1/2 | George Mason | 6 pm (ESPN+)

Unread post by RhowdyRam02 »

In just about an hour and a half the 9-5 (1-0) Rams will continue their A10 schedule against 10-2 (1-0) George Mason. Last year we beat them on their home court 57-53.

Senior guard Sonia Smith leads the Patriots with 13.3 points per game and 37 assists this season, but also has the most turnovers with 30. Sophomore forward Zahirah Walton is second with 10.8 points per game. Senior forward Nalani Kaysia leads the team in rebounds per game with 6. Sophomore forward Nekhu Mitchell leads them with 19 steals. Graduate center Jazmyn Doster has the most blocks with 6.

We hold a 6-4 series edge, including a current winning streak of four.

Massey Ratings gives the #94 (#79 NET) Rams a 77% chance of beating the #108 (#82 NET) Patriots, with a projected final of 65-56

Curious on the status of Magassa and Toure', if they will be available.

34-32 Rhody at the half. Much better offense as Rhody outscores GM 25-15.

Toure looks about 80% out there. Still a little gimpy.

There was nearly an identical scenario in the 2nd quarter as what happened in St. Louis. She was trying to grab a defensive rebound and an offensive player was snaking around her legs a bit and then they called a foul on Toure. Toure took exception and really wanted the official to hear whatever it was she was trying to say. You can tell she is acutely aware of that scenario after last game.

URI just let Mason have a 7-0 run, to put them up ahead 5 pts. At least Tammi called the quick time out after the last steal/break/layup.

Why are the URI announcers so annoying? They get more excited when Mason makes a play than when we do.

I feel like Rhody Vault is calling the game. lol

DeBroise always flirting with another travel call. Hopping and skipping and stutter stepping down the court, then acts like she's surprised when she gets called.

Our postgrad guards came up big to seal the deal. Love how tenacious this team is! They were down for much of the game but.kept battling back. More than a dozen ties and lead changes, and Rhody was even down 5 with 6.26 left in the 4th.

Great shooting numbers tonight:

- 43.1% overall
- 50% from 3 (Phillips 6 for 9)
- 81.3% free throws

Outrebounded 38-31. Hyman led with 8, Dutat with just 3 for the night.GM bench is strong as advertised with 27 points to our 9. We won turnover battle 13 to 18. Strong D throughout and when it mattered most.

Dee Dee Davis dribbled into traffic and put up a bad shot, Davis then did the same thing again with a bad, forced shot and then she threw a bad pass that was stolen. George Mason scored after each of those Dee Davis plays for 7 straight points.
As soon as GMU scored on Dee Dee's Turnover Reiss immediately called timeout and put Debroise in. Debroise did a good job as URI got 6 points back very fast.

The GMU bench was lively, loud and stood up a lot throughout the game. In contrast, the URI bench was quiet, rarely stood up and seemed quite the opposite of the GMU bench.

Great observation ramster. I couldn't get to the game so I watched on cable. GM's bench is much deeper and more skilled and experienced than ours. But no Magassa and a hobbled Toure didn't help. Also Dutat - who emerged as an offensive force against St. Louis - only took 3 shots tonight. Given all that tonight's win was even more impressive.

I thought Touré looked normal to me tonight, however Tammi said in post game presser that Toure was 60-70%
Toure only played 25 minutes but that was because she fouled out
She was calling for the ball in Q1 and wasn’t getting it passed her way. Seemed to get frustrated with the GMU defensive pressure causing some of the fouls
Komora played 15 minutes because of Toure’s foul situation. Maybe fatigue and the injury recovery led to the foul trouble as well.

Dutat was efficient 2-3 FG, 3R, 2 assists, 2 steals, 2 blocks. She played a team hi 37 minutes along with Phillips and Hyman. Not Dutat’s best rebounding game but she was key on defense against a strong GMU team.

Reiss shortened the rotation.

DeChent, Vital and Ledden did not see any playing time.

Dutat’s playing time has been a real head scratcher for me. After Playing a season low 6 minutes at PC Tammi has turned to Dutat in a big way. Dutat has played the most total minutes on the team ever since the PC Game. She went from just 6 minutes vs PC to Starting the past 5 games.
Minutes last 5 games as starter:
At St John’s - 34
Lemoyne - 28
Harvard - 35
At St Louis - 35
GMU - 37

50% from 3P but 6-9 Phillips, rest went 1-5.

Plus side Sophie has gotten stronger, more physical and better able to get her shot off under pressure this season. GMU played her tough but she still went 6-9

Worrisome from a post season standpoint is depth of Guard 3P shooting proficiency (beyond Sophie):

Phillips 40.0%
Hyman 23.1%
Davis 16.7%
Debroise 11.1%

DeChent is 5-13 for 38.5% but DNP vs GMU
