but can't beat anyone when all three better players all have off games. Was it the big stage thing again?

These NBC SN guys are still pumping up DH....
Is RU paying these freakin' guys?
U all have a nice summer! Who knows where we"ll be come November?
I'm gonna sit out Hurley talk.....
If he goes hopefully we can reload with PM and at least not lose our core players to transfer.
Out!

Well we won't have Four around next season to get abused.
Why DH doesn't take him out in that situation is unreal. You would have thought he would have learned that Four can't play defense there.
It's happened before. ECR has a point.
Somebody with balls needs to ask Dan why he didn't.
Of course when does it matter? EVERYBODY makes against us with the game on the line.
Maybe everybody will miss next year. Ha.
Seriously, Dan Hurley has work to do to become a good end of game coach. Right now, going on what we're seeing, he's a lousy one, and it's not changing much either.
If he doesn't, we won't win squat again next year, and if some other program wants him after that, then they can have him. Very harsh, but that's the way I feel.
There are a lot of coaches out there who can close games with similar talent. We have one who can't.

105, Dan has his shot to win big starting next season.
He has to. Or.........
I never thought I would ever say this, but Jim Baron was better at winning close games than Dan Hurley is now.....I mean they both aren't good at it, but DH is worse.

How can JG suddenly not be able to drive to the bucket? Thompson and Akele not be able to score? The shots aren't even CLOSE.
It simply can't be the coach hasn't gotten them 'up' for the game. Good players have that INSIDE them. You can't stop the good players from getting up for a game this important.
Do we really just have young players who choke under pressure? That seems the only answer to me. I'm a '208' type optimist, but I'll take it a step further than he will: we are all angry and hurt right now. Bad things can happen again next year. BUT, be honest, would any of you bet against me if I put down 10-grand and said they WILL make the Dance next year? Would any of you bet against that happening with real money? So we have hope. Waiting another year sucks. Some of us are OLD. Time is short. But next year we WILL dance.
EDIT: OK so this was written when they were down 11 lol
Can't wait for Sunday.
Where do you think we're gonna get sent?
What seed? 7, 6?
Who we gonna match up with?
I can't freaking wait!!!!!!
What's that? I thought we were a lock?
You mean, the wait ISN'T over?
Oh, boy.
But next year is a lock?
OK. If you say so...
We just got SMOKED by one of the worst teams I've ever seen.
Shoulda been down by FIFTY at half.
Wake me up when our name is called on Sunday.
PS: (Thought I was done bitchin? Not so fast)
The trivia question, Since its inception, which school
has won the most A10 titles? A: UMass B: URI C: GW
I'll give you three guesses...
Just wondering, have we won the FEWEST?!?!?
Has any other school that's been in this league for 50 years
won 1 title?
WTF?!?!?

Will we really have more than 10 players dressed for any games next year?
Cuz, you know, we're allowed to have THIRTEEN!!!!!!!

Hate to keep harping on this but.....the recruits; if they are good, might be good in a year or two, will need time to adjust, EC and rust, HM getting into playing his position, and on and on, transfers out?....more unknowns than knows....show me, don't tell me....I will stand by this....one of the recruits has to have huge impact fast, the others eat minutes and produce in major way off the bench...

This team had their best win of the year about two weeks ago at Dayton. It then promptly followed that up with very lackluster efforts in two straight games against far lesser teams (as compared to the Flyers). That pattern is a familiar theme for too many of our players. They play lights out in some games and fade away in others. The ability is there but there is just not enough consistency. They need to bring it every game for this program to elevate itself. Garrett and Terrell, to name just two, have a lot of talent but it isn't visible in every game.

Like ECR, I wear my emotions on my sleeve.
Especially after a stink out like that. I knew we were going to make a game of it. We almost always do.
And guess what we also always do? We end up LOSING anyway.
Other than the game against a powerhouse Brown squad, how many comeback wins have we had this year?
We really aren't very good, bottom line. Add EC and health for all to the mix, and we still wouldn't have been good enough.
Our players aren't clutch, and our coach has some serious late game shortcomings.
I'm not saying we don't have talent, both players and coach. Just that talent doesn't equal wins, and that's what matters in the end.
There are quite a few coaches out there, who I truly believe would have taken what we had this year and won several more games, even without EC.
Dan has had 6 years as a college coach to figure this stuff out. He's not getting it. Will MORE talent solve this?
I'm not convinced whatsoever at this point.

So dumb. Say it as many times as you want, it's still wrong and it's still a bad opinion.rambone 78 wrote: We really aren't very good, bottom line. Add EC and health for all to the mix, and we still wouldn't have been good enough.
Overall, I'm surprised there is so much emoting going on here after such a meaningless game. I expected to win tonight, but we knew this season was ending tonight or tomorrow. It's been a hard year. The kids that were still standing at the end fought their asses off like they did all year, but we only had 8 guys and three of them have not played much basketball. I think this group came pretty close to maxing out, only got outclassed four or five times all year. That's not bad for playing shorthanded. I think it's a good reflection on this staff and the character of the guys on the team. Hopefully next year we can stay healthy. If we do we will have a very good year.

TP, what I meant was we just weren't consistent from game to game.
Of course there were mitigating factors like injuries.
Look at Earl. Had a career game, and almost everyone else was a no show.
Too many games with not enough guys having good games, and with the lack of depth, spelled DOOOOOMMM.........there I said it
Short frontcourt with injuries. Short bench, relying on untested freshmen, more injuries.
Bad decision making at times, especially late, by both players and the coach....
Just a perfect storm of not good enough. Plenty of excuses to go around.
It's OVER, thankfully. Time to start looking ahead to recruiting.
But I'm not going to fall for the hype. Not until they actually start winning.
And TP, my reply to your "6 or 7 seed?' Nope. Maybe if our coach was named K.

Someone hitting a key shot over 4. Didn't I just see that last week?
Actually, we've all seen that too much this year.
This team, for some reason, just doesn't know how to close out games.

If you have anything resembling balanced classes, you will have three or four guys every year that haven't played much basketball. We also have a guy sitting out his transfer year. A guy did quit, although luckily it was a guy who was probably our worst player, but it is still another roster spot taken up. Then you lose two guys to injury (who happen to be your two best guys), have a couple other guys get banged up here and there. Honestly, I'm not sure what you'd like them to do about any of the above.section(105) wrote:......did any of us think in this point in the DH career here; we would only have 8 guys and three of them have not played much basketball....what?... what is this JWU?
This was just one of those years where everything that could have gone wrong did, and that happens sometimes. Unfortunately, it happened to us at a particularly bad time in our program's history. But if you can keep it in perspective, I think you should be able to see it for what it was.

The fact that Earl had such a good game tonight makes it even worse that he's graduating, but we have 3 incoming freshman to replace him, so not exactly a disaster... I was never a huge fan of Four, seemed like we sacrificed so much on defense for his occasional 3 ball. But, nobody expected him to play more than 20 minutes a game so we got more than we thought out of him.
Other than those two losses, everybody returns.
I know people hate the NEXT YEAR talk, but it looks like NEXT YEAR will truly be THE YEAR.

Wow, WTF is with the doom and gloom tonight. We had a season full of bad friggin luck. Look Dan has made bad calls but to pretty much say he isn't a good coach is trash. I can't think of a single professional basketball analyst say anything but great things about DH. I know some of us on the board think we are smarter than those analyst but we're not. That's why they get paid to talk. Rambone, I appreciate your open and honest comments but to say even with a healthy EC (and health Hass) that it wouldn't be enough is one of the dumbest things you've posted.

When we do start winning, I can't wait to start hearing all the excuses you have for why it is attributed to everything but Hurley as a coach. I'm sure there will be others as well. I'm looking forward to it.Gonebarongone wrote:Your spirit animal would not be happy with the world record excuses per word in that post.TruePoint wrote:If you have anything resembling balanced classes, you will have three or four guys every year that haven't played much basketball.

I can't wait till this team wins games. Whenever that comes.
Why people get paid to talk? There are hundreds of comments on this board about the media covering our games not knowing anything. Media types praised Baron to the moon.
Iffy... EC... HM... But Wait! Billy Baron! Holton! Mike Powell! Amaan! Hare! Biggie! the kid from Germany that couldn't hold onto the ball!
It seems that every year the unexpected happens here.

It's a lead-pipe LOCK, right Rams? So all kidding aside, what odds are you laying?
2-1?
And you get absolutely no excuses?
No, "Our 12 best players were rusty."
No, "The refs sucked."
No, "We don't get enough fans at home."
No, "Too many non-bubble teams lost in their league tourneys."
No, "We got the shot we wanted, it just didn't fall."
No, "We had to play all of the best teams twice, and both times on the road."
Talk to me. I'm listening.

Four McGlynn on Jabari Hinds. WTF
I watch some A10, I certainly don"t watch every game
But it doesn't take John Wooden to know that Trey Davis was a better cover for Four. He shoots from his hip, and has zero game off the dribble.
I don't know who is doing the scouting.
That was a huge miss from the first second. Hinds got hot, got confident and carried a high school team to a double digit lead through the first 30 minutes.
We dont have the horses to play from behind.
Game over.
I am the #1 fan on the Dan Hurley bandwagon but please some people need to stop making excuses.
Real poor game plan tonight. Maybe DH is thinking about Piscataway.
We are much more talented than 17-15. Our team and our coach under delivered.

How many second half leads did we blow?
Not because EC and Hass were out...leads that we HAD and LOST because we couldn't finish?
A) 3
B) 4
C) 5
D) 6
E) 7
F) (I know, I know, the SAT only has 4 choices now...too bad, we're not quite there yet) 8
G) 9
H) 10!!!
Winner, winner.
Oh, and Rams, if 2-1 is too scary, what about 3-2?
Talk to me.

Re: Game 32: UMASS A10 Tourn Thursday March 10, 6:30pm NBCSN
as a passionate fan of college basketball, im 32 years old, a uri alumni class of 2006 i need to get something off my chest on this board.
tomorrow night im gona rep my rhode island basketball shirt at the big east tournament during the pc game because i know that this program will turn the corner and finally make the ncaas next year with or without hurley ( even though hed be an absolute fool for going to rutgers they wont contend in the big ten probably ever
ive lived through the partying it up before games in the early 2000s to go see brian woodward, hellenga, air canada jon clark, drob dwan robinson, marcel monplasir, jb jr etc win some games at the ryan center but never really sniff the ncaas ceot for the one time they choked in like 08 i believe
this team going forward has more talent then any uri team since the late 90s before i was even a fan because i was in middle school n didnt even know rhode island was just a simple drive thru the state of CT
im the only one out of all my friends from college who follows every aspect of this program thru n thru to the point where north carolina--whom i was obessed with before attending uri--has taken a back seat to uri and the a10
i have the up most confidence in what dan hurley is doing at rhode island
only having one other coach since ive been aboard--hurley has brought in more talent in prb one or two recruiting classes then baron and whomever the AD was back when i attended uri
i cant wait til next season when people at my job who saw me rep rhody sweatshirts in the bronx everyday during the winter--notice that we won because the score of the uri game flashes on the espn bottom line because they r a top 25 team for most of next season
all of my old classmates r going to come out of the woodwork repping rhody gear n posting about them on facebook because this team is going to run shit next season--much like people all over new york r now mets fans becuase after 9 years of irrelevance they r prepared to win--sorry for such a long rant but since im off tomorrow because i thought i was going to barclays im pissed off yet motivated
i dont expect half of the people to read this mile long message but we will win in 16-17
ec matthews is just like matt harvey-- this team gets its LEADER back stronger then ever next season n he will shine
uri hasnt even had a player in discussion to be drafted since before i even cared about rhody basketball
i look forward to following all ur posts in the off season about recruiting and other rhody bball news
MARK MY WORDS--THIS TEAM WILL FINALLY DANCE IN 2017 AND I WILL BE THERE EVEN IF ITS IN FRIGGIN CALIFORNIA N I HATE FLYING
GOD BLESS ALL U DIE HARD RHODY FANS WHOM IVE NEVER MET--URI IN 2017
