While true RF1, that hasn't prevented many of these large venue operators from taking a more locally sourced/curated approach to food at arenas all over the country.

As you allude to, all comes down to dollars and cents, and whether our volume even matters enough for them to care about the overall experience.

But they either license the local brands and continue operating it themselves with their own personnel, or they outsource it to the actual mom and pops to operate themselves. These are largely beneficial to the operator I believe, as its usually a break-even proposition for the local restauranteur. They do it for the marketing, while the operator is then able to charge premium prices to maintain margins, with increased volume because its a better product.

I could be wrong but wasn't the food at keaney back in the day supplied by mom and dad shops or was it even the school providing it? There was one stand in the lobby as you first walked in and then a table up on the top level between the 2 stair ramps meet. I like the sound of having more local food in there. That way URI makes money as well as local shops. Sounds too good to be true, must mean why it won't happen.

I like Big Apple's thoughts. The concessions are subpar for a modern arena.

I found this interesting in light of the conversation we've had here about increasing attendance, especially because we've also touched on Michigan football's attendance situation as part of that discussion (can't recall if the entire conversation took place here, or if some of it was in the Schedule thread, but I think it belongs here). There are some parts that aren't that relevant to us (economics of waiting lists, etc.) but the parts that are relevant are super important. This is definitely worth the read if you are at all interested in the subject of attendance, in general or just in relation to URI basketball.

EZ Buckets has explained that they purposely do not attempt to get the shirts to the 300 level due to risk of people leaning over the railing to catch them and the potential to fall.

UCLA or anyone else can add as many student seats as they want. If they don't win, students won't go. That is true everywhere, and that is the point of the article I posted (or one of them, anyways).

*burrows out of off-season hibernation*

Like ATP said above, for safety concerns we simply cannot risk flying t-shirts or mini basketballs up to the 300 section. I can definitely understand it's not ideal for the kids sitting there who attend games but it's done out of an abundance of caution.

However, we do regularly send Ramettes up to the 300 level during the promotion to hand off or toss shirts safely to the crowd seated in the section. I know it may be less exciting and easy to overlook with all the action stemming from the floor during the timeout, but it's definitely better than nothing.

Can't wait to see you all in a few weeks!

I agree with True Point. Kids will go see winning teams vs. nice arenas. Good arenas help but kids need to feel this is the place to be. I was in Pauley about 20 years ago. An odd building, not what I had envisioned. It had virtually no lobby. Seeing UCLA was fun, though.

Yes! I don't even care about the halftime show. I want them there to get the students going. If anybody didn't watch the whole performance, check out the students getting into it when the drumline really gets going, about 3 or 4 minutes in. I think they would be a great addition to the atmosphere!

No idea why, but we definitely should have one. And one thing I'd like to see with banners would be a more historic look to them. Right now, they are all the same, but I'd like to see the logos and colors from each team. For instance, the 1988 banner should look different then the 1998 banner because we no longer used yellow/gold in 1998. I know I'm probably doing a poor job of explaining it. I guess the easiest way to explain it would be I'd like to see URI do what the Bruins did with their Stanley Cup banners.

Clearly, but if people can have a crusade about having names on the back of the jersey, then I'm going to make the look of the banners my crusade. When we put a bunch of them up we're going to want them to look good!

I have learned that there's another improvement coming that I haven't seen announced yet but people have been hoping for in here. The hope is that the improvement will be in place for the early portion of our conference schedule. It's exciting to know that the powers that be are still hard at work to make things better and not just packing it in because the season has already started.

So while back I asked the question about the 1999 A-10 championship banner not being up. Well I talked to a few people the other night at the game and the reason being is Bc of all that Jim Harrick stuff. How they lost scholarships and the banner had to come down. That's the reason I got. Does anyone else know about this. It's kinda a taboo thing to mention up there on campus.
