Will Rhody make it to Brooklyn this year?

Talk about the men's team, upcoming opponents and news from around college hoop.

Will URI make it to Barclay's this year?

No way - any thoughts of that are pure fantasy

Best case scenario is to overtake Dayton for 13th place (which is first team out) and I don't even see that happening.

Anything is possible obviously, but I started to think we were going to make it after the St Louis game and then we lost 6 in a row. While the team is obviously capable of putting a winning streak together, they could just as easily come back and lose 3 or 4 in a row again.

Very small chance. If we play our best every game from here on out, then it's possible.

Not very likely though. Let's put it this way: beat Duquesne this weekend, THEN maybe discuss the possibility.

Until then, over and out.

If Rhody beats the Dukes and Dayton loses to Xavier this weekend, Rhody has sole posession of 13th place. Then they just need to win a few more home games to make it close.

They probably need 3 more wins and with that schedule, it's not likely. At Temple and at St. Joe's, home against Xavier, LaSalle and UMASS.....assuming they beat Duquesne(not a given, by any means), they would have to win two of those other games.

We need to pass 2 of the following 3 teams, Richmond, St. Bonnie(both 4-6) and Dayton (3-7). If all goes according to form, by looking at each schedule, Richmond will end up at 7-9, Bonnies will end up at 6-10 and Dayton will end up at 5-11. I'm assuming we would lose a tiebreaker with the Bonnies(is it head-to-head?). That means, we have to catch or pass Richmond, either going 5-1 or 6-0. Yes, there could be an upset or two, but we'd still have to probably go at least 4-2 to have chance. Looking at it from this point of view, I'd say there is very little chance we go to Brooklyn.

I voted no way. In the pre-season record one I predicted enough wins to get there. After having watched the offense(lack there of mostly)in the early games I the suggested no to Brooklyn. Games like SLU and Dayton are more lightning in a bottle than anything else. Sorry, but don't see enough sustained offensive outout to overcome the remaining sked and leaping over the teams ahead of us.

Exactly. URI would have to win several more games and both SBU and Richmond lose just about every game. URI also lost to both the Bonnies and Spiders so they lose any tie-breaker. It is extremely unlikely Rhody could secure 12th place.

On the plus side, a win at Duquense will all but assure no last place finish. URI would have a three game lead on the Dukes and own the tie-breakers over Duquense (h-h with DU and 3 way tie with FU) with just 5 games left. I think our Rams have an excellent chance to pass Fordham and get to 14th place. All they need to do is finish out with one more win than Fordham since they are now tied in league play. Unfortuantely the loss at Fordham means we would lose the tie-breaker should both teams end with the same A-10 record.

I believe the best chance is for URI, Dayton and SBU to tie for 12th

if Dayton beats SBU that would mean all 3 teams would be 1-1 against each other.
Dayton's best win would be St Joes
Bonnies best win would be Temple
Our best win is St Louis

this would be subject to change obviously

This team could very easily be 5-5 in conference right now. Just a matter of a few points.

They could also be 0-10 just as easily.

If the former, we'd be going to the Barclay's, where one win would be possible.

The reality is, there's no guarantee we'll beat Duquesne.

If that happens, that will end this talk for good this season.

If Rhody went 3-3 in its last six games (and this probability is highly debatable), either SBU or Richmond or both would have to lose all their remaining 6 games and Dayton not win more than 2 games. The odds are heavily stacked against a 12th place finish for URI.

Actually SBU could win a game and the scenario I mentioned above comes in where URI gets 12th based on its win over second place SLU

...and since St. Bona and Richmond play each other tomorrow, that can't happen. Somebody has to win. I guess we root for the Bonnies in that one, I think Twisted's scenario with a 3 way tie with us, Bonnies and Dayton is the only way we could get in. I think the odds are about .00007 of that happening.

Wether we go or not doesn't diminish that this team will be heading upward, this year or next. It won't happen overnight, but I am more enthused about our future than I was last year at this point.

I voted 50/50 not based on the math (which indicates that it's not likely), but the fact that after watching this team all year, I'm not comfortable in counting them out of anything. I'll believe they have a chance until they're mathematically eliminated.

I just want one more win, so we can have more than last year's team, which
had a lot more talent, at least before Wilson was thrown off the team.
Holton and Outerbridge were more productive than their counterparts this year.

I'd like to see a 3-3 finish, not because it will get us to NY [it won't], just so we don't have a 20 loss season.

10-19 just looks a lot better than 9-20.

I predicted no prior to the start of the season and I'm sticking with it. The problem is not only that we need to win at least three more ames but we also lose the tie breakers with Bona, and Richmond. One of them would have to lose out.

OK, I'm calling Wednesday's game vs. Xavier a win for us.
Xavier has the slowest paced offense in the A-10.
They have an advantage on the boards, but who hasn't with us.
Something amiss with Xavier. I mean, transfers from Monmoth and Towson State?

I am inclined to agree with Iggy after they just beat Xavier today. Rhody may have a shot at Xavier when they come to the Ryan center. It looks like they will be coming in wounded. Maybe URI has a shot at Barclays after all....maybe...just maybe.

I'll admit to being one of the 3 votes saying Yes to Brooklyn. Not sure from the postings who the other 2 are to date. If we win tonight then we are definitely in the hunt. I also think that Xavier is vulnerable and we could win that one at home, Lasalle is also a possibility of a win at home. But a huge game could end up being the one AT St Joe's on March 6th. Current Standings at 630pm Sat Feb 16
We looked good in the last win against Dayton, good defense, good enthusiasm and the rebounding seems to be improving. Tonight against Duquesne is a must win and puts us in the hunt.

Richmond is now tied with St. Joe's with 5 wins. Looking at their schedules, I actually think we have a better chance of catching St. Joe's. If we beat St. Joe's a end up in a 3 way tie with St. Joe's and Bonnies, are we still in?

it comes down to tie breakers and who the tie is with, if it's 2 or 3 teams. Tough to predict right now, in a couple of weeks we will know more

We have to win these next two games at home first. Tough games vs. Xavier and La Salle, but winnable if we play well. If we have 5 wins after these two games, with 3 left to play, there would be hope and it could get interesting. But, we have to take care of business at home next week.

We're putting the cart before the horse, but I guess it's nice to at least think about the possibilities.

We've proven we can play with the middle of the league [except UMass] so far, and even be competitive with the top [Butler and VCU]. We also play life and death with the bottom of the league.

All bodes well for next season. This year, let's just get to 10 wins. That would be a nice accomplishment, given the team's overall lack of talent.

I mean, if we had won a couple more close OOC games, and a couple more close league games, we'd be a .500 team. Really not that far off from that.

Then all could call Hurley a miracle worker for sure.

UMass lost a killer tonight to Temple, on the heels of their blowout loss to VCU. Off the bubble probably for good.

Did anyone see that Temple has now played 4 one point games in a row? Some kind of record I think.

As for the X and LaSalle games coming up, I can see us beating X. I cannot see us beating LaSalle. They are moving up rapidly, squarely on the NCAA bubble. They need to keep winning to get in. They don't have the cache of teams like Temple and X, among others.

I think they will be the A10's 4th team in, behind Butler, VCU, and St Louis. For the A10 to get 5, someone like Temple, UMass, or X will have to get hot in NY to have a chance.

It is probably still 2-3 years away.

It seems like ages ago when we all heard the name Rhode Island called three consecutive years on selection sunday.
