I think it doesn’t look great that he went on vacation, but I also don’t think it should be this big of a deal. No matter the politician, they wouldn’t change much .

Credit to AOC, a congresswoman from NY, for raising over $1 million for supplies and relief aid for people of Texas. I look forward to long-standing members of congress from Texas reaching out to their wealthy donors to also raise some money to help with aid. As that's the value they can add in times of crises like this.

Re: Covid-19 Effect on College Basketball & Other Sports
I think whoever said that about herd immunity is way off base.
No way will 70% of the population be vaccinated by then.
Too many people are hesitant to get it.
Besides, most other countries are nowhere near that either. Especially poorer countries.
It would be nice, but not realistic. At least the vaccines will keep most people from ending up in the hospital, or worse.
And that's great news. Maybe we will need another booster next year, to update protection from variants, but that's fine, just like the flu.

It's not just vaccines. It's also people who have already got it. In RI almost 50% are either vaccinated or have had it. That's what we know. We also know people have had it but never got tested. Herd immunity is close.

blueram, you are right when you say a lot more people have had the virus, than have been reported.
But those are mostly younger people who don't get sick from it usually.
For us older folks, we aren't so lucky if we get it....so we've been way more cautious.
I think by summer we'll be good....it's been a pisser to have lost an entire year of normal life, especially for someone like me who recently retired and doesn't have a whole lot of years left.
My last indoor restaurant trips were in October, the Mews and Georges.

Agree herd immunity is close. Much closer than the news media would have us believe. Expect this rapid decrease in new cases to continue in March and April.

Mondays are usually higher than the weekend.
The reporting catches up resulting in higher numbers.
But of course RI lags behind their neighbors when it comes to vaccinations.
CT is starting ages 55-64 starting next Monday.

The UK variant is probably becoming a little more prevalent by now. More transmissable.
But also, some people are reading the good news and are letting their guard down too early.
The vac rate is increasing...needs to keep increasing.....the supply problem is easing.

Evidence is growing that once you are vaccinated, you are much less likely to transmit the virus even if you do get infected, smaller viral loads in the nose. Even if we do get infected, much less likely to get sick from it too.
So when Fauci says we still shouldn't eat out even after fully vaccinated, I say stuff it....I'm going out, still with my mask of course.

Decreasing in US and Worldwide.
Decreasing before we started vaccinating.
Lots of money being made buying airline stock, hotel stock, cruise line stock......
People are going to be traveling in the US like crazy this summer because they have such a case of cabin fever.
Except Fauci - the guy who said masks don’t work in March and now says we should wear two masks - even after your two vaccine shots.

Re: Covid-19 Effect on College Basketball & Other Sports
Daily New Cases in Rhode Island continue to drop at a steady rate
On January 7 the 7 day average way 1,127
Today the 7 day average is 307.
A fast and steady drop of 820 or 72.8% in about 6 weeks time.
Dropping like a rock and much of that before vaccines.
Book your vacations for the summer months before everything is sold out.
Johnson and Johnson 1 dose vaccine approved today.
More vaccine approvals in the way
Manufacturing ramping up faster.
Or stay home and watch CNN and MSNBC.

Have they done studies on the efficacy of masks for different levels of particulates?
I know N95 and KN95s efficacy, but a cloth mask?
I'm just not sure I understand how states with mask mandates can have a similar infection rate of states with no mandate. And if masks work, why do we have so many other limits in place like quarantining after travel?
Asking for a friend...who just came back from a trip to Florida... where everything was pretty normal...

I plan on several vacations starting in July.
I will still wear a mask in a crowded situation. Otherwise, no.
