Rumor has it that Pat Riley absconded them when he was in town and has them hanging in his beach house. True story

Re: Ryan Center In-Game Experience - Issues and Upgrades
All bullshit. We got a slap on the wrist from the NCAA and lost an end of the bench recruit
that Baron would have brought in some bozo who couldn't walk and chew gum at the same time.
The A-10 Championship was never vacated.
This falls into the same petty nonsense that took Sly Williams' retired number
and arbitrarily un-retired it.
I'll contact Thorr and find out what the deal is.
That's ridiculous. That championship was earned on the court.
Jim Harrick has been to the Ryan Center for a game. I wonder if he noticed?

Good to hear rod, there has to be some reason why it's not there. Glad to hear you will find out. I think it's a really important banner that should be up there. My opinion is it means just as much as that NIT banner

This from Thorr:
"Actually when we put the new NCAA banners up, one for the Atlantic 10’s wasn’t ordered. That said, that was an oversight and one that needs to be corrected. Hopefully we can get that banner up ASAP. It is certainly a monumental occasion!"

Good work rod.
But C'Mon Man " oversight" how is there only championship an " oversight"? Seems odd to me.

The finished product following all the upgrades is pretty damn awesome. The Ryan Center now provides the best college basketball fan and student experience in the state.

You know, there's enough room to make a drop-down couple of rows
in that corner and beautify that dog-ass ugly section.
Wait, my dog said his ass looks better than that area.

I talked to someone else tonight that heard the same thing as me and didn't hear it from the same source, so I feel comfortable saying that the improvement that I heard about is having beer in place for the VCU game

Beer allowed cities to develop years ago. People got sick drinking the foul and polluted water. They drank the beer that had all the contaminants boiled out and lived healthier lives.

I hope the beer thing is true...that's a huge step forward for the athletic department.
Figures that the years I've needed to drink to cope with this team there was no beer to be found...and now that we're a watchable team they have it.
Better late than never! !

Re: Ryan Center In-Game Experience - Issues and Upgrades
Did your sources mention to you how it would be served? Because the people I've talked to explained that they aren't rolling out the kegs just yet and that while the general public can finally enjoy some adult beverages it'd be served in a limited capacity. I heard it was one location setup like they've done for a few past concerts. Either way some is better than none and it's another improvement nonetheless!RhowdyRam02 wrote:I talked to someone else tonight that heard the same thing as me and didn't hear it from the same source, so I feel comfortable saying that the improvement that I heard about is having beer in place for the VCU game

No, I didn't hear details on how it was going to be done, just that they planned to have it in place for the VCU game. I'm not even sure if VCU was going to be the first game or if they were hoping to have it in place before that. That said, a "Rhody Pub" type setup like they've done for concerts makes sense.

I noticed yesterday there is a taco/burrito stand in place. Not sure if it's been there from day one but it was the first time I noticed. I already had a Rhody Dog so I didn't try anything. At least the offerings are better this year. Just need a cold beer to wash itt down

Re: Ryan Center In-Game Experience - Issues and Upgrades
No, not officially announced. Soft-launch next Wednesday for Fordham game.
South end-zone area will be home of Rhody Pub and it will be open before game and stay open a bit into the second half. Needless to say more details will become available as the date approaches.
Things like this are done in a deliberate way to ensure they are successful, such as with the football tailgating re-launch a few years back.

Meant to mention this after the game the other day, but I thought Dan Yorke had a great game against Brown. Still had a lot of energy but seemed to go away from the off-script stuff that was driving people nuts. Anybody else feel that way?

The beer garden was announced Wednesday in the Alumni lounge. It seems as though there are some concerns that having another option in terms of alcohol may cause some donors to reduce thier donations.

I think that would increase donations and perhaps get some younger alums and season ticket holders into donating more.Bee311 wrote:The beer garden was announced Wednesday in the Alumni lounge. If it is a weeknight game and you'd like to have a beer or wine before the game, your options aren't too close to campus. Logistically speaking, I think this is an excellent idea.

Miller Lite, Bud Lite, Bud, Narragansett, Corona. $6.50 for the first four; $7.50 for Corona. Crap beer. No thanks. Red and white wine for $7.50.

I would like to eventually see a better beer selection (maybe a local brew, like Newport Storm or one of Narragansett's better offerings, or even Sam Adams which is now pretty standard), but huge step in the right direction.

No shortage of local breweries to choose from; it can even rotate, or have an RI-only night, etc.
Foolproof (personal favorite), Ravenous, Grey Sail, Tilted Barn, Newport Storm, Whaler's, Revival, and the list goes on.

Foolproof is great. Starting to be able to find it near Boston now. Southern New England is getting better and better. Mass has a few great micros, and Two Roads out of Connecticut is terrific also.

Re: Ryan Center In-Game Experience - Issues and Upgrades
I also hope eventually they can go more local with a few microbrews, but nice to have this option in case time is too tight to stop at a Mews or Rhody Joe's beforehand. The ability to bring more money into the program is the most important aspect of this development, the profit margins on beer are high!
A side benefit is maybe a "Pub" can bring together a common gathering place for discussions of Rhody hoops before the game or at halftime. At least now you can tell someone to meet you there rather than the west side concession area or Section XYZ ("where is that?")
