Re: David Cox Coach's Show
I live in Newport, and would NEVER eat at the Red Parrot....it is a 100% tourist trap! In fact, I went there 2 years ago for the coaches show, and Tuesday was the first time I had been back, for the coaches show.Taylor Swift wrote: ↑5 years ago I was there! Dave is working hard with these guys. He had mentioned that some of these freshman guys went from having to know like four plays total, to knowing 20+ (can't recall the exact numbers he said right now but it's in the recording). PLUS the fact that they're freshmen. I do not have any hesitations in DC as a coach whatsoever.
Not to turn this into a Yelp review, because I hate that site BUT...The food at Red Parrot is a bust, as any restaurant with a massive 20-page menu is. The wraps looked stale and I heard the rice was awful. I had a few drinks, but everyone near me complained about the food. Plus it was like $10 for a Tito's & Soda. It's $6 at Mews -- If I was at Mooring or 22 Bowen's that $10 is to be to be expected, price-wise.
I heard from the Learfield team that this was the only show at Red Parrot. I believe it took me about 45 minutes to get from the restaurant back to Gansett.
I would say outside of URI staff there were roughly 20 fans. I've seen fewer people at Two Ten shows before.
I thought attendance was better last night than 2 years ago.

It's like the Carnival Cruise ship of restaurants in Newport or like a "jazzy" Applebees with reggae playing. When I walked in Tuesday night Christmas music was on full blast... I'm like I can't deal with this yet.

After all that I hadn't realized the last time I used Newport Bridge EZ Pass was in 2016. Just received a call from some teenager who works for them telling me about that. This is exactly why I don't FW Newport.

Re: David Cox Coach's Show
Steve is not a good host for the radio show. He must write down his questions because he seems limited in his basketball knowledge. Sometimes his words are just incorrect. When he guesses at the answer to his own question (leading Coach to an answer) Coach has to politely disagree with him. I wish Chris DiSano did the radio show.
The show felt like an excuse show. Especially by Steve. He spouts off all these great stats when we all know the team has played poorly. The number of excuses for the Fr is record setting.
He opens up coming out of a break “We are one night away from getting back at on the playing court ......” What is that? Who has ever called it a “playing court”?

They should take questions from actual fans who go to the bother of showing up.

I kind of wish they did the show in the Dollar Bar like they used to Dan’s first few seasons. Not that I mind the upstairs, but it gets so crammed there since it’s so narrow you have to get there super early.

And of course I couldn't get out of work early enough to get there.
This will be the last season I won't be able to make these shows and many home games.
Retirement next December [or perhaps sooner] can't come fast enough.

Don’s contribution is to look the opponents stats (season avgs) online and ready them to us. No knowledge of how a player performed against Top 100 opponents compared to running up stats against 250-300 rated teams.

Re: David Cox Coach's Show: 6pm Jan 3 @ Dan’s Carriage Inn, N Kingstown
I'm planning on being there. For some reason, I was thinking of Dan's Place in WG, and not this place in NK. I believe Dan's Carriage Inn has been umpteen things through the years (It was called Hoof & Feathers once, REALLY?!?! ). I googled to see what it was all about and looks like they have a line dancing night. Count me out for that one.

I am really disappointed that there’s no link available to last nights coaches show. It’s been 23 hours. What’s going on? My experience has been 920 posts them quicker than that. What did I miss?

Re: David Cox Coach's Show: 6pm Jan 3 @ Dan’s Carriage Inn, N Kingstown
I was there and I could hardly hear a thing because that place stinks (figuratively). I’ve been going to as many coaches shows as I can for the past 5 years or so and this by far was the worst venue.
Between Red Parrot and Dans Carriage Inn I sincerely hope Learfield can cross these two restaurants off their list for upcoming seasons. When I first got there I asked a man (non Rhody fan) if the seat next to him was taken and he said he was “saving it for his imaginary friend named Oscar”. I’m like oh boy this should be an interesting evening...
The restrooms were to the left of where the show was going on as well as the service station for the servers to grab their customers’ drinks, so it was constant noise. The bartenders were also running the dishwasher - super loud compared to other restaurants. Another section of this restaurant would have made way more sense.
After the show was over, another guy (non Rhody fan) says to Jermaine, “are you here tonight for a basketball game? I am saying that because you’re tall” and I roll my eyes to Jermaine... felt terrible for the kid. Felt like I was in a Seinfeld episode.
Apparently the show was also being shown on YurView so that may be why a link has not been made available yet.

Do they have sports bars on campus any more when the drinking age is 21? Sounds like a struggling business or a recipe for underage drinking.section(105) wrote: ↑5 years ago ......wouldn’t it be great to host most of these in an on campus modern sports bar/restaurant......

It seems that they haven't found the perfect venue yet....the Mews is a place I can get to more than the others, but the upstairs area is way too narrow to fit many people.

They used to have them in the dollar bar at the Mews which I think was the perfect spot compared to the upstairs. There’s still going to be another show at Dan’s, hopefully not next to their bathrooms.

The venue was no good for the show, I agree with TSwift.
I asked the bartender if they could pipe the sound into the speakers in the bar - and he said the computer has been frozen for a month and playing the same songs for that entire time. Pretty sure I head "Total Eclipse of the Heart twice. That's a special level of hell right there.

The computer is frozen so we’re just not gonna fix it? Great business model.
Put it this way. I couldn’t hear ANYTHING and when Steve asked Dana what his favorite music was and he said PnB Rock I thought I heard David Lee Roth at first. Then my brain properly processed what I heard.

Hopefully they play well on Weds or this coukd be a tough show for Coach Cox.
Btw, does Thorr have any input on the host. Steve is horrible as the host.
It woukd be great to have Chris Disano or one of the local media covering the team as the host.
Steve doesn’t know what questions to ask.

83, Steve won't ask the tough questions, and they don't have the audience ask them either.
Doubt that will ever change.
If you want to talk to Cox, it's after the show. I know when Dan did the shows, he would take questions from people afterwards, and he was pretty upfront about some things that needed to be addressed. Just not in front of everyone.

I am not expecting the hard questions but would like some good questions. Steve just rambles on and usually makes a statement that he assumes Coach will agree with. He will go on for 1-2 minutes about Martin and finish with “you’ve got to be happy with his performance as a Fr”.rambone 78 wrote: ↑5 years ago 83, Steve won't ask the tough questions, and they don't have the audience ask them either.

I don’t need to hear him make fun of himself every show. I really think he doesn’t know much about basketball. He seems to have a nervous excitement hosting the show. It is amazing how little they cover.

Re: David Cox Coach's Show: Thursday 6pm @ Mews Tavern
From what I understand the show would be under the control of the iHeartRadio/B101 contract in conjunction with Miller Lite since their radio sponsorship kind of dictates where the shows are, etc.
