Just FBS D1 football

Unread post by NYGFan_Section208 »

I'm a Noles fan, but...is there a better name than "Duce Chestnut" in college sports?...or anything for that matter?

I'd like yo to meet my financial advisor, Duce Chestnut.
Hey, whenever I need to buy a car, I go to my guy, Duce Chestnut.
Sell your home for more, just call Duce Chestnut.

Phenomenal.

Good thread 208.

I had to look up info in this guy. Impressive player. Incredible that he has 13 TDS playing in special teams in high school.

Duce is a nickname - his real name is Darian Chestnut.

Tell me about your nickname: Ballgame Duce.

Chestnut: My older brother, he’s the original “Ballgame.” So it got passed down to me as Ballgame Duce or Ballgame II, so everybody’s just been calling me Ballgame. It started in middle school. When I make a real big play, you’ll hear me scream two words: BALL GAME!

Colorado was 21 point underdog at TCU. And how about the performance of the Colorado QB!!! Amazing story.

Wyoming was a 13 point underdog at Texas Tech. Nice double OT win for the Mountain West

The game was at Wyoming, but to your larger point, that’s a big win. A result like this is why many P5 schools won’t play non P5 schools on the road.
I was checking a bunch of stations Saturday evening to see what games were being televised. This was a CBS game, but the start was delayed by lightening, I think for about two hours.

Thanks. My mistake. I looked forward and found Texas Tech will host Wyoming in the 2028 season. These out of conference games are often planned well in advance. Still a great win for Wyoming.

Because of Rhody's considerate-ness and having the game tonight, instead of tomorrow, we all get to watch:
-Nebraska at Colorado prime time at noon
-Purdue at Va Tech at noon - if only to see the sandman opening and nothing else
-App State vs UNC 515
-Cincy @ Pitt Coach Nardo 630
-TX Anybody but Alabama @ Alabama 7
-So Miss @ FSU 830 (another awesome game opener with the horse and throwing down of the spear)

Thanks Rhody!

Nebraska vs. Colorado is a true "ugh one of them has to win huh?" sort of game.

Texas vs. Alabama will be interesting as the first "real" game for both teams.

Colorado was favored by 23 points playing Colorado State. Colorado at home.

With 2 minutes to go Colorado State was a 99.4% chance of winning the game. It was over
F5EB3E32-4652-4A1A-9461-870AEE9DC938.png
Colorado won in 2 overtime's to go to 3-0

And yes, we had fans storm the field

From ESPN article 1st 2 paragraphs.........

His mom gave the pregame speech. His defensive-back son started the scoring with an 80-yard pick-six. His quarterback son won it with a 98-yard drive for the ages and an overtime not soon forgotten.

It was quite a day for Deion Sanders. With a bunch of celebrity friends in town, too, to take it all in.

Primarily an ABC day today...

4 Florida State @ Clemson 12:00 PM ABC
19 Colorado @ 10 Oregon 3:30 PM ABC

Several decent 7:30 matchups...
3 Texas @ Baylor 7:30 PM (ABC)
6 Ohio State @ 9 Notre Dame 7:30 PM NBC
24 Iowa @ 7 Penn State 7:30 PM CBS

Will probably go with this one though, since our screen saver is a photo of us sitting in front of coach Narduzzi at the A10T that Rhody won in Pittsburgh
17 North Carolina @ Pittsburgh 8:00 PM ACCN

Possibly all footballed out by that last one, so maybe a detour to Fast and Furious by 8:00... Tokyo Drift - the third (and probably the lamest) film of the most awesome movie franchise ever...

Great diversions to sit around and finish up recovery from the c'rona ;)

FSU @ Clemson at noon is a great game to start the day
URI @ Villanova at 2pm FloSports

Colorado getting 21 points at Oregon. Intriguing game to say the least.

Ohio State @ Notre Dame should be great

Yes, OSU/ND should be a good game...just never been a fan of either program...
Only one rough day. First time I ever was positive, but from the feels...probably third time with it. Basically felt like an extreme hangover with coughing (and without the vomiting) for one day and now just like a regular cold. There may be some fatigue, but I guess I'd have to actually try to 'do' something to find out and I don't see any need for that today

ETA: This is the kind of game FSU loses in past years...let's hope they can keep it together today. I'm not sure there's any other coach that I root against other than the dude at Clemson...

ETA Again: And there you have it....as soon as Weitz missed that FG (his 'rents at the game had quite the rollercoaster*)... for me, it was..."Buffs-Noles in Houston" You read it here first ;-)

*Kicker Weitz is 'grad student' taking online courses at a SC university...was about to start a job in NY and move up there...got called in...Big debut today, parents in the crowd. He made a couple FG. After the first one, it looked like the mom was crying. Was looking good in the game, until with less then 2 minutes to go...he trots out there for a 29yd (likely, imo) game-winner and Sean "Big Game" McDonough says, "I talked to ""dabo said, regarding Weits, it was going to be great or terrible." And up until that moment, it was definitely great, with easy FG greatness in sight. And as an FSU fan, it looked like it was over. Then Sean said that...and I was pretty sure he was going to miss it. And he did. I didn't see if they showed thge parents after that one or not. But as a fan of a team that is almost known for big FG misses...to get a gift like that... ==> see ya in Houston.

Looks like the Buffs are going to have to go some to keep up their end of the deal

AJ Cornelius who transferred from Rhody starts for Oregon. Cornelius is 1 of 8 Transfers this year who start for Oregon on Defense or Offense. 8 of 22. They Got the Chemistry going yesterday.

I'm (still) one of the die-hards referenced below, but that wasn't just a good ol' fashioned butt-kicking"... that was an impressive beat down.
Lanning had those guys jakked up for a serious mission and they executed (seriously). Seal Team Jason Hayes definitely plays him in the movie.

If you have time, this article is a funny read...not sure I knew who this guy was before, but will look for his articles now (David Hale)
https://www.espn.com/college-football/s ... aways-2023

Loved these:

-The magic belongs in Tallahassee now.

-In fairness to Colorado, everyone knows that clicks are a terrible metric, and the Buffs are actually fighting for engagement and advertiser click-throughs, but that's splitting hairs.

-In the end, the Colorado die-hards, many of whom have lived and died with this team for upward of four weeks now, were given a cold dose of reality.

-Week 4 marks our first Colorado-free Heisman Five. The Buffs will be missed, but we also assume Deion Sanders will take offense to this and earn his revenge at a date to be determined.

-Nix had four total touchdowns in a dominant win over Colorado and, as we all know, when you defeat Coach Prime, you absorb his powers. That's just science.

Welp, 'thud, the Buffs have landed', just as many predicted but no one wanted to hear. Depth is definitely an issue and down his 3 best players, Prime is right when he says 'get us now.'

Someone taking it to Florida = always good

I'm kind of surprised how hard Colorado has gotten thumped the past two games, but the writing was probably on the wall with how Colorado State played them. Nobody is going to be overlooking them at this point, and they're always going to get the "fuck these guys" effort from the better teams.

Of local interest, UMass has dropped four straight after winning their opener. Except for a bludgeoning by Auburn, the other games have been somewhat competitive.

David Hale's article this week has a write up of the Rhody/Brown game as the Under the radar game of the week. Liked this line ... "Now, you might ask how it's possible to play a football game in a state that's only 94 yards wide. Luckily, kickoff was at low tide."

Make it 6 in a row for UMass
Fantastic game
Loved the way that Gabriel dude passed them down the field with no timeouts. That was awesome quarterbacking
That was great quarterbacking but he was helped big time by the Texas defense playing soft and pissing down their legs in crunch time.

If you ever have a chance to go to the game, definitely do it. 92,000 people in the Cotton Bowl, split half for Texas, half for Oklahoma. Throw in that the stadium is right in the middle of the Texas State Fair and is in Dallas and you can't beat it for a weekend trip

Top 4 teams all playing at noon...
Go Noles! (and Hoosiers, Boiler-uppers, and Commodores)
I do not like that the ESPN predictor only gives FSU a 26% chance to make the cfp if they win out. But after the 2017-2021 stretch of cumulative 7 under (good for golf, not for vs .500) I'll take it, I guess.

Oregon seems they can be scary good, crushing it lately....I always find flips like this interesting...
Oregon - Washington
Oregon 55.2% favored to beat Washington.
LINE: WASH -3.0

Whereas this one makes a little more sense (and is looking to be the (Top 25) slaughter of the day):
Penn St - UMass
Penn St favored 99.0% to win
Penn St -42.0

And, it's too bad Prime can't get his team on in prime time...sounds like a whale of a game. Glad I didn't stay up to watch...the only thing worse than staying up too late for sports is staying up too late for sports and the team you're rooting for loses...

Will be interesting to see what Team Prime does in prime time vs UCLA as a 15 point dog...
