The Rhody Rams limp to the finish line of this 3 game homestand to start the season, as they take on the Stony Brook Seawolves. The good news regarding this game is that URI is not playing a Bobcats team as they are 0 for 2 so far against that mascot. Not that I am taking any game for granted this season, playing Stony Brook may be just what the doctor ordered. Led by coach Geno Ford in his fourth season, they are picked to finish 9th out of 13 teams in the CAA. They lose their top three scorers from a year ago. In their opening game, the Seawolves got rolled by Florida by 36 & then won an exhibition game by 20+ against DII Miami-Hamilton. Stony Brook is also missing probably their best played in graduate transfer guard Aaron Clarke. He transferred from Sacred Heart but is out indefinitely with back problems. They also picked up a transfer Keenan Fitzmorris from Stanford, a 7-foot center that could cause some problems downlow. Kenan Sarvan is leading the team in scoring by averaging 18.5 per contest, although much of his damage came against in the exhibition game. He has 5 more made three pointers than the entire Rhode Island team.

As for Rhode Island, well the results have been less than ideal. On the plus side they shot the ball MUCH better from the charity stripe. On the negative side, turnovers are killing this team. Well, that & Brayon Freeman hasn’t hit a shot yet & his attitude so far has been quite off putting. I am desperately hoping that they are able to turn this around before heading down to the Cayman Islands for the Salt Lyfe tournament. Salt Lyfe is an applicably named tournament as the Ram’s fanbase is starting to become a bit salty. I am guessing URI will be favored by about 9 points. My prediction URI 68 – Stony Brook 60. Go Rhody!!

I feel like we recruited Policelli for a minute. He ended up at Dayton and then transferred to SBU. This has to be a win and a shot of confidence for some of our struggling guys. I continue to be impressed by Tchikou.

I was going to say the same thing. I feel like a game away from the Ryan would probably be good for the team overall but especially Freeman and Weston.

Don't love this for our big man depth. Malik, Hutch and Rory are all going to have contribute valuable minutes at the 4.

Game to game improvement from team - as a whole - and individual players, confidence building and culture building is what I am hoping for. I am not going to get caught up in wins and losses at this time because the team just isn’t good right now and I don’t know if we have hit our floor yet. The wins will follow in time.

while the transfer portal is nice to add a piece or two, culture and identity don't come from the portal in the form of seniors and covid bonus year guys.

Culture and identity are formed from actual recruits buying into the coaches philosophy and program.

Freeman is at least out dancing during warmups. Kudos to Archie. Set the expectations right away. I saw him leave bench Saturday. It actually was right around when Thomas picked up his 4th foul. Is this his come to Jesus moment or the beginning of the end.. he definitely is smiling and dancing a lot. Let's hope for the former rather than the latter.. ps this could be an ugly game..

Wasn't able to make the Texas State game so looking to see some improvement from whoever ends up seeing the floor tonight.

Just heard them announce a "Tee's for 3's" promotion, where they're supposed to throw shirts in the crowd after URI makes 3 point shots. They might want to re think that strategy if fan engagement is the goal.

Hopefully tonight changes that trend. I'll predict its Rory based off pre game warm-ups.
