Reports now have Orlando Antigua being named the new coach at South Florida- great coach with a great story. Hope he does well.

And a coveted assistant position opens up at Kentucky.

Cuonzo Martin the new rumored unconfirmed coach at Marquette.

Regardless if it's true or not, I just learned during this tournament that his name is pronounced "Khan-zo." I had always said it wrong. Sorry, Cuonzo.

And then...

A move to Marquette from the SEC, ACC, PAC-12, BIG-10, etc., is a step DOWN. Coaches like Smart are too smart for such nonsensical moves, it's lateral at best.
The NBE is not the Big East, regardless of the moolah. It could very likely turn out to be a coaches' graveyard except for the two or three teams that separate themselves from the rest of the flock…..Shall we say, "A-10 Lite"??????

VCU Insider is still saying Smart is "considering" the Wake Forest job.
The NBE followers fail to realize, that they are The Big East in name only.
The cache they had for so long, is gone forever.
No matter how many schools they can poach from other conferences, they will
never replace the schools that left.

I honestly can't see Smart leaving VCU anytime soon. I only say this because why turn down UCLA only to go somewhere else the following season? UCLA is a premier program. There's only a few of them. UCLA, Ky, Duke, UNC, Kansas. That's not a knock on the Mich St, Wisconsins, Florida's of the world. There's upper tier programs like MSU and Florida, then there's the elite of the elite. Why turn one of elite of the elite down and go somewhere else a year later? Doesn't make sense.

Bo Ryan is 69, Smart could easily be pegged as their next coach and return home.

Heh. The BC job search is almost as big a farce as Marquette's.
Now there's a report that Jimmy Christian is on their radar,
and Mark Schmidt of the Bonnies is out, as potential coaches at BC.

Remember when he was a hot young coach at Kent State,
and most of us would have killed for him to replace CFL?

His lack of real succes at TCU took the shine off him. While he supposedly wanted to get back to Ohio for his wife who was from the area, I think he also decided to get out of TX before they canned him and while he still was in demand.

His former teamate Oppenheimer was an assistant for him at Kent State.

Christian played for Ralph Willard (later head coach at Western KY, Pitt, and Holy Cross) in high school, was recruited by Rick Pitino to BU, and later played for Tom Penders at URI.

Wojo gets the Marquette job....shows you exactly where the NBE stands. That's an A10-esque hire.

who says he is the heir apparent to Coach K? has that been publicly stated a la Hopkins or is that just speculation....because there have been many former Dukies who were pegged with that role. Yes an unproven Asst is an A10 esque hire, regardless what the crystal ball says about him. It went from a guy with 3 FF appearances (Howland), to a guy with 1 (Smart), to a guy who has never coached a college game.

Interesting that Marquette was unable to get a proven high level head coach. Going the assistant coach route with no track record is somewhat of a gamble even with Wojo's pedigree.

I have got to think that the instability at Marquette did not help matters. They currently have an interim President and Athletic Director. Risky to take a job not knowing who your bosses will be. Performance of the new Catholic Big East in its inuagural season with just four NCAA bids and its only tourney wins being over La-Lafayette and UW-Milwaukee might also give some candidates pause.

Johnny Dawkins proved you can only learn and wait for so long. Chris Collins, ditto. Wojo, ditto. Maybe Grant Hill gets the coaching bug?????
Maybe the school looks outside?
Who knows.
Maybe Wojo has a $10,000,000 a year salary courtesy of Fox and a lifetime supply of brats and beer and says, "I'm happy."
Maybe he's not a great coach and Marquette is desperate -- again.

Aside from their tv revenue....the gap between the A-10 and the new big east is as small as it has ever been......welcome to the world of the mid-major......a mid-major making the most money of the mid-majors but a mid-major nonetheless......

Plenty of people who'd be logical successors to Coach K.
Most, as of today, have a better resume, by virtue of having been a head coach.
Dawkins, Amaker, Collins and yes, Bobby Hurley.
Maybe it will be Wojo, but he'll have to prove he's got the goods at MU.
Bottom line is, he's still an unproven assistant coach.
I doubt MU followers are jumping for joy today.

Snyder went from rising star to nowhere in 0-60 time.
He seemed to have it all, had initial success and just bombed.
I don't think he resurfaced anywhere, either.
Ace, if you were a URI follower in 1988, you'd have REALLLLLY
hated Danny Ferry.
In a 2 point loss to Duke in a Sweet 16 game, the refs let him do anything he wanted,
and whistled Kenny Green anytime he went near Ferry.
We had beaten Missouri and Syracuse. Green destroyed Derrick Coleman.
Silk Owens and Tommy Garrick were an unstoppable backcourt.
Tom Penders blowing kisses to the crowd.
Heady times for Rhody.

I hope this is an APRIL FOOL'S JOKE!!!!!!!!!!! Snyder was so obsessed with winning that he became a MAJOR CHEATER AT MISSOURI, COULDN'T GET WORK, AND HAS BEEN A COACH IN THE NBDL, RUSSIA, AND AN ASSISTANT IN THE NBA.

Kenny said his jersey was 2 sizes bigger after the game from Ferry pulling on it. However, the fouls didn't seem to come. Shocker.

Manning and Christian's name came up when Baron was fired. Both won more games in the last two years than Hurley, although he walked into a much worse situation. Hopefully Hurley has more long-term success.

It might be worth keeping an eye on the situation at St. John's. Lavin has not lived up to expectations. The supposedly talent loaded team started off poorly in the new Catholic Big East this year before later coming on strong. It however was too little too late as their RPI was not good and they rightfully missed the NCAA Tournament. They made the NIT and were awarded a #1 seed but got beaten badly by Robert Morris on their home court before a sparse crowd of just 1,027. Since that time, two players, Jakarr Sampson and Chris Obekpa, have announced they are leaving the program. There are rumors of more. Lavin is therefore thought to be on shaky ground.

10 credits? Come on. That's 3 courses plus a 1 credit course.

That's not close, as he lead people to believe.

If I was 10 credits short, you'd better believe I would know I wasn't close to graduating.

Just a bunch of bullshit spin.

Manhattan's taking him back, because he's a good coach. Not great on resumes though.

Rambone,
I had the same thought when I read about the credits. 10 credits short isn't exactly close to graduating.

I keep thinking our program is down and out. But then I remembered we have 2/5 of the a10 all rookie team.

That is probably the best thing to have if your team is not very good.
