It was like that for most of the game. N'doye just camped out, and barely got any fouls called on him.

a loosely called game will certainly favor us given our style of play on defense and below average FT shooting.

We wouldn't have gotten away with this style of defense last year. Maybe a small reason as to why our defense is improved this year, but a reason nonetheless.

For Fordham we had:

Bill McCarthy http://statsheet.com/mcb/referees/bill-mccarthy
DJ Carstensen http://statsheet.com/mcb/referees/d-j-carstensen
Tim Kelly http://statsheet.com/mcb/referees/tim-kelly

All familiar faces...

McCarthy also called our games at UMass and Duquense this year... Neither of these games were well officiated.

Carstensen... I cringe when I see this guy. One of the worst and he continued his poor performance last night. He also reffed the Santa Clara game in Orlando.

Kelly had some bad calls last night, including an inadvertent whistle that didn't appear to be inadvertent, and the play where he called the ball off Biruta when he was clearly fouled on the play. He also called the Delaware St. game at home this year.

All 3 performed poorly.

Good to get the W!

I think Carstensen and Kelly were especially bad... Kelly was messing with Hurley at the end when they were reviewing the final call. He was laughing and said something along the lines of "I think I saw a foul and I'll have to wave off the basket." Dan was about to lose it.

For GW we had:

Mark Schnur http://statsheet.com/mcb/referees/mark-shnur
Matt Potter http://statsheet.com/mcb/referees/matt-potter
Tony Crisp http://statsheet.com/mcb/referees/tony-crisp

Matt Potter was the referee that issued me a warning during the Detroit game. We sought each other out prior to the start of the game. We shook hands, high-fived and made up. He's a good guy.

Mark Shnur had a rough night. Many questionable calls.

Tony Crisp, who does not have a very good reputation, actually was pretty invisible tonight. Called a decent game... Have to give him credit. Tony also called to UMass-Lowell game for us earlier this year.

That's correct. I watched the replay of the game when I got home. Potter definitely stepped up to Hurley. Surprising to see a ref get in the face of a coach. Usually the opposite.

Jay, that was a pretty emphatic high-five that you and Potter shared. It was like you were old buddies.

For all the crap that Hurley gets for hounding officials (some deserved), I thought Lonergan was out of control yesterday. After Watanabe got his face raked on a play down low, Lonergan walked Watanabe over to one of the refs to show him his face in a clear move to show him up. I still can't believe that wasn't a tech.

I also noticed several times that when the refs told Hurley to chill out, he kept pointing to the GW bench saying "Why don't you tell them, too?"

The most frustrating part after that Lonergan/Watanabe stuff was that the refs then started calling absolutely everything on us. It was like he showed them up and then they felt bad about it and gave him about 10 minutes worth of make up calls. Not to mention that on the replay you could clearly see there was nothing even there.

Wantabe is a punk. When he his his only 3, he acted like
he just won the NCAAs on that shot.
Act like you've been there before, freshman!
Neil Diamond er, Lonergan was way out of control at one
point and should have been tee'd up.

that should have been a tech but the refs trapped themselves but giving Hurley a warning a few minute before, I truely think if not for that he would have gotten a tech

On one of the fouls, Watanabe was already acting before he ran down the baseline towards TJ I think. And it wasn't even a foul but the refs bought it.

It's good to have goals :)

I have to admit, I didn't really notice him. I know Rhody recruited him for at least a little bit and that he had some nice offensive games before his ankle injury. His defense, though, leaves a lot to be desired.

Called "The Chosen One" in Japan.
I think he can shoot, but he needs to go to
the weight room during the summer.
We had questions as to if we could get him in school,
with the foreign high school grades, which the NCAA clearing house
seems to frown upon.
GW, had no such problem.

I thought they were the worst crew I've seen this season. They were bad both ways . When both coaches get warned it's a sure sign that the refs aren't having a good day. KMac said the ACC and Big East lock up the best refs on Saurdays so the A10 gets what's left.
I have a good view of the visitors bench and Lonergan kept telling the refs to make the URI bench sit down. After the game he barely shook Dan's hand as he flew by. I respect what he's done at GW but not sure I like him

Who did Lonergan want to sit down? The players or a coach? I try not to get too worked up about other coaches, mainly because other fans hate on Hurley without knowing what he's really like, but that seems like a strange thing to concern yourself with when coaching a game.

On the taped replay of the game I caught this, during the end of the game (around 4 minute mark) the camera is on Dan, he says "What the F is he looking at" and he is either talking about Longergan or a Ref. I think it was directed at Longergan who was pointing towards our bench prior to that when arguing with the ref. Would seem to back up the point by Ace above, perhaps tension there. I love Dan, scrappy and tough!

Assistants can't stand during play. Cox was up a lot. That seemed to bother Lonergan. Didn't seem like the coaches liked each other

I know the coach rule. Rhody got called for a technical for it last year or the one before. I'm just not sure I've ever seen an opposing coach make such an effort to point it out. Dan looks like he doesn't like a lot of people when he coaches, but a lot of that goes away when the game is over.

I love his intensity. I really do. I sit directly across from the bench and see his every move. He coaches as if he is actually on the floor playing. Sometimes, he IS actually on the floor during the game. But who gives a rats ass what an opposing coach/fanbase thinks. The guy can coach in game which is ultimately what wins games.

For Richmond we had:

Brian Kersey http://statsheet.com/mcb/referees/brian-kersey
Sean Hull http://statsheet.com/mcb/referees/sean-hull
Tim Clougherty http://statsheet.com/mcb/referees/tim-clougherty

58 fouls called today.. 'Nuff said. Normally you see 35-40 fouls called per game.

Another bench warning today! Let's keep the streak going. Also, that tech on Richmond was an awful call. He bounced the ball hard.. So what?!

Clougherty called our games against PC and St. Bonaventure.

Hull is not a guy we've seen reffing our games. He is an ACC guy.

And finally, Kersey... Our buddy from the VCU game that basically had it out for Hurley from the opening tip.

Let's face it... These guys were pretty bad today.. Fortunately, they were bad both ways.

Mark Schnur http://statsheet.com/mcb/referees/mark-schnur
Brian O'Connell http://statsheet.com/mcb/referees/brian-oconnell
Joe Lindsay http://statsheet.com/mcb/referees/joe-lindsay

Just chalk up a loss for Rhody when Brian O'Connell shows up to ref. Don't even roll the ball out, just head back on the bus and go home.

We are 0-4 in games he has reffed this season.... Georgia Tech, PC, VCU, and now St. Joe's.

For St. Louis:

Tony Crisp http://statsheet.com/mcb/referees/tony-crisp
John Hughes http://statsheet.com/mcb/referees/john-hughes
Mike McCloskey http://statsheet.com/mcb/referees/mike-mccloskey

Didn't matter since we were just the better team on the court yesterday but wow... these guys were awful.

52 fouls, and they continued to call them even within the last few minutes when the game was in hand for Rhody. Let 'em play!

Crisp and Hughes are typically awful.. They didn't disappoint yesterday.

Hughes also called our loss at UMass. Crisp also had our game against GW and UMass Lowell.

I almost puked when I saw Hughes walk on the court during the pre game warmups. He is beyond bad and has been for years. Thank goodness it was not a close game because one of his calls could have impacted the game either way. He belongs doing games in Bryant's league or America East which is where he usually performs.

We have a big game Wednesday between two pretty good teams.

Let's hope the A10 assigns halfway competent refs for this one.

And yes, they [the A10] knows who's good and who isn't, even though they would never admit it.

Ed Corbett http://statsheet.com/mcb/referees/ed-corbett
Tim Kelly http://statsheet.com/mcb/referees/tim-kelly
Tony Chiazza http://statsheet.com/mcb/referees/tony-chiazza

Awful... both ways.

Ed Corbett - also called LaSalle and Delaware St games for us. We are 3-0 when he refs our games.
Tim Kelly - called Fordham and Delaware St games for us also. We are also 3-0 when he refs our games but he sure does try to make it a mess of things out there. He and Hurley were going at it early. Another bench warning!
Tony Chiazza - also called Brown game for us. 2-0 with Tony on the court.
