One of the stars of this weekend, Graham Mertz for Wisconsin, has tested positive. He’ll retest to confirm the result. If positive again, he must sit for 21 days, meaning he misses 3 games in an 8 game season.

Why can’t we have nice things?

"Mertz will take a polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test to confirm the result. If confirmed, Mertz would have to miss a minimum of 21 days, according to the Big Ten's protocols for athletes who test positive."

VCU's schedule was wrecked by this. Their only hard-scheduled game is now Dec 22nd at LSU.

Wisconsin’s backup, Chase Wolf, has also tested positive and needs to confirm through a PCR. If positive, he would also have to sit for minimum 21 days. Wisconsin would be on to their 4th string QB for minimum 3 games. COVID Football!!!!

21 days was set by the Big 10 for their teams only.

Each Power Five conference tests players at least three times per week, but the Big Ten’s mandatory 21-day hiatus for players who test positive is the longest of the group. In the SEC, players who test positive must sit out at least 14 days, while it’s at least 10 days in the ACC, Big 12 and Pac-12.

Louisville is in Kentucky and has much more lax rules for Covid-19. A similar scenario could be in store for URI when it visits Western Kentucky. It may be the only OOC game for URI where there will be fans in the stands. There will be a greater risk for Rhody players there than elsewhere.

Dang, which one of these teams do not belong?

Kansas, Gonzaga, Auburn and ….. St. Joes?

Wow, did St. Joes win a game in the A10 last year? I joke I know they did, I am sure they will be better but this is some of the elite teams in college basketball at least the last couple of years. Just surprised they would be added to a field like that. Maybe the others wanted a guaranteed win. Remind me again, who dropped out of this, and is this guaranteed to be played? Was this not part of the ESPN bubble games. Have they found a home for this tournament?

New England schools Holy Cross and Boston University will not be scheduling any OOC games for men's and women's basketball. They will only play Patriot League games. The only Patriot League teams that will play any OOC games are Army and Navy.

Gina: No spectators at sports of any kind in Rhody for the next two weeks.

I didn't know they were at all now anyway...

She also said youth hockey kids accounting for a lot of new cases. All ice rinks closed for 1 week. "Locking it down right now because we're seeing extremely disturbing trends."

LOL..."starting Monday".

So, just so I have this right...it's safe today and this weekend, but starting Monday, no can do...see: health emergency.

What you are seeing in college football right now is what you can expect to see in college basketball. Prepare yourself for players testing positive and having to sit out and in extreme cases some games being cancelled. Things could change at any time with any program.

Per a headline in the Hartford Courant there will not be fans allowed at their basketball games this season. Players and coaches will be allowed 4 tickets each.

I am afraid that we will soon be making the same type of announcement.

Another smart scheduling move by Pitino

Keep games close by, develop and/or enhance local rivalries

Iona opens the season with nearby Fordham

Rhode Island Schools don’t get this.

One day Iona May knock on the A10 Door for membership. Pitino is moving that program quickly in recruiting, transfers and scheduling.

Now that we're less than 3 weeks away from the season, I'm wondering what the media will be allowed to do? Will we see many games on TV? Will Steve and Don be allowed to do radio broadcasts in person? Will local TV stations be allowed to get highlights and do interviews? Will newspaper people be allowed in? I'm not hearing anything about what kind of coverage we will be getting.
