Ish to Hofstra?
For teams that expected NCAAT... probably hard to get up for this...

Yeah, the first and second round of the NIT is mostly for routing out the "we don't really want to be here" teams.

Re: NIT Game Talk 2023
UAB defeats Utah Valley by 2 points in OT to reach the Chamipnship game Thursday night in Las Vegas vs North Texas.
It will be an All Conference USA (and future All AAC) Final
UAB, North Texas, FAU, Charlotte, Rice and UTSA will all be joining the AAC, all from Conference USA.
The NIT had 13 P6 Teams among the 32 participants.
UAB and North Texas made the NIT Championship and FAU is in the NCAA Final Four. All 3 Going out of Conference USA and into the AAC with a bang.
AAC will increase from 11 to 14 teams with the addition of these 6 Conference USA Teams and the reduction of 3 teams joining Big 12 in Houston, Cincinnati and UCF. Brigham Young will also be joining Big 12 from WCC.

Re: NIT Game Talk 2023
Could we see a day when the NCAA tourney is comprised only of P5 schools, and the NIT is for everyone else?
Just like FBS and FCS for football.
Of course I hope not, but you never know. If the P5's break away, it or something like it could happen.

That right Reef,
But you left out North Texas, also from Conf USA
And all 4 of these schools are headed to American Athletic Conference July 1, 2023
Charlotte
North Texas
UAB
FAU
What great timing for the AAC

Bone, Fwiw, I don’t believe they want an imminent sudden break.rambone 78 wrote: ↑1 year ago Could we see a day when the NCAA tourney is comprised only of P5 schools, and the NIT is for everyone else?

I think, unintentionally or intentionally - depending on my daily level of P5 paranoia or adherence to P5 conspiracies - the P5 are being patient and playing a financial battle of attrition against non-P5 conferences. I don’t think this strategy will get them to 100% domination of the NCAAT because the BE, other select non-P5 conferences and/or select programs within non-P6 conferences that are NCAAT committed and goal oriented, will adapt to slow the P5 progression of NCAAT dominance for awhile.
However, If I am thinking from a P5 point of view and I want to maximize my basketball revenue (because they hunger for more and more money) and dominate the NCAAT/March Madness brand, I am taking this patient, war of attrition approach for now to further separate from or weaken my competition. Then, I would look to overcome my next closest non-P5 enemy (the P6 Big East) by picking off their members by substantially offering them more money and a better basketball opportunity or run the risk of being NCAAT marginalized due to my growing financial dominance as other non-P6 basketball programs surrender due to excessive, continuing financial bb program pressures.
At that point I (the P5) am the only one left standing and have dominion over the NCAAT and thus relegating those I deem unworthy to compete with me to the NIT.
Of course, I could be completely wrong due to over-emphasizing my bias of viewing college basketball in the same military minded way I view other sports, business, diplomacy and economics - as a form of war by other less violent means. As an aside, I think my military mindset bias is probably due to watching the movie Patton, with George C. Scott, too often growing up because I never served in the military (btw, it is still one of my all-time favorite movies).
Or, I could be wrong due to an over active imagination.
Anyway, I appreciate your post as I enjoy these type of speculations. It reminds me of chess but with the P5 vs the non-P5.
Thanks, Bone.
ETA: oooph. I have too much time on my hands or KB is sending me over the edge.

Re: NIT Game Talk 2023
"Old man yells at cloud" moment - game didn't start until like 9:45 so I barely made it to halftime. If I'm going to be up that late, it'll be Monday for the Natty.
Here's a fun one - back in 2010, I fell asleep on my couch watching Duke vs. Butler for the 'ship. I dreamt that Butler won on a buzzer beater. Woke up with about a minute left and it nearly freaking happened.
