2022-23 Men's Games of Interest

Unread post by RhowdyRam02 »

Obadiah stated last year that he was doing away his games of interest thread, but I think there's still a place for it. I'm starting it for the year but I welcome all contributions. I'll primarily be focused on A10 and non-conference opponents. So to kick things off:

UMass Lowell hosts Fisher College at 6 on ESPN3
Milwaukee hosts Milwaukee School of Engineering at 6 on ESPN+
La Salle at #16 Villanova at 6:30
We host Quinnipiac at 7 on ESPN+
@24 Dayton hosts Lindenwood at 7 on ESPN+
Davidson hosts Guilford at 7 on ESPN+
VCU hosts Manhattan at 7 on ESPN+
St. Bonaventure hosts St. Francis (PA) at 7 on ESPN+
George Washington hosts Virginia State at 7 on ESPN+
Richmond hosts VMI at 7 on ESPN+
Brown is at Vermont at 7 on ESPN+
UMass hosts Central Connecticut at 7:30 on ESPN+
Fordham hosts Dartmouth at 7:30 on ESPN+
Texas State is at Washington State at 7:30
Army hosts Keystone at 7:30 on ESPN+
George Mason is at #15 Auburn at 8 on ESPN+
St. Louis hosts Murray State at 8 on ESPN+
Loyola Chicago hosts Farleigh Dickinson at 8 on ESPN+
Stony Brook is at Florida at 8 on ESPN+
Boston College hosts Cornell at 8 on ESPN+
Georgia State hosts College of Coastal Georgia at 8 on ESPN+
Kansas State hosts UT Rio Grande Valley at 9 on ESPN+

My goal is to post each day what games the teams on our schedule will be playing that night. Think of it like a TV guide type thing on my end. Everyone else can add what they feel is appropriate

Busy schedule right out of the gate. I think the UMass game is on NESN although, not sure if it’s live or a replay. I’ll have to check out some of it if I remember.

It’s only the first game but, very curious as to the results of the George Mason/Auburn game. Tough opening game for GM.

Looks like the conference had a good opening night. 10-3, if I remember correctly.

GM dropped their game to 15th ranked Auburn by 18? I checked in during the Rhody game and GM was hanging tough. Loyola won in OT against F. Dickinson. St Louis and Dayton won easily according to the final scores.

Rider up by 13 over PC at the half. This would take some of the sting out from last night, at least for me.

Certainly disappointing but not quite the same as us.

This is a tough road game at Wright State,

Last season they won the Horizon League Championship and lost in the 2nd round of the NCAAT to #1 seeded Arizonia.

They did but also return Calvin (14.6 pts).
Also have Missouri transfer Amari Davis (9 pts).

Not easy to open the first game on the road especially at the Nutter Center (8,000)

I agree though, and felt Davidson should win, but still wouldn't compare this to us playing Quinnipiac at home.

What a thriller, Davidson over Wright State 102-97 in 2OT.

Give Davidson a lot of credit for having the grit to come back on the road after being down 16 at the half.

It will still take Davidson a little time to find their groove after losing Brajkovic, Lee, Jones, and Bob McKillop.

Foster Loyer just missed a triple double with 38 points, 11 rebounds, 9 assists in 48 minutes
Trey Calvin had 37 points in 43 minutes for Wright State

Yeah, this was what I looked at:
https://fansided.com/betsided/posts/dav ... dcats-edge

"The Wildcats are slight 3.5-point favorites on Wednesday, November 8th, when they travel to Ohio to take on the Wright State Raiders. Tipoff for this contest is scheduled for 7:00 pm ET from the Nutter Center."

Davidson vs Wright State Odds

Team Moneyline Spread Total
Davidson Wildcats -172 -3.5 (-110) O 147.5 (-110)
Wright State Raiders +142 +3.5 (-110) U 147.5 (-110)
Odds as of November 8th at FanDuel Sportsbook. Claim the FanDuel Sportsbook promo code.

Still, Davidson was able to barely cover
This was a great victory for new HC Matt McKillop and the team.

And yeah, Foster Loyer is a stud.

That is an understatement.

Although Bellarmine isn't afraid to play the big boys.
Last season OOC they lost to Purdue, Gonzaga, UCLA, West Virginia, Murray State.

They did however win the ASUN conference championship.

Give credit to Louisville for playing Bellarmine which is located in Louisville. Louisville was only favored by 7.5 points.

Playing Bellarmine would be the equivalent of PC playing Bryant - never going to happen under Cooley's watch, he won't taketh chance

Bellarmine can't play in the NCAA Tourmament until 2025

Thanks again RR02 for continuing this thread.

Towson vs. UMass should be an interesting game.
Our old friends Pat Skerry and Parfait Bitee against Frank Martin.

UMass should win, but not expecting it to be easy.
Towson won 25 games last season and 15-3 CAA.

They also have a strong nucleus returning:
Timberlake- 1st team CAA, averaged 14 pts.
Holden - Also 1st team CAA, 13.5 pts/ 8 rebs.
Thompson - 2nd team CAA, 11 pts/7 rebs/2.2 blocks.
Gibson - Averaged 10 pts (43% 3pt)

Plus they added transfer Sylla who was both D2 and SSC POY, averaged 22 pts/ 10 rebs.

I'd say Townson has the edge.

Similar to our game, UMass has a new coach and a bunch of new pieces, while their opponent is back with multiple contributors and expected to challenge for their league title.

Yes 15, Towson is loaded this season.
Rothstein feels they will be one of the best mid-majors in the East.

Unlike us UMass returns a top player like Fernandes along with Weeks.
They also have some immediate impact transfers and 4* freshman big Gapare.

This should be a tough battle, maybe the UMass fans will show up.

Their attendance was 4963 with free tshirts to students. While much better than it had been that sounds like a disappointing number for them considering the giveaway and their roster is set up for more immediate success than we are

Gapare is likely out for Towson as he dislocated a finger. Cross was doubtful but Martin now says he’s ready for Towson.

Yes, Towson is probably the better team, but I felt UMass should win because of the home court.
Even though at the Mullins Center not so much.
I am also a little biased towards the A10.

Because this may be their toughest OOC home game, the fans might show up.

I think Towson is currently favored by 1 point.

Even though at the Mullins Center not so much.
I am also a little biased towards the A10.

Because this may be their toughest OOC home game, the fans might show up.

I think Towson is currently favored by 1 point.

Fans aren’t gonna come out because it’s Towson, I would guess the majority of students/fans couldn’t even name what state Towson is in.

Yes, Towson is probably the better team, but I felt UMass should win because of the home court.

Probably true.

Unless Martin and the local media really hype this game.
It is their Military Appreciation Night.

Hearing certain lines (Fan Duel) now making UMass a 3.5 point favorite.

Watching the UMass game. They seem to be having similar problems to what we had last Monday. They had just shy of 5K in attendance at their opener. Will be interesting to see attendance tonight. It looks like they have packed the seats behind the benches for TV. The rest of the arena looks fairly empty.

Yes Stevey, Towson is the better team.
Not that I like UMass but do root for the A10 teams OOC.
