Re: Ray Allen III
Good genes! The link said he’d been offered by UMass and Rutgers a couple years ago. I presume he doesn’t need a scholarship given his Dad’s career so who knows?

Ray Allen at basketball games. Logan Mankins at football games. Should be fun!

Re: ‘23 FL SG Ray Allen III (URI Preferred Walk-on)
There is almost zero info on him out there. Can't find any stats, just a freshman highlight video.
I mean, how bad can he be? You'd think he'd have enough of his dad in him to be able to come off the bench and make threes sometime down the line right? Got too much of his mama in him...

They enroll with the understanding they are guaranteed a spot on the roster.

I’m guessing he coming to learn about coaching from Archie. If so, that’s a huge compliment.

Re: ‘23 FL SG Ray Allen III (URI Preferred Walk-on)
Before you know it he will go from being a preferred walk-on to the starting rotation and sinking 3s every time he touches the ball!!!!

Re: ‘23 FL SG Ray Allen III (URI Preferred Walk-on)
Fun addition! He’s legitimately a walk-on, though, not a rich kid who can ball and is doing the team a favor by not using the scholarship. His dad became his high school coach a couple years ago, which had to be a great experience for both of them. His dad had his highlight videos out there and was working his connections for a scholarship, but he never really got the offers. I like this path for him, though.
Ray also officially graduated from UConn this month- something he clearly did not have to do but thought was important, for himself and as an example. He even showed up to the ceremony, sat with the students and took some pictures with them when they asked, had his whole extended family there with him. It was a really nice moment.

This is from September of 2022. It’s not much of a highlight tape, but there’s not much out there on him.

Re: ‘23 FL SG Ray Allen III (URI Preferred Walk-on)
So, is he good enough to get any playing time in a year or 2? Still a great PR move nonetheless.

Re: ‘23 FL SG Ray Allen III (URI Preferred Walk-on)
Regardless of how much RA III plays, the PR has been fantastic. His commitment has been carried by numerous publications and hoop writers.

I got a notification on my phone from CBS sports I think about his commitment to Rhode Island. Also got a sports illustrated tweet, and I think Bleacher report too. Definitely got the program some publicity.

Oh yeah, it’s great for publicity. If he plays, we’re guaranteed a clip on ESPN’s socials.

From the description above, RA3 sounds like an intelligent, good character young man. A hard worker on the court and in the classroom. I think it is helpful beneficial to have him around the team.
Maybe he is thinking about getting into coaching down the road ? If so, I hope him attending Rhody turns out to be a win/win.

Nice story, I guess....we need people that put the biscuit in the bucket. If his last name was N'Ohehoh, then he would be just another Nohehoh...and no one would know who he was. Is he or his dad paying in to the team NIL fund? (If so, then that would be super cool)

Having your 12th man bring an NBA legend at your games and SI / Bleacher tweets about your program is nothing but a good thing.NYGFan_Section208 wrote: ↑11 months ago Nice story, I guess....we need people that put the biscuit in the bucket. As long as there is an understanding that he is the 12th man if that is what he is brought in to be... Things can certainly turn sour if the family etc feels more playing time is warranted. We've seen parents (and others) take to social media about perceived grievances, and it is what it is. But with a famous and influential parent figure, that could turn ugly.bigappleram wrote: ↑11 months agoHaving your 12th man bring an NBA legend at your games and SI / Bleacher tweets about your program is nothing but a good thing.NYGFan_Section208 wrote: ↑11 months ago Nice story, I guess....we need people that put the biscuit in the bucket. Re: ‘23 FL SG Ray Allen III (URI Preferred Walk-on)
Agreed but am hopeful that Ray has never shown any indication he is 1 of those parents and as a preferred walk-on I would assume the expectations are in check. I'm kinda curious who/where the connection is to the current staff bc I would assume given he is only a PWO and with RA as his father he could have gone to any number of places.Bos8 wrote: ↑11 months agoAs long as there is an understanding that he is the 12th man if that is what he is brought in to be... Re: ‘23 FL SG Ray Allen III (URI Preferred Walk-on)
I was wondering if they talked to Dan about UConn about being a PWO. I think Dan's son graduated, right? Of course, he'd have very little chance to get any playing time, but I'm sure Ray wouldn't have minded if his son went to his alma mater.

Re: ‘23 FL SG Ray Allen III (URI Preferred Walk-on)
Yeah that's the logical destination. Don't think Dan's son graduated yet. But there would still seem to be PWO spots open there.
I also think RA maintains a CT residence but could be wrong about that.

Re: ‘23 FL SG Ray Allen III (URI Preferred Walk-on)
It would be badass if he can eventually come off the bench and nail threes.
There's so many 6'1 guys who have been shooters at the A-10 and D1 level
Remember Brad Redford for Xavier? Short white dude who could only make a set shot? I think of him and I think surely Ray Allen's son can develop well enough to be able to come off the bench and be a 3pt shooting threat. Not setting any expectations of him or anything.

I hear ya, PRT. No expectations for me either with RA3. It would be fun IF he developed into a 3 point specialist for periodic use and helped us pull out a game or two. It would draw more eyes to the program IF he did, I think; a little buzz.PeterRamTime wrote: ↑11 months ago It would be badass if he can eventually come off the bench and nail threes.

Wonder if it’s possible he’s thinking he can actually get some playing time @ URI down the road whereas @ UConn that’s more of a long shot ??Billyboy78 wrote: ↑11 months ago I was wondering if they talked to Dan about UConn about being a PWO. Archie does like more traditional point guards. (e.g., Thomas and Always)

Re: ‘23 FL SG Ray Allen III (URI Preferred Walk-on)
Eh, the fact that he's only logging 14 MPG for a prep team that his dad coaches kind of makes me temper my expectations. They also went 17-12 overall, per MaxPreps, although you have to pay for a subscription if you want to see box scores. I think this is solely taking a flyer on a guy, which is fine, considering we're talking about a preferred walk-on role and not using an actual scholarship on him.
