Games of Interest - 2023-2024 MBB

Interested to see how Christ Essandoko does for St Joseph's tonight as the Hawks host Lafayette

Essandoko is the 7' 285lb center who originally signed with PC but then changed his mind and went with St Joseph's. He has lost about 50 pounds over the past year or so

At the recent St Joe at PC Secret Scrimmage Essandoko had 25 points and 15 rebounds in the 3 point loss to the Fryuzz.

Essandoko was in a boot. DNP.

Yes Ramster, Essandoko could be a difference maker for them.
The have size upfront with another 7-footer (265 ibs) Coleman, and Flemmng (6'9"/ 230).
(F) Klaczek (6'8"/225) returns and started 21 games last season.

Them along with a backcourt of Reynolds, Brown, and Greer could make the Joe's dangerous this season.

Wow. Davidson is losing to a team that sounds like a 70s duo. They better straighten out, I think they’re playing Hall and Oats next.

Richmond could also surprise this season.
Their backcourt transfer duo of all-conference players had a good game, King with 34 pts and Hunt with 15 pts.
7-foot center Quinn had 10 rebs/7 assists.

With both La Salle and UMass winning their home openers tonight, the A-10 goes 13-1 with only Loyola Chicago yet to open its season. The Ramblers do that tomorrow night as they host #10 Florida Atlantic.

VCU of all teams decides to lay an egg.

That loss could very easily ruin any shot they have at an at-large.

Loyola/Chicago opening up against #9/10 FAU.
This game will be played at the Wintrust Arena (McCormick Place Event Center) in Chicago,

Surprisingly FAU only opened up as a 5.5 favorite. over/under is 142.
Somehow, I doubt the Ramblers can keep it that close.

I’d have to watch him again but at first glance it did seem like he changed his mechanics. He had a really unorthodox release point at Rhody and I didn’t notice that last night. If so that would greatly improve his effectiveness, good for him regardless. That was always the level he should have been at.

I agree PRT, FAU is loaded this season.
They have experience, talent, and depth, what is there not to like?

Just looking at both teams, Loyola/Chicago will be lucky to even keep this game close.

Vegas is rarely wrong and if they are not by much so I would expect this game plays pretty close.

In terms of FAU there is a tendency to overhype Cinderella teams the following season. A lot went right for FAU last year people forget they nearly lost their first game in tourney. I don’t see them repeating what they did last year. Top 35-40 sure but they aren’t a Top 10 team this year (where they have been ranked by some in preseason).

He had a few double digit games for us last year, and got 16 one game, so a game like this was possible from him. The problem is his shot form is so bad there will never be consistency with his scoring. Like you said though, good for him

They are a bit different than most Cinderella teams though don't you think?

What other Cinderella's brought back their entire coaching staff and their starting five? They were also 35-4 so they pretty much had taken care of business all year.

Same team that beat Tennessee in the sweet 16. A Tennessee team that had the best defense in the county that had just pulverized Duke and took out K-State with Keyontae Johnson and Marquis Nowell. Heck they should have beaten SDSU, blew a 14 point lead and led the entire game until the end.

Probably won't make it back to the final four, but saying they'll be 35-40 is silly to me.

You never know BAR.
FAU had a great year, they won 35 games while going 18-2 in C-USA and winning the regular season and the conference championship.
They beat a lot of quality teams in the NCAAT and only lost by 1 point in the Final Four.
They are no joke and won't catch anyone by surprise this season.

If Loyola/Chicago gives them a good game, to me it says more about Loyola being better than most here think, which is good for the A10.

I don't know - last year during the season I recall pundits saying during the season people were too distracted with Charleston and their win streak but that FAU was the real top mid-major. FAU is a legit top-20 team at least.

Many good points on FAU all around. It maybe cliche’ but I suspect they aren’t as good as top 10 and not as low as 25 so, they are probably somewhere in between.

Don’t forget also that they are the hunted this season vs being the hunter. They won’t sneak up on anyone; teams will be psyched to take them down.

Good stuff.

Another game of interest is Arizona State/ Miss. State in Chicago (Wintrust Arena/Barstool Invitational) right after the Loyola/FAU game.
Bobby Hurley took ASU to the 2nd round of the NCAAT last season.
Miss. State lost to Pitt by 1 point in the '23 NCAAT, they are in the HOF Tip-Off/ Mohegan Sun.
Miss. State favored by 3.5 points.
