With Butts now committed, does Dan Hurley do what he did with Terrell last year and just follow Mann around the AAU circuit all summer and make Mann his clear number one priority???

Obviously a long way away from anything definite happening with Mann's recruitment, but what a kick in the balls that would be!

Having relocated to South County with his Mom, I'm sure he's seen a lot of what the area has to offer. It's good that he gets the chance to see the wonderfulness that is "Friar Nation!" (Tongue is firmly in cheek for those that thing I'm speaking positively about the team to the north.)

I wonder why Mann keeps dropping down the rankings? Any thoughts? As we know rankings don't mean all that much in the end.

Re: '15 MA SG Terance Mann (Offer)
I would not be so concerned about Mann's (or any player's) ranking now.
Most important to ranking for elite players is the upcoming Championship for EYBL in mid July at the Peach Jam in South Carolina. Top 24 Teams 17U and the Top 16 Teams for 16U. High Percentage of the D1 Coaches plus Assistants attend this every year. URI Staff always attends.
Some Players of Interest for URI on Teams that have Qualified for 17U:
BABC (Boston) Terrance Mann, Bruce Brown
Team Final (Pa) Levan Alston, Ahmad Gilbert
CIA Bounce (Canada) Dillon Brooks
Team Scan (NYC) Tyus Battle
Boston based Elite Expressions did not qualify this year.
From recent interview with Mann on June 16th:
http://www.d1circuit.com/news_article/s ... _id=790853
AK: How's recruitment going so far? Anyone on the top of your list?
TM: Nothing new (after the regular season). No one is currently at the top of my list, I'll probably make my decision mid-fall. I'll have visits in August, but haven't scheduled any yet.
AK: What would you say is the biggest deciding factor? Academics? Playing time? Coach?
TM: All of the above.

Tyus Battle? He's of interest to everyone, like Louisville, Kentucky, etc.
Lamar Stevens plays for 16U Team Final, too.

And Georgetown no longer seems involved. Don't underestimate that on these rankings. A lot of them are tied to the schools pusuing them.

From sources close he has no interest in G'town, didn't like his visit. Any decision making from him is a long ways away IMO.

Would be great news indeed if his G'Town visit went poorly. Gotta think that we'll always be a dark horse candidate in his recruitment, given the access that Hurley will have to him.

The challenge for the staff is it won't be easy to recruit another guard when you have three talented young guards.

Re: '15 MA SG Terance Mann (Offer)
We have 6 scholarship guards and 6 scholarship forwards, I don't see why Mann wouldn't be able to get significant PT in a system that will be geared towards a three guard offense. Four guys (Mathews, Mann, Terrell, and Garrett) to fill those three spots in 2015 sounds good to me.

Exactly, sell the 3 guard system, 120 minutes for 4 guards = average of 30 minutes/game per guard. And yes, I know they won't be going 3 guard for entire games, but the recruits don't need to be told that part...

It seems Dan's dream scenario are 3 dynamic and athletic guards that can score in a variety of ways and defend their position, a stretch 4 and a banger at the 5. Getting closer, that "banger" or bruising interior presence is what we are missing.

Could recruit it, or could develop it. We do have a couple candidate in house but they all have a long way to go to be the ideal guy.

Watson looks like a banger. He's a big kid. But I'm guessing he's not big enough to play the 5? I still have no idea on Watson's game. He's the only player on the team I haven't seen play.bigappleram wrote:It seems Dan's dream scenario are 3 dynamic and athletic guards that can score in a variety of ways and defend their position, a stretch 4 and a banger at the 5. I apologize in advance if this has been covered already, but would Mann tie up a scholarship if he committed to URI? Since his mother is an employee, would he get a full ride?

Like past players, he would not count as a scholarship. However, as we've also seen with past players, it can complicate matters when it comes to roster construction if something were to happen with the parent's employment status.Section104 wrote:I apologize in advance if this has been covered already, but would Mann tie up a scholarship if he committed to URI? http://www.newenglandrecruitingreport.c ... rising.phpMann also impressed, earning praise from Scout.com’s Evan Daniels who called Mann’s performance in the tournament finals an “eye-opening outing and an inspiring effort.”
Francisco also noted Mann in his recap for ESPN.com equating the rising Tilton senior to the “best glue guy” in the field.

Re: '15 MA SG Terance Mann (Offer)
This was said elsewhere about Mann regarding some of the inconsistencies in his ranking, and I think there's some truth to it. This July period is all about reassessing the guys you've put energy into watching to see if they're still a good fit; not a good fit doesn't mean not a good player.Seawrightspostgame wrote:I think it's because he has the "glue guy" tag.
I thought this was a pretty good write-up on him, with a relevant point at the end. BC and PC are sending a lot of looks his way, though.

Terance Mann/6’5 BABC 2015
Mann has been known for being able to really fill it up on the scoreboard, however he primarily acted as a facilitator with the ball in his hands on Friday as the long and well-mannered kid got it done with the ball in his hands. He isn’t super-fast and doesn’t blow you away with anything other than his size, yet he gets the job done on the floor, doesn’t turn it over, and makes good reads with the rock in his hands whenever he is attacking off of the hesitation dribble. Whichever programs gains ahold of the rising senior, of whom his mother is a coach on the URI women’s staff, should be excited to gain ahold of such a giant ceiling in 2015.
2015 Terance Mann has become a priority New England region recruit, but spoke briefly on the fact that he may want to get outside of the area for his college ball.

Re: '15 MA SG Terance Mann (Offer)
So, we're supposed to throw up our hands and let BC and PC grab him?
Makes no sense. He'd be an ideal swingman here.
If he wants to go outside of New England, that's another matter.

Re: '15 MA SG Terance Mann (Offer)
In general, schools prioritize players differently, doesn't mean they've given up on a recruiting battles. Specifically, this staff has beaten out both PC and BC before, so they're not put off of the fight. Mann seems great, but he's not the only answer- and that's without the other situational factors.

Just talking about him.
I think it would be huge to keep him here with his various local ties(obviously his mom, his AAU team, New England).

Re: '15 MA SG Terance Mann (Offer)
I wonder if there is an angle to his recruiting that goes something like.....
Stay at home with your family, get developed by DH. Right into the trail he has that the St B's guys blazed.
EC is clearly the model so far.
I just think Uri and DH can give a more stable environment/more likely road for Mann to reach his ceiling.
He's considered really good but does a lot. On a team like Kansas or one of these blue bloods, he won't get the chance to handle the ball and be all things to the team. Top teams want guys that fill a role. Here he can flourish as a do everything star. Along with the stability of home.
