Let’s start with the most important note…Congratulations to the University of Rhode Island’s women’s team for winning their first ever postseason victory. The game at times was not pretty, but getting a win in rock fight is all that matters. The Rams advance to take on intraconference foe Richmond on Monday night at the Ryan Center.

The Spiders rolled over Pennsylvania by over 20 to advance to the second round. Richmond is led by a pair of forwards in Addie Budnick & Maggie Doogan. Budnick has 10 straight games of double digit scoring & is averaging almost 14 points per game. Doogan, who made the A10 Conference All-Rookie team, went for 18 & 13 in the first-round game. Grace Townsend is a really good point guard who is averaging roughly 10/5/5. Townsend had 2 games this season where she had a double/double with points & assists.

In order for Rhody to get the win Monday night, they are going to need a better offensive performance. The Rams defense stifled Boston University & was the reason they won. The Rams held the Terriers to an abysmal 1-19 from behind the arc. Unfortunately, the Rams shot just 22% with Squires, Hattix-Covington, & Debroise going a combined 0-19. Even though the Rams beat the Spiders earlier this season by 26, it will be extremely difficult to get the win if they have another offense performance like Friday nights. Hopefully some of the poor shooting was due to rust after not playing for almost 2 weeks. Playing at home, I think Rhody will have just enough to get the win. The Rams have beaten the Spiders six straight, let’s make it 7! My prediction URI 61 – Richmond 58. Go Rhody!!

I know Richmond did well in the A-10 Tourney beating Fordham, but this is a team that URI was able to beat in the regular season. They are playing at home, there really is no excuse here, this is a golden opportunity to get another post season win.

They cannot have another first half, offensively, like they did against Boston. Toure and Magassa cannot take an entire half to warm up, they can't allow the Spiders the rebounding advantage they gifted Boston on a silver platter, especially on the offensive glass. Toure needs to get in there and grab some boards early.

With frequent substitutions in an eleven player rotation, we are under-performing early in games in order to have everyone rested for the final 15 minutes when our opponents are tiring. Our problem is that our veteran starters are pacing themselves as though they will be expected to play 30+ minutes when they need to start the game sprinting before our opponents are warmed up. When we are close or ahead at half-time we win games. The number of "air-balls" we shoot early in halves tells me we are not properly warmed-up. This is true for starters and reserves. This has got to stop.

OK, nice to feel good walking out of the RC last nite, kinda forgot what that feels like. Even tough the rock fight showed up, finally some shots fell. Team is very watchable and decent crowd I thought. Maybe Athletics/Alumni will open Alumni Lounge with something pre-game? Highly recommended for local Rhody fans not sure about this yet. Choo choo, get on board!

Also, a save-the-date flyer for women’s end of season banquet was distributed, 4/13, details to follow I guess.

We beat them by 26 during the season and that was before Magassa was playing. I would still expect a much tighter game.

Last chance to to see the team in person. Due to Ryan Center commitments, team must finish on the road. Let's get a big crowd tonight.

Crucial 2nd period. This is where the Spiders will try to make their move. Rhody is known for being a second half team, so Richmond is going to press hard to try and take the lead before the half.

Fantastic win as Rhody almost doubles Richmond in rebounds and assists: 42 to 22 and 21 to 11. Almost 50% from 3 as well. Rematch set against either UMass or Harvard. Let's go LADIES!!!

My bad in getting to this party late. Really impressed on how they defend, deny passing lanes, rebound, constant player and ball movement, mostly good shooting and the three ball as a weapon. Fun to watch, they have me hook, line and sinker! Go Rhody! Looking ahead to next season.

No. Ryan Center has events scheduled already so it’s a road game.

Welcome! Tammi and the Lady Rams are the best show in the Ryan Center since Dan moved to Storrs.
