Re: Mens Soccer - 2019
I was told the Uconn home game happened because uconn had a higher seed. It had nothing to do with a press box.

I’m guessing that game wasn’t a big draw. If half the 1,042 attendees are potential paying customers than charge them. I’ll I’m saying is why can’t the administrators/athletic department make it so the Men’s and women’s soccer teams have a complete field. Seems like all they need is a press box to make a a fully functional facility.

It’s insane to think you should start charging for watching Soccer Games
Many Students drop in for short periods of time - not staying the whole game or even half
If you start charging admission you will definitely lose attendance
I have been to a number of games this season and I can’t understand where a 1,042 average per game comes from. It’s not that high. Look at the picture.

Re: Mens Soccer - 2019
Wow-this goes back to my original observation.
With no support base (fans or donors),the $$ would have to come from the state.
The budget has been on freeze since 2007?
Pres. Dooley has not gotten a nickel raise for anything?
The athletic dept. has no $$ in the budget .
RK-what I would suggest,is to address the issue with your elected state reps..

You mean lack of donations/fundraising like men's soccer winning the athletic department challenge last year?

They didn't only win the 2019 Day of Giving, they destroyed every other program. In one day the Men's Soccer Program raised over $34K and received the $4K Bonus on top of that. $38,000 in one day. I trust Thorr and Coach Elliot to put those, and all funds, towards what is most important to improve the program. A Press Box doesn't seem to be a priority at this point. This program has been one of URI's most successful going back to the 70's.

Again,I will donate to a press box.
Put up or shut up.
Rhowdy's certainly not a donor.
The only thing interest he has in soccer is the cost of admission is in his budget.

Re: Mens Soccer - 2019
I’d be happy to put up some money. Obviously they had other plans for the money like a trip to play Denver (very cool for the players) or maybe practice gear I don’t know it’s really up to the team it’s their money. Why why why can’t the cost of a press box not be put into the overall yearly budget for the university it’s a small percentage, similar to what the state of RI provides the university!
Also has Rhody been able to host a A-10 tourney recently? The business of hosting 7 other ( I’m counting Rhody as one of the Final eight competitors) full soccer squads and their supporting personnel would be beneficial to local hotels, restaurants etc. I’m not saying Rhody can’t do this because they don’t have a press box, I’m only asking if this is an impedance to Rhody hosting a A-10 tourney.

Re: Mens Soccer - 2019
150, it's probably on a long list of priorities.
Where it stands on that list is the question.
Basically every sports program at URI needs money for something. It's a Thorr juggling act as to where the money goes, unless a donation is given specifically to a certain program.

Re: Mens Soccer - 2019
If you trust wikipedia we last held the tournament in 2009, so hard to tell if they're trying to go with a rotation or if we've been held back for other reasons. Since 2009 UNC-Charlotte, Dayton and St. Louis held the tournament twice but La Salle, Duquesne, UMass, George Washington, St. Joe's, and St. Bonaventure haven't held a tournament. There's only been one tournament in the Philadelphia area, one in DC, and UMass and St. Bonaventure have never hosted the tournament.
While looking that up, I see that we have been the A10 men's soccer championship 8 times since they started the tournament in 1987. Dayton and Rutgers are tied for second with 4 each. Also, we apparently held the tournament in Meade Stadium in 1991 and 1995

Why all the ruckus about a press box? The field looks great, the scoreboard works, wi-fi works and the seats aren't scary.R.Kelly150 wrote: ↑4 years ago I’d be happy to put up some money. We've already heard that it didn't cost a playoff game...so...why the ruckus? Are we all going to get to sit up there when it gets cold?

Re: Mens Soccer - 2019
In the notes they say our best ever finish in the NCAA tournament was in 2000, but that is inaccurate. In 1979 we made the quarterfinals. So in 2000 we made the Sweet 16 in 1979 we made the Elite 8 if you will. I wonder if the confusion is because we won two games in 2000 but only one in the 1979 tournament due to the size of the fields in each year

Syracuse scores, but not sure how that wasn't called offsides. It was clear. Is there a review?

Tied. Syracuse thinks that should’ve been offside (it wasn’t unlike Syracuse’s goal) but justice.

And more controversy. Just called a questionable foul on Rhody in the box with 4 min left for a Pk. Syracuse scores. What a joke.

The more I see the replay the more I’m convinced it wasn’t a penalty. Refs have some explaining to do.

Garbage way to lose, while there was contact made by URI player the SU player ran onto his already outstretched leg...2nd year in a row we had the better run of play and better opportunities but couldn't pull it out.

Re: Mens Soccer - 2019
This is worse than last year. Last year we blew a big lead. This year it was stolen from us. 2 horrendous calls led to 2 goals. URI 2, Refs 2, Syracuse 1.

Really got screwed with no offside call and a very questionable call leading to penalty kick. Even the Syracuse announcers said the goal was clearly offside.

Didn't lose. We tied with the refs at 2, while Syracuse got 1. It was stolen.
