Agreed, thanks Jersey. I made a minute adjust to the topic title, since (at this point) we now have similar threads in the women's basketball and football forums at times too, haha.

Yes, the Wild West. Anything goes.
And, post game handshake lines are like speed dating opportunities.

I wonder if it’s off base to pass out NIL agreements in post game handshake lines? Small ones…like business card sized. Can’t make it too obvious.

He is a redshirt freshman PG from Va.

Davidson was on his list before choosing Villanova. Red shirt last year. Was playing dbl digit minutes at the beginning of this year, but, had fallen out of rotation. Entered portal Dec 30. Sounds as if this might be a mid year transfer.

Anyone know the story on Easley fro,Duquesne. Looks as if he is a big(6’7” 230)with rebounding credentials and it shows him available immediately. Previously, Archie would not take a junior- wonder if that thinking has changed?Jersey77 wrote: ↑1 year ago Probably time to start this thread, currently 53 players in the portal.

Transferred in from TCU. Played last season for Duquesne and then started this season. Playing time reduced and production this year. He served a 7 game suspension this year, returned and decided on portal. His playing time reduced due to competition being better this year.McRam wrote: ↑1 year agoAnyone know the story on Easley fro,Duquesne. Actually TCU was his second school, started at Chattanooga averaged 14 pts (40% 3pt)/6.3 rebs.ramster wrote: ↑1 year agoTransferred in from TCU. Recently took a recruiting trip to Nevada.
The NCAA will not allow you to play for 2 different teams in one season.

Why would we want a guy who was suspended for 7 games this year at Duquesne and has had his playing time reduced this year at Duquesne?
Duquesne cast offs? Please no.

I agree with you, that I don't think he would be a good fit here.
He originally committed to VCU, but changed his mind when Will Wade went to LSU.
He was rated as a 4* ESPN.

It looks like that one is more for 2022-23, whereas this would be for 2023-24. I'll rename some threads to reflect that.Jersey77 wrote: ↑1 year agoWe already have a thread started on the transfer portal '23.SmartyBarrett wrote: ↑1 year ago This will obviously pick up over the summer, but some names already hitting the portal.

ETA: Actually, I was mistaken, there was one for 2023-24 already - whoops. I've tried to merge and rename some threads here, to make things more manageable.

Re: The Men's Basketball Transfer Carousel 2023-24
Roster building is no longer a developmental exercise - you need to do it to compete next year and every year. Tammi gets it, and I hope Archie does. I don't want to believe Archie's song-and-dance that what he did this year was his desired strategy. I think it was his only option so he tried to sell it as a positive. I hope Archie has a reputation that will make URI a desirable destination for top players in the portal. Losing Ish or Bray would be a very bad sign for the future of URI basketball.

Re: The Men's Basketball Transfer Carousel 2023-24
I think Archie is going to take his time and let the team grow old in experience in years 2 and 3 and build a culture along the way. Then we’ll start seeing short term transfers to shore up our weaknesses.

I think you can do both - develop and bring in portal surfers (transfers).
I get what you’re saying, though.

Well we definitely know we’re going most likely have 2 transfers out this year, the two who are the most obvious, and they will be replaced with two others that are more experienced and better options

Yes on Bassy, but no on Lou, technically this was supposed to be his post grad year in HS so I’ll give him a little pass plus I want him to play more
The other is Samb, I truely wonder what he was developing last year while redshirting, damn you David Cox

Re: The Men's Basketball Transfer Carousel 2023-24
You omitted that I would not extend Cox's buyout. You see my wisdom with this year's roster and no recruits from Cox's final season. My suggestion of an extension without buyout would have cost URI nothing more when terminated but allowed him to recruit which is his forte.
Are you saying that a woman couldn't coach the MBB program or are you saying that Tammi is not capable of coaching a MBB program? There are plenty of men coaching D1 WBB programs. I have confidence that Tammi could successfully coach any college MBB or WBB program. I support Archie's hire but having Tammi coach the MBB program is a viable option which would keep her here.

Tammi could have an Associate Head Coach for each program. I don't think it has been tried, you might be right or wrong. You say right, I say wrong.

Re: The Men's Basketball Transfer Carousel 2023-24
He's almost certainly going to have to transfer down, since his departure from URI (attitude issue that leads to dismissal with a respected coach) is way different than from GW (coach that recruited him got fired). Also, while it's still easier to get a waiver from the NCAA now than 10 years ago, his circumstances mean he might have to sit for a year. There are plenty of smaller D-I schools in Virginia and Maryland that would probably be interested, even with the baggage.

Not saying he won't moved down though.
Maybe he pulls an A10 Trifecta and ends up at GM.
Every coach feels they can correct an attitude and teach defense.
Bray has offensive skills that will attract many schools.
