I didn't even know that position existed at URI, and I don't remember Rod telling us that this guy was going to Buffalo. Guess I'm getting old.

I see he has a master's in geography so he ought to be able to find Buffalo.

So, what did happen to all the applicants that Dan was boasting about? He said he was getting tons of calls about the job. None of them were considered?

This is more delicate than when Dan got here.
Plugging Bobby as Associate Coach was easy.
Dan didn't know Preston and had a getting to know him period,
before hiring him.
Carr was a known commodity from Rutgers days.
Now, who earned the top assistant job?
Preston's hard work on the road, recruiting, should prevail,
unless Dan brings in another high profile person as an addition.
Or, does he promote Tirone and just add a DBO?
One thing I do know is, Dan Hurley thinks things through before he acts.

In whatever area Dan thinks he needs help, he'll hire someone who will fill that need.

We can speculate on any number of issues, but Dan will make a good choice.

Adam Zagoria ‏@AdamZagoria
Bobby Hurley has picked 2/3 of his staff at Buffalo. Levi Watkins & Eric Harrield assts, Ben Wood Director of Ops. Harrield was at St. Ants.

Adam Zagoria ‏@AdamZagoria
So by adding Eric Harrield, Hurley now has a former St. Anthony asst and Sports U head coach with deep ties in New Jersey.

Since he hired three people I would think that would be 3/4th of his staff.

Haha Iggy. Ben Wood's position is technically not a coaching position, so if by "staff" we mean "coaching staff" then Zags is accurate.

Bobby's hires are recruiters. Still needs someone to help him with the coaching end.

Bobby just signed a juco forward originally from Romulus, the same school as E.C. Mathews. Since I don't believe in coincidences, I gotta think that Preston played some role in that.
Dan and Bobby both have a coaching slot open. My theory: Bobby is holding a job open for Tirone if Tirone doesn't get promoted by Dan.

I believe asst. coaches contracts run from June to May, so I'm thinking Hurley has settled on someone but there won't be an announcement until closer to June 1.

Uh....ok. I conceded that I could be wrong the same day that I posted that comment. Kind of odd timing to bring it up now, since you could have called me out about that months ago. Classy move to call someone out after they've already copped to being wrong.

STC, I'm sure of two things: (1) I'm wrong sometimes, but not as often as I'm right, and (2) I could find a post in which you were wrong about something, but I can't recall any off the top of my head because I didn't even know there was an STC until five minutes ago.

TP: It's not that you were wrong; none of us are right all the time. It's that you chided us for even discussing the possibility that Tirone wouldn't be promoted. As it turns out, it was worth discussing. So it's the chiding I take offense to.

Yup. I misread the situation based on having incomplete information and faulty assumptions. Further information was brought to my attention after I posted, and I admitted I might have been a bit too certain about what I was saying. Sorry for chiding. Lesson learned on that front.

Buffalo recently got a commitment from transfer Jamir Hanner (a former Seton Hall commit). Hanner reportedly signed without even visiting the school because he knows the Hurley name and heard good things about Bobby from Biggie Minnis. It's so much about relationships and connections in this game.

“Even though I haven’t visited the University of Buffalo, I know about the tradition of the Hurleys and I think it’s a good opportunity for me at a new program and it’s a new start,” he told SNY.tv.

“My time at Marshall was a good transition from prep school to becoming a freshman at Marshall University. I appreciate what Marshall has done for me but it was time to move on and pursue other options.

“I’m thankful and grateful that coach Bobby Hurley was interested. I am very familiar with what Coach Hurley did as a player and his background speaks for itself. It should be a good experience as I continue to learn and grow as a player. Also, my best friend (brother) DeShon Minnis, who is at Rhode Island, spoke good things about Hurley.”
