That's a pretty good list -Xavier, Va. Tech, S. Carolina, Pitt (visit scheduled), and us. Let's get a visit next!

To state the obvious, David Cox is very good at his job.
Not sure if it's in one of the above articles, but I read that he's taken unofficials to Xavier and Virginia Tech.

According to Twitter, Marshall is visiting June 30th. For what it's worth, he seems to be the highest ranked of those they're most involved with (with mutual interest).

Summer session 2 starts on Monday, so Marshall's fellow DC guys will be there already. Now to get Quickley, although I hear that Calipari is following him all over the world...

Re: '17 DC SF - Naji Marshall (Offer)
I like being in the closer's position in Marshall's recruitment. He's visited the other 4 schools on his list, seen their facilities and listened to their recruiting pitches.
He's familiar with Coach Cox and there's 3 DMV area players on the roster he probably knows personally.
I'm optimistic.

Marshall was a senior this past year and is expected to attend Hargrave for a reportedly academically necessary postgrad year. Enjoy your visit, Naji!

Where's the excitement for this kid? He's ranked somewhere around where Terrell was ranked in high school. And I think we had a record number of pages on Jared. Big visit today.

Agreed, doesn't seem to be much love here for Marshall who is the highest rated recruit that we are involved with. Aside from his top 5 of us, Pitt, South Carolina, VA Tech and Xavier, Georgetown keeps trying to stay involved with him and Maryland has shown interest. Here's hoping his visit goes well.

Re: '17 DC SF - Naji Marshall (Offer)
I think a huge difference is where the program was at the time. Jared was the guy that would give us the three headed monster that should get us over the hump, where Naji would keep the talent line moving. Also, Jared was the highest ranked recruit we had been involved with in quite a while as far as I remember, so it created extra buzz. And let's not forget, there were two stages to Jared's recruiting.
Perfect day for a visit though. Sunny and upper 70's? Hell I wish I was visiting Kingston today!

Re: '17 DC SF - Naji Marshall (Offer)
True. But this is an important year for recruiting. I'm not saying last year's class of Thompson and Akele was a bad class. But, it definitely wasn't the quality of the previous two years. This year's freshman class is still TBD as far as quality goes. We need to replace the studs that will be leaving with a couple of new studs.RhowdyRam02 wrote:I think a huge difference is where the program was at the time. What probably helps is that Jon Rothstein is due on campus today as well. Can't hurt to have a kid like this see the national eyeballs the program is getting.

Per Corey Evans today on HoopSeen.com...
"...top-50 wing Naji Marshall will take an unofficial visit to Rhode Island today, sources told HoopSeen.com. The DC Premier product would be a fabulous commitment for any of the five in pursuit due to his scoring prowess and defensive versatility."

Re: '17 DC SF - Naji Marshall (Offer)
http://www.scout.com/college/basketball ... performersOne of the most versatile players in the nation, Naji Marshall was tremendous all week long for DC Premier in Georgia. Marshall isn’t an elite scorer, but he is capable of putting the ball in the basket, and then he does everything else at an extremely high level.
Marshall showed the ability to really get to the rim, and then he made several nice decisions passing the basketball as well. At a legit 6-foot-5, he can play the point forward role, or be someone who makes plays off the bounce. With his unique skillset he is able to play in a multitude of ways, and even could be a small ball power forward if needed because of his ability to really rebound the basketball.
Though his team had a disappointing finish to the event, Marshall was still extremely impressive, and showed why so many schools are making him a priority as we head to the end of the month of July.
Recruiting: The schools tracking Marshall the most are Xavier, South Carolina, Virginia Tech, Rhode Island, and Pittsburgh.

I'm afraid that Marshall might be blowing up too much. He's our highest rated recruit and might be going higher.

Re: '17 DC SF - Naji Marshall (Offer)
The alternative is URI's early targets end up sucking in the summer period so nobody else any good recruits them.
Which would you prefer?
Player shows he's legit or player shows he's not as good as once thought.

Re: '17 DC SF - Naji Marshall (Offer)
There's a difference between showing you're legit and blowing up. I'm talking about recruiting a kid for 2 years, then blowing up a month before he makes a decision. A P5 school swoops in and recruits him for 3 weeks. I know it's the reality of being a mid major. It just pisses me off, a lot of wasted time and money.PlayMikeMotenMore wrote:The alternative is URI's early targets end up sucking in the summer period so nobody else any good recruits them.

Re: '17 DC SF - Naji Marshall (Offer)
Keep in mind this kid is going to Hargrave, a major prep school in Virginia. Getting a commitment would be great, but there's going to be a LOT of high major coaches at those workouts in the fall. A wandering eye is always an issue when a kid is surrounded by elite recruiters.

RR: N/A
Ht: 6'5"
Wt: 200 lbs
Class: 2017

POSITION

Commitment status:
UNDECIDED
Recruiting wrap: Xavier, Virginia Tech, South Carolina, Rhode Island and Pittsburgh were the schools he said are recruiting him the hardest.
Performance: The four-star small forward is just a very productive player. As a scorer, he gets the majority of his points attacking the basket and finishing or going to the free throw line after drawing contact. He’s a much better shooter than this time last year, but still needs to improve. He’s great on the boards and also a very good passer.

I think it's safe to say that his final 5 is no longer his final 5. When a local school like Maryland shows interest, obviously he's going to listen.

Re: '17 DC SF - Naji Marshall (Offer)
It's not wasted time and money. It's called recruiting. You can't sign everyone you recruit. And you can't recruit everyone. But you can't catch any fish if you don't cast your net in the water. You think it's any different if Siena, UVM, and James Madison are on a kid...and then URI swoops in to recruit the kid for a month? That's college recruiting.Billyboy78 wrote:There's a difference between showing you're legit and blowing up. Sooner or later one of these kids will select us even when he blows up and the big schools come calling.....it will have to be a special kid to do that however....the more sustained success we have the sooner it will happen...

We sure could use a great finisher at the hoop. EC is our best at that, but will he be as good as before, at least early on?

Who knows about EC, though have a hard time understanding what that has to do with Naji Marshall since he will be playing high school games during the early part of our upcoming season.

It was posted at 3:14 yesterday....
But, he just posted his final 7 schools on twitter. He added Maryland and TCU to his previously announced final 5.
I post from my cell phone so I'm unable to post a copy of his 2 tweets concerning recruiting. Perhaps someone else can.

Agree, this Friday would indicate to me someone he is either very familiar with and he had made his decision some time ago or a newcomer and he is seeing his name in lights. Given he just revised his list you would have to guess its the local guys.
Either way likely not a good ending for us.
