That's true. What exquisite timing that was. Not.
What was URI paying him, like 50K a year? I know he didn't want to leave [a la Skinner] but that amount was laughable even back then.
I think Texas offered him 500K a year, so he had no choice.

The 4th school was GW.
I think Penders took Fordham to the NIT, but that was before they joined the A10.
BTW, some dreamers on the Fordham board want to go after Bobby as a replacement for Pecora.
Best joke I've heard today. Bobby just got extended at Buffalo.
He would never coach in the same league as his brother. Even if he did, it wouldn't be there.

URI was not going to match Texas. But Ted Eddy and John Chuckran were happy to see him go. They bumped up Skinner's salary and eventually put his office in a trailer. Building 19 all the way.

Maybe Bobby's holding out for Canisius.

Re: Tom Penders fired up about Rhody's Marketing
Eddy Eddy and Chuckran both came from Penn State.
Both had enough of Joe Paterno being the biggest name on campus.
When Penders was on the verge of reaching deity status,
they were more than happy to see him go.
I talked to Ellie Lamire, Ramfan85's big crush, and she said,
"I would never be associated with an athletics program, where
wiinning was the main goal." Yup, and Assistant AD said that!
This small! We do!
Oh, and Chuckran banished the real Ramettes, as being "too slutty".
URI has long been its own worst enemy.

When Will Rogers said that he never met a man (woman) he didn't like, it's obvious that he never met any of them.

Rod is right. URI shoots itself in the foot a lot. I like to think that has changed.Chuckran was a safe hire after the Zarch scandal. There to coast to retirement.
Penders was a late hire, having a sudden departure from Fordham. Turned out great for two years. Harrick was hired by boosters, not Carothers.
Then came Jerry Lewis DeGregorio, a fraud from day one, chosen by the players and some suck up alums.
They reward Baron for a 20 win season by giving him a 10 year extension. And thus follows mediocrity and a program that vanished year by year.
Hurley seems to be on the right track. Though losing Preston still rankles. This is shaping up an entertaining season. A good season? We find out on Selection Sunday.

Re: Tom Penders fired up about Rhody's Marketing
Thorr and Dooley get it. They're on the same page, or it looks like it anyway.
URI is never completely out of the woods when it comes to support from the administration, though.
The toughest part imo isn't making the Dance, although it's been 15 years. It's keeping things at a high level once that's accomplished.
Success starts at the top down. Same for all sports, pro and college. If the organization isn't there, then success isn't there.
Look at the Pats. Then look at the Jets. Great example. Night and day. The Pats have the right people in place and they keep them. The Jets have had Moe, Larry, and Curley running the show for like seems forever.

Re: Tom Penders fired up about Rhody's Marketing
You're right. Making the Dance and then vanishing does little to gain credibilty. Today's URI recruits have never heard of Jim Harrick. Not sure you van compare to pro sports, where good ownership means so much.
I think Dooley and Thorr are on the same page. And Hurley too. Just fels so long since URI mattered.
