"The Wisconsin-based Panthers now represent a potential future home game for the Rams in the coming seasons. URI will be scheduled to visit a pair of in-state rivals next season in Providence and Brown. The Rams also have a road meeting with Seton Hall to play at a date to be determined — the Pirates suffered a 76-63 loss at the Ryan Center early in the 2020-21 season"

Bill Koch article from 12/20 ProJo after Milwaukee cancellation. I'm going to pencil in the Milwaukee game for now pending further information. With no scheduled home games yet for the 23-24 season it's probably a safe bet they'll want to play this one

Moving the Milwaukee game to next season is not such a bad thing. This is a lost season and this game would mean nothing. With no home games under contract for next year, it helps in crafting a Ryan Center schedule. Coming off an atrocious 2022-23 season, the third straight losing campaign, will make scheduling next year even more difficult than it typically already is.

We need to get things back to a home and road rotation each season for the Brown and PC series. URI should push for the next Brown series contract start location to meet that objective.

Northwestern is having a good year, so far, despite getting portaled and losing a couple of key players from last season. I haven’t heard about or watched MSU or WSU.

Hopefully, the Tip Off provides next years Rams with a stern early season test of the quad 2 variety, at least.

In the past the tournament was eight teams and we would play in the top bracket at Mohegan and get two out of conference games from teams in the bottom bracket, however this season they only did the four team top bracket. It will be interesting to see what format they use next year as that could determine two of our home ooc games

Definitely a good slate. KenPom rankings as of right now:

Mississippi State: 45
Northwestern: 58
Washington State: 62

Should be a couple of Q1/Q2 games. Hopefully that stuff matters next year.

Would seem to have a tremendous home court advantage with none of these schools being particularly close to the area and their fans aren't known to have a crazy traveling fan base.

I think that might be the reason URI keeps getting invited back. They can reasonably expect decent ticket sales and concession sales.

This season PC also had that geographic advantage at the Mohegan Sun and lost both games.

Yea but where would you rather have the games played against these three teams, in some high school gym in the Caribbean, or 30 minutes away from campus?

Yea I could be completely wrong on this, but I think Rhody and PC get invited back every 4 years.

We were scheduled to play during 2020 but of course that was cancelled because of covid.

From a basketball or vacation perspective? Because let me tell you I was very OK with the high school gym in paradise setup.

That said - the Mohegan tourney FUCKS. I love it. I can't wait.

Yes. Rhody was originally slated for the HOF tournament that the casino annually hosts. Mohegan then became a bubble site with no fans for several tournaments due to covid concerns. The fields for these were in a constant state of flux up to days before they occurred. URI then changed tournaments playing in a stronger field.

With our dreadful season over, this thread now has more relevance. Anyone hearing anything about potential opponents? Lot of games need to be found, especially at home where Milwaukee is the only known contest. With the debacle of this season, URI will need a decent OOC home slate to sell tickets. PC is away next year. Will need at least one marquis game to promote ticket packages.

Agreed. My guess is that URI will work that in when the next series contract is signed. I think they have previously had to do this in the past when Brown visited URI in 2016 as part of the HOF Tournament.

Honestly, I'd target anyone with a NET in the 60 to 150 range that isn't completely turning its roster over - major, mid-major, the only good team in a conference of 12 tiny schools, whatever. I don't think "name" power conference schools will have any interest in playing us, since we were bad this year and we'll project to be bad next year too. So, might as well just focus on the next level down. The team was so bad this year, I don't think anything is really going to help attendance next year, short of going 10-0 out of the gate or something like that.

I have several suggestions since we need five or six additional home games . How about Princeton as a draw , following their current sweet sixteen appearance ? Others might include Hofstra , Iona , Penn , Kent State , Wichita State , take a shot at West Virginia since we played at WV and played them at Mohegan . How about Delaware or Drexel who don't have that much to lose playing at URI . Ohio U might be game to come to URI on a home and home. There are lots of mid level teams that might be willing to show up.

Even Milwaukee is a best guess. We're assuming they'll be here this year as a makeup of last year's Covid cancellation, but it was never specifically guaranteed

It appears that both UMass and St Bonaventure may be part of doubleheader event at the MassMutual Center in Springfield, MA. It had been known that UMass would meet West Virginia there as part of a series (similar to URI and WVU with Mohegan Sun/Morgantown series a few years back). There are now reports that there may be a second game involving St Bonaventure and 2023 NCAA Final-4 participant Florida Atlantic.

The Bonnies have made up for not getting good teams to Olean in recent years by playing many neutral site one off games. They played one game each in Sioux Falls-SD, Belmont Park-NY, and Brooklyn-NY this past season versus S Dakota State, Notre Dame, and Iona. This made up for them not playing in a MTE tournament event. SBU was in a three game MTE the season before in Charleston but still played neutral site games in Newark-NJ and Charlotte-NC versus UConn and Va Tech.
