Re: Mike Powell
The only difference this will make is whether or not he will be sitting in the last chair on the bench. Unless you have some really strong feelings towards that specific chair, I'm not sure its worth worrying about. (nothing against the chair, I am sure its a lovely chair)

Re: Mike Powell
No, you won't see Mike Powell with the team. He's attending school to finish his degree. He is fortunate to use his scholarship to pay for school this year in turn for the APR benefit to the program.
This is a player who quit on the team, asked for and was granted his release. No way is he "back on the team". Mike is lucky the APR situation is what it is.

Re: Mike Powell
I mentioned the roster on GoRhody because Hare was left on the roster all through last season because he was a scholarship player, even though he wasn't with the team.

Re: Mike Powell
Hare was more an excused absence from team activities, which is almost exactly what the official word was all season. His scholarship and roster status were never altered. Door was left open as we have now learned since his public return.
Mike Powell's use of the 13th scholarship to complete his degree is considered more beneficial than any other option at this time.

Re: Mike Powell
Just wondering.....if Mike Powell, who quit the team, is still on scholarship, why isn't Mike Aaman still on scholarship?

Re: Mike Powell
He is, in a way. If Mike A chooses to stay at URI, his education is covered. Medical ineligibility, which is his current status, can be treated differently.Billyboy78 wrote:Just wondering.....if Mike Powell, who quit the team, is still on scholarship, why isn't Mike Aaman still on scholarship?

Re: Mike Powell
So what happens now if Mike Aaman is cleared to play? I'm seeing on twitter where he is tearing up courts in Jersey.

Re: Mike Powell
He will never be cleared to play college ball again given his history of multiple concussions. No school would ever want to assume the risk.Ram Stampede!!! wrote:So what happens now if Mike Aaman is cleared to play? I'm seeing on twitter where he is tearing up courts in Jersey.

Re: Mike Powell
I doubt doctors would say "His URI playing days are over" unless they were 100% sure. That's pretty definitive.

Did we ever get the full story on what happened to Mike?

Re: Mike Powell
I'm not sure there is much mystery to it. His playing time got cut, he quit the team. The End.

Re: Mike Powell
WTF! Can anyone make up their mind on this guy?
He's leaving. He's staying. He's leaving, He's staying. He's leaving.
He's not on the team. He's on the team. He's not on the team.
What a mess!
Does that mean APR is fine with him leaving?
Does it hurt the APR with him leaving?
Can we bring in a fifth year player?

Re: Mike Powell
In general, requests to transfer are made and are then either denied or approved, outright or provisionally so (often an academic issue). Players usually stay on their scholarships for the academic year even when they've asked for a release to transfer. In this case, if he's been officially released, that's probably a good thing for all involved.

Re: Mike Powell
That they granted releases to Powell and Aaman I would take as meaning that the APR can handle both of them leaving.
It will be a hard sell for Powell. A school will have to use two years of scholarships on him to get one year of play.

Re: Mike Powell
they won't hurt the APR if they are on track to graduate when they leave (I believe seeing this in all the APR guidelines)
