Jersey, I believe that game was a Veterans Day special played outdoors on an aircraft carrier.

Disregard, I missed Adam’s post where he already explained it.

I wonder if the players played the wind when shooting jump shots?

Now, if they play this game with the ship moving, I’d be impressed.

Should be quite a test for us when we play them. Fortunately, we have time to improve some before we take them on. Hopefully, we are healthy, too.

Great measuring stick game.

Dayton was controlling it most of the way but, UNLV started playing bully ball and Dayton couldn't recover.

Yes I agree, they are a much better team with Malachi Smith on the floor for them.

Also Camara got injured, and only played 12 minutes.

Holmes was not as effective after rolling his ankle early in the game.

VCU loses to ASU 59-63 after being up 11 pts in the 2nd half.

Tough loss without Ace Baldwin in the line-up.
He is one of the top PG in the A10 and was averaging 12 pts (43% 3pt)/ 7 assists over the first 2 games.
He broke his wrist earlier in the week and had a screw inserted.

VCU is probably a bubble team and will need some of these bigger OOC wins.

A10 is a guard oriented league that operates with razor thin margins in the OOC. The below three players could play just about anywhere in the country and are integral parts to our top tier teams.

Malachi Smith
Ace Baldwin
Yuri Collins

It seems like every year high hopes are dashed by way of injuries. This year is no exception with Malachi and Ace both out for an uncertain amount of time. In the Big East, SEC, etc. there's plenty of time to tread water in the OOC and make noise in conference play - our bubble teams don't have that luxury. Could be another highly disappointing year for the A10.

Lots of good action today.

Davidson at Charleston should be interesting.
Charleston coming off a 2-point OT victory over Richmond.
Can Foster Loyer keep up his sizzling pace averaging 28 pts/6 rebs/6 assists?

VCU without Ace needs to beat Pitt.

UMass came close to blowing it but holds on to win 66-63.

Aside from Fernandes leading with 22 points, freshman Luis looked impressive with 18 points.

Enjoyed the post. 104.

Enjoyed the post, 104.

It’s very frustrating for this Rhody fan and therefore, by extension, an A10 fan. These are the games the conference needs to win to make the argument for multiple tourney teams in March. Hopefully, things will break the A10’s way in the coming seasons with all the good coaches in the conference presently - assuming they stay with their schools.

Also, nice to be in a P6 when you can cherry pick from high mid-majors to supplement your starting 5 or build your depth and weakening high mid-majors at the same time. Maybe, in time the exodus to P6 will shift at some point in the future if the good high mid-major players realize it could be better to be a big fish in a small pond than a small fish in a big pond.

Hopefully, high mid-major programs, as the sample size gets larger and larger, are tracking the success (of the players short and long term basketball career success) of the player exodus to P6 schools to formulate a counter argument in favor of the good players stating put.

Sorry for the word salad. Having a tough time formulating and presenting my thoughts today.

Brown defeats Stony Brook, 64-53. Stony Brook had slim lead thru first half, but Brown took control by the 15 min mark in second half leading by as much as 13 points. Also yesterday Army upset Siena in OT in Albany.

Arizona State went in 7.5 underdogs to ranked Michigan in Legends Classic Championship in Brooklyn. Michigan had just dismantled Pittsburgh by 31.
ASU easily blasted Michigan by 25. Desmond Cambridge led Bobby Hurley’s squad with 20. Cambridge played for Brown 2 years, Nevada next 2 then teamed with his brother who transferred from Auburn to join up with ASU this season.

Yes, the upper tier A10 teams really need to step up their game if they expect to get more than 2 teams in the NCAAT.

Loyola of Chicago got plundered by 19 to Tulsa - a bad loss as Tulsa is a bottom feeder in AAC:

American Athletic Conference Preseason Coaches Poll
1 Houston (10) 100
2 Memphis (1) 87
3 Cincinnati 82
4 Tulane 74
5 Temple 66
6 UCF 51
7 SMU 43
8 Wichita State 35
9 South Florida 33

Davidson is not an upper tier team tho. They lost way too much. No A10 team can lose what they lost and stay in upper tier. Same for Richmond. Recency bias has folks regarding them higher than they should be IMO. We’ll see

Plus they lost their HC to retirement.
Opens the door to other A10 teams to surprise.
Maybe either or both of the new $1.8 per year HC’s?

Still I want all the predicted top half A10 teams to have a good performance and avoid these ugly blow outs against not-so-great teams in the OOC.
Yes BAR, but I did think Richmond and Davidson about 5-6.
Right now, I like SLU, Dayton, VCU, and GM in that order.

I always felt the Loyola prediction in the A10 was too high.

Can't believe so many picked them 3rd or even 4th.
Thank you. As I said. The NCAA isn't a barometer of your team - it's luck of matchups/who gets hot. Getting there is all that matters. It's pretty easy to get there in a soft conference like the MVC.

That and Valentine isn't Moser. They're a middle pack A10 team. A good name brand and geographical add to the conference, but the people acting like they were coming in as worldbeaters don't know what they're talking about.
If you say you’re a Rhody fan, I know you are my brother. For you have suffered as I have suffered.
