It is way too early in the season to go into complete meltdown mode. I don't see how anyone could be surprised that there are growing pains. But this effort really was discouraging. The defense is just unbelievably bad, and the offense is about the same.

I don't think anyone is "melting down" but this looks like more than growing pains. This is worse than we played in any game last season.

URI was down 19-16 with 9:00 to go in the first half, and since it is 43-19 for SMU.

When Gil picked up his 2nd foul with 3:30 in the first half with URI down two possession (26-20), and it is 39-15 since.

I thought until Gil picked up that foul, we were at least playing tough and were rebounding and not giving up super easy hoops inside. Since then, even when Gil has been in the game, SMU has just done everything they wanted. The lack of depth inside is going to be almost as big of a problem as the lack of shooters as the season goes on.

Our strength is around the basket. Either getting to the rim, or getting post touches. As soon as we hit some adversity tonight, the jumpers began to fly. That is a sign of an immature/inexperienced basketball team. Disappointing night.

This game sucks, but the only thing worse than URI tonight is some of you guys on this board. One bad game in early November and everyone is jumping off the bandwagon and comparing the coach to Jerry D and wondering if the assistant at Bryant is available? Geez. Nice fans we have. I'd be interested to find out if every team that was ever blown out on the road ended up having a terrible season. I'm guessing no.

This is where I would have preferred one older experienced coach on the staff among the many suits to serve as a calming influence for both players and coaches. That being said, It's just one game. Hopefully this will serve as a humbling, learning experience that can be built upon. And for the record, I think SMU is going to make some noise this year.
