Re: Slightly OT
Panreatic cancer.
Timeline from diagnosis to the end was only a few months.
Great guy. Hard to believe he's gone.

Re: Slightly OT
Best of luck Rod. Several years ago my wife had a blockage from a gall stone and was in the hospital for a month before surgery to remove gall bladder and a portion of the pancreas, then was in and out of the hospital for the next 4 months whenever the pain would increase. Oh, and the drains attached to her midsection to allow for fluid drainage during that whole time were not comfortable.
Thank goodness your daughter does not need to be hospitalized immediately, good luck during the tests. The pancreas is a nebulous organ and doctors have many different opinions whether surgery or rest with minimal solid food intake are the best options. In our case they first recommended the latter then still needed the former...

Re: Slightly OT
Thanks, Ruckus and all of those who've posted their well wishes and prayers.
Ruckus, what you describe is similar to what seems to be happening to my daughter.
If the procedure can be done othroscopically, then the drains and longer healing time, will
be avoided. They aren't going to wait very long to operate. It's still a dicey, any way you look at it.
She was up for a managerial position at the company she works for.
She's a bit down, because this episode will sideline her for a bit, and the position will be filled.
However, her health is more important in the big picture.
She's only 26 years old, and jobs and promotions will come in time.

Re: Slightly OT
Rod,
Best of luck to you, your daughter, and your family.
We may not always agree, but you are a great fan, and come across as having the values of a good person.
I wish you and the family nothing but the best in this tough situation, and if your daughter has any of the gusto you illustrate on this board, she'll make it through tougher and stronger than ever.

Re: Slightly OT
Well, Andrea is home, resting and waiting for her surgery
date.
She has to be on a very bland diet, which runs counter to my
usual cooking around here. We'll manage. LOL!

Re: Slightly OT
Surgery is now scheduled in two weeks. It's so bad that she
wanted the surgery to get done sooner, to get on with her life.
Got a very nice letter from Don and Caroline Kaull , in today's mail,
asking how Andrea was doing.
What wonderful, classy people they are.

We'll continue to pray for her. My wife and daughter both had gall bladder surgery and are fine today. Let's hope that Andrea's outcome is as good.

It's also exploratory, in that they want to see the damage to the pancreas,
and arteries.

Re: Slightly OT
Well, today is the day of my daughter's surgery.
Hopefully they repair and/or remove whatever has been
the problem.
I'm holding down the fort with the kids, waiting for updates from the hospital,
and using KB to take my mind off of things.

Re: Slightly OT
Thanks, all. She's still in surgery.
They are doing an arthroscopic procedure, but if they
can't do what they need to do, or find some other things wrong,
they may have to resort to a larger conventional surgery.
I'm hoping that's not the case.

Re: Slightly OT
I know. I brainwashed her at a very early age to be a Ram fan.
She went to URI Basketball camp when she was ten years old.
Met coaches and players and people around the program, since.
Everyone has been very nice to her.
Now, I'm working on my granddaughters to be mini-Rams.
Hopefully, they will be with me at the Rhody Joe's event in June.

Rod just saw this glad everything worked out. I'm sure everything will be fine my motto is good things come to people who do good. If she's like you I'm sure she has plenty good things to use in exchange for her recovery. I Hope she recovers quick. I have two kids and they run me ragged. Would hate to see a downturn in posts from the sites leading poster.

Re: Slightly OT
Nah! I escape to this when they are doing their kid's stuff.
They're my job. I'm cook, laundryman, chauffer, tutor, and body guard
all rolled into one. It's a weird second chance at parenthood later in life.
After being a single dad for over a decade, I used to call myself, Mr.Mom.
So does this now make me Mr. Grandma? Hmmmmm???????????
This board is kind of my only adult contact during the day, so it's probably more
important to me than most.
Just don't tell anyone that.....

Well, the brat is now home. Operation went very well, and nothing
was found out of the ordinary.
This arthroscopic stuff is amazing.
My thanks to everyone for their good wishes and prayers. It's been
pretty scary at times.
Also, great thanks to Andrea and Dan Hurley for their wonderful
Edible Arrangement that got here today, and Andrea's offer to help with the girls. Very generous and
much appreciated!
Very special people, for sure.
