This is a big game.

There are worse times to go to Orono then Sept 16. If you were going to go, this would be the year to do it.

Last time I went to Orono, was the Stowers year, it was the third week of October and my face got so windburnt on one side from North-South winds and below zero windchill, wearing three hoodies, I looked like the character two-face from batman.

Sept 16 should be bearable at least. Wouldn't surprise me if it was crazy windy still, however.

Hurricane Lee may affect Eastern New England this weekend. Maine could be especially hard hit as it may be close to the path.

I live just north of Portland and once rain stops will head out to my sailboat in Casco Bay and bring in my dingy. Will deal with canvas later in week depending on forecast.
Came down to URI in the fall of 1962 from Maine as a freshman. The first year I often hitchhiked back to Maine for holiday breaks. Had reasonable success. Later I would get rides from fraternity brothers. Going back I took the bus to Boston and the train to Kingston.
I was a walk on for the Cross Country team my freshman year. Phys Ed was a requirement as a freshman and Coach Russel would round out his team from the Phys Ed class. We were so bad the high school teams beat us. Ended up doing cross country and track all four years and we did win both the Yankee conference cross country and indoor track titles my junior year.
I remember those long trips to Orono, Lewiston(Bates) and Burlington. before a lot of the interstates were built.
Our senior year the football team played Maine for homecoming. That was the year they went to the Tangerine Bowl. I think we got past the 50 yard line once! Think we were 0 for four in homecoming games my for years at URI. The band was great though!!

A Maine fan on Any Given Saturday is hearing rumors that due to Lee our game might be moved to Friday night:

"Hurricane Lee is making landfall in Maine on Saturday and although it will be a tropical storm at that point 50mph winds are predicted with power failures as well. Hearing rumblings that game may be moved to Friday night, that would be awesome although it may have helped us to play it in the rain and wind and maybe keep Kasim from throwing those deep routes(LOL). Expect some final decision shortly."

Good idea about hightailing it out of Orono. That area is expected to get 60 MPH winds and a lot of rain. We're going to get 55 MPH winds and 15 ft waves here in the Portland area. Buttoning up the boat tomorrow. Many boats being hauled or heading to hurricane holes. Hoping we might get the game on local TV.

It shouldn't. As of now it looks like low to mid 60's throughout the game with almost no chance of rain and not a lot of wind.

I also spent a year in Maine NYG just before I reached school age . We lived in Bath along the coast when my Dad was in the Navy . then we moved to Newfoundland . if you thought it was windy in Maine , you should try Newfoundland . I can still hear the wind howling . I can't imagine trying to be
a passing QB there . Hope the wind isn't a factor for Hill tomorrow. He has been pretty amazing so far.

Looks like the wind will top out around 10 mph during the game, shouldn't really be an issue. Looks like for what wind they'll get it won't be until after midnight

This is Fleming's 10th year as coach, he previously has 1 win (last year at Meade) and 8 losses vs Maine, and we haven't beaten Maine at Orono in two decades, and the game is in Maine, the day before a hurricane makes landfall. We are a pass-first oriented team.

I think we should just be absolutely bonkers, over the top thrilled, if we come out of there with a "W", nevermind cover 11 points.

Maine is the URI Football team's personal nemesis, twice in the last two decades they stopped a potential playoff run cold and even stole the playoff bid from URI in doing so, climbed over our backs, and went to the playoffs instead, beating us in games we "had a great spread and were supposed to win". At least one of those games was in Meade, non existent home field advantage. The visiting underdog team all fired up. Don't be surprised if Summers or Savedge are in the open field on a breakaway, the sprinkler system suddenly turns on. The level of contempt is something above absolute hatred. It doesn't matter if they might be on a down year, they'll eat raw manure for breakfast before they let a shitty little team from piss-hole-in-the-snow Rhode Island leave that field with a win.

And that's before the officiating crew has their say in the matter..... ! Buckle up.
