Softball has already opened up their season in Decatur, GA at a tournament hosted by Georgia State at their Heck Softball Complex.



They're considered the home team in this morning's game and they're tied at 3 in the top of the 6th against Eastern Kentucky. In addition to the current game being played they have the following games this weekend:

Lynchard Named Atlantic 10 Pitcher of the Week

KINGSTON, R.I. - Rhode Island senior Liz Lynchard has been named the Atlantic 10 Pitcher of the Week for softball.

Lynchard had a dominant week when Rhode Island needed it most, going 3-0 with a 0.35 ERA in 20.0 innings of work against conference opponents Massachusetts and St. Bonaventure. Lynchard led URI to a 5-0 record for the week as the Rams closed in on their first postseason bid in 13 years.

She carried a n-hitter into the seventh inning at UMass and finished with a complete-game one-hit shutout. In the second game of the doubleheader at UMass, she got the victory with 2.2 innings of shutout relief.

In the series opener at St. Bonaventure, Lynchard threw her second complete-game shutout of the week, a three-hitter with seven strikeouts... In her final appearance of the week, she allowed just one run over 3.1 innings, getting a no-decision in an eventual win for the team. For the week, Lynchard had 18 strikeouts with just two walks and 13 hits allowed. Opponents batted just .181 against her over the four appearances.

Tough side of the bracket for Rhody. They got swept by both Dayton and Loyola this season in their 3 game series against both teams. Actually played the 1 seed St. Louis better by having 3 one run games and winning one of them. Hopefully game 4 against each opponent will go much better.
