Yea definitely softer OOC, it’s usually like LSU then Texas then Clemson. That’s ok though.

I did not realize that 20% of the the A-10 (3 of 15 members) presently does not have a men's baseball team. No squads at LaSalle, Duquense, and Loyola-Chicago.

RF1,
Baseball was dropped by LaSalle as 1 of 7 sports due to Covid related budget issues.
Jack Cucinotta transferred to URI when LaSalle dropped baseball

The fact that Loyola doesn't have a baseball team is a bit disconcerting when one considers we just added them to the A10

Nice looking baseball stadium. After the ongoing BB practice facility build and proposed football stadium and track builds it would be awesome to see URI look at upgrading the baseball, soccer and softball facilities. I don’t think the upgrades at these facilities would be nearly as insurmountable or anywhere near as complex as what has been done with the Ryan Center and practice facilities or what is planned for Meade and the outdoor track.

Well we did beat them by 10 on Saturday.

Not sure how good Sam Houston State is supposed to be, but 1-2 to start the year on the road is probably fairly standard for a northern team

The original bond was $82.3 million for everything, so after the $54.1 million for Meade and the outdoor track facility that leaves $28.2 million for baseball, soccer, softball, and pool repairs

Oh thanks for the clarification, that’s great. Looking forward to seeing all the athletic facilities upgrades that come out of this bond. Especially Meade!

Next up four games in three days with Virginia. They are Ranked #19 currently, would be huge even if the boys split with them. Could be one of the biggest crowds they will play in front of this season.

Win over Merrimack yesterday gets the team to 8-11, and the 200th career win for Coach Cerrato.

Interesting game this afternoon vs. Northeastern. Huskies are 18-4 and 21st in RPI so this will be Rhody's 7th quad 1 game, they are 1-5 so far in Q1.

The A10 is looking wide open - only two teams are above .500 (Davidson and St. Louis) but only URI, GW and Dayton have played tough schedules in nonconference.

General thought. It’s amazing how baseball differs to indoor sports. Southern schools have such an advantage it’s not even funny. Imagine playing home games in 75 degrees in March vs 43 and sleet?

Yep, sad reality of New England baseball. Good to see UConn and BC doing well this year, Northeastern also.

Rhody starts off conference play at 3-3. Also a nice 12-5 win over Brown today with a home run saving catch.

Important series this weekend vs the Bonnies who give up 1Davidson and St Louis top the standings so far with both at 5-1 in conference.

Edited to remove broken link and misinfo!

I do not know much about the team other than occasionally looking at their schedule and game scores. I therefore cannot answer your question. All I know is that things appear to be trending in the wrong direction. Given that a northern program like URI plays far fewer home games, it is troubling that the team recently went just 2-6 in its most recent Bill Beck Field games.

Some thoughts on the 2-7 record in last 9 games you mention.
1st loss to UMASS Lowell was OOC. In college baseball, teams often play pitchers who might not get much action in A10 conference play. VS UMASS Lowell URI threw 10 different pitchers all 1 inning or less
Same with Hartford loss - another OOC game. Some players in action that might not normally play. Best pitchers might see little or no action depending on upcoming A10 games - have to save the best for A10 games.

The path to NCAA bid is winning the A10 Conf Tournament. No at large bids for the A10 expected. Plan and play to win the A10 Championship.

The loss to #9 ranked UCONN was expected. UCONN was a late sub for #19 ranked Boston College who cancelled last minute due to air travel delays/difficulties.

The 2 wins of the 9 games came as URI went 1-2 vs 1st place Davidson and 1-2 vs a tough Dayton squad. It was important that we not get swept vs those two teams. Davidson was picked preseason 1st place with 5 1st place votes.

Preseason URI was picked by Coaches to finish 6th. We are currently 6th place. Just as expected.

The home field factor favored URI vs Davidson and Dayton. But home field in college baseball is not near as big as in basketball or football. 50-100 fans at games, typically windy/cool during these past 9 games keeps people away.

Reasons for optimism!!!!!

We just handily won @ last place UMASS yesterday. 2 more games this weekend could move URI up in the standings. Let's hope so.

Upcoming 3 games AT 2nd place St Joseph's - consider that St Joe's was picked 7th preseason coaches poll - they are beatable.

Final series of year is AT URI vs 8th place VCU. VCU lost to 1st place Davidson yesterday in game 1 of 3 this weekend. Big series to end the regular season. VCU was picked 2nd preseason with 4 1st place votes. VCU is good and this could be a huge series for both URI and VCU that weekend. Both fighting to be in Top 7 Trams that go to A10 Tournament in Richmond. And fighting for best possible seed.

URI is capable of winning the A10 Tournament.
