@ Richmond Jan. 14
Since there isn't any coverage anywhere of our Lady Rams - even in ProJo - I figured I'd take a stab.
This appears to be a likely L today. We'r
URI is coming off an unimpressive loss at Loyola where we trailed the entire game. Meanwhile Richmond is 14-3, 4-0 in A10 play, and has 4 double digit scorers. 6'2" F Maggie Doogan averages 16.3/5.1, 6'1" G Rachel Ullstrom is 12.1/4.4, 5'5" G Grace Townsend is 11.9/4.5/5.0 and 6'2" F Addie Budnik is 11.8/4.2.
Doogan and Ullstrom are both sophomores and phenomenal shooters. Doogan shoots 53.3/40.5/83.3 and Ullstrom is 53.4/45.3/81.1, and at home those numbers are even higher. Townsend and Budnik are almost as good shooters, and as a team the numbers are equally impressive: 47.6/38/76.5.
Compare those numbers to ours. Maye Toure is 13.1/7.6, Sophie Phillips is 12.7/1.2, Teisha Hyman is 11.9/6.6, and Dee Dee Davis is 8.9/2.5. Toure shoots 44.2/31.3/61.4, Phillips is 39.2/36.4/64, Hyman is 35.6/14.8/64.3 and Davis is 39.5/16.2/65.8. Team numbers are 40/29.5/65.8. The only area we lead is rebounds, 39.1 to 33.9. And no word on whether our rebounding and defensive leader Anaelle Dutat is eligible to play or Tenin Magassa has recovered from her shoulder injury.
Only way we win today is with lockdown D and better shooting. Tipoff is at Noon on CBSSN. GO LADY RAMS!!

Ledden, showing some rebounding prowess.
Why was she up there all this time?

Richmond up 9.
They have left Townsend all alone at the top of the arch for all three of her made three pointers. Not a single player defending her, each time.

32-23 Richmond @ 4:42 in Q2 in a 3-point shootout. Richmond 5-12, Rhody 4-9. Outrebounded so far 15-9 but winning turnovers 10-7.

Re: @ Richmond Jan. 14
7-0 URI run helped get the score to 34-30 Richmond. Richmond with the last bucket of the half to get it to 36-30.

Re: @ Richmond Jan. 14
Bad drive by Debroise in last possession. Unlike Townsend - who's leading scorer at the half with 15 - she's not a finisher.

Re: @ Richmond Jan. 14
Yeah, she's one of those players that Tammi holds in high regard, but just doesn't get it done on gameday.
Must be a practice demon.

Re: @ Richmond Jan. 14
Rhody actually outshooting Richmond from 3 - 40% to 29.4%. Richmond has taken 17 to Rhody's 10.

Re: @ Richmond Jan. 14
Komara has been, by and large, a pleasant surprise, taking up some of the rebounding that Dutat would normally provide.
Magassa is probably not ready to return. She got a shot blocked on her, and some of her passes have been very errant.

I really would have liked to see more of Ledden, but you know, I guess we would rather have DeBroise and Vital on the floor at the same time. So, numbers game.

Re: @ Richmond Jan. 14
Impressive that Rhody is still in the game despite missing Dutat and Magassa limited due to injury. Toure is aggressively calling for the ball and has 11 at the half. Phillips with 9 on 3 3's, Hyman and Davis with 5.

Re: @ Richmond Jan. 14
They started keying in on Townsend after allowing her three uncontested treys in a row, and Townsend started to get cold of her own volition as well.
They need to continue to do that second half.

Our bench is scoreless, but so is Richmond's. Need a big second half from Toure and our 3 starting guards.

Re: @ Richmond Jan. 14
Hill ran over Dee Dee and Hill and Townsend shared a good laugh at Dee Dee's expense.
I hope Dee Dee is able to pay them back.

Re: @ Richmond Jan. 14
Townsend killing us inside - 19 points. Had the lead down to 3 but 3 quick easy buckets on poor defense brings it back to 9.

Re: @ Richmond Jan. 14
A lot of wasted trips down the court recently by URI, coming up emptyhanded

Re: @ Richmond Jan. 14
We're giving up too many easy baskets. Definitely missing Dutat and a healthy Magassa.

Re: @ Richmond Jan. 14
DeBroise running in full speed for a layup is a wasted play. They still have her listed as 1 turnover, but she has done that now a couple of times and the Spiders get the rebound easily. They credited Hill with the block on the last one, so how is that not a turnover?

Re: @ Richmond Jan. 14
They miss Dolly Cairns. They miss Madison Hattix-Covington. They miss Emma Squires.
But, I think the one they really miss the most this year is Sayawni Lassiter. Who knew when we were watching those games last year, that we were watching the best point guard we were going to see for a while?
The grad players and the backup PG from last year haven't filled the gaps, and two of the three of the most heralded freshman class in program history barely see the floor.

2 of Richmond's best players are Sophomores, 1 is a Junior.
We have Phillips as a Junior. That's it for our top undergrads. Pretty discouraging.

Sorry but there are at least 3 teams better than us right now in the A10. The roster construction and player development for the program is underwhelming.

Re: @ Richmond Jan. 14
No chance to win when you have to foul a team shooting 93.8% from the line.

Re: @ Richmond Jan. 14
Phillips hits 2 free throws to make it a 2-point game. Rhody fouls with 17 2 seconds left.

Re: @ Richmond Jan. 14
Pretty consistent game. Can get within 2, but can go no further.
Valiant effort without Dutat. However, there is just too much nonsense going on out there. DeBroise driving for layups she knows she can't get, etc.
Magassa looks injured, but in honesty, she has never looked as good this year as she did last year when she was just Toure's backup, at any point in time. And they tell us she was injured last year...
Davis and Hyman are fair players, but not quite what they were advertised to be pre season.
Toure is left to have to do too much, with too few supporting cast players around her. Former A10 Player of the Year, reduced to this. This should have been the year where she was simply adding the finishing touches to her resume.

Grace Townsend comes up big - all 5' 5" of her - with 26 points and 7 rebounds.

Re: @ Richmond Jan. 14
If we had that Grace Townsend on this team, since the beginning of the year, this team would be an at large team.

Re: @ Richmond Jan. 14
I'm a broken record on this, but you have to question Tammi's roster construction and player development. Phillips is our only good undergrad. Both of our highly touted freshmen barely see the court while two grad transfers take all of their minutes. I don't see a path to sustained excellence with this approach.jcru wrote: ↑3 months ago Pretty consistent game. Can get within 2, but can go no further.
