Best of Old School Rhody & A10 - Rhody Vault
Figured we could have a place to post the great original content from Rhody Vault & A10 Vault.
To kick things off, I really enjoyed this interview with Phil Martelli about the great John Chaney.

Re: Best of Old School Rhody & A10 - Rhody Vault
I can't find many of the full interviews on Rhody Vault's YouTube site or website. For example, where's the rest of the Coach K interview? All these 90 second clips everywhere...
I think RV needs help with managing his growing content library. Last thing you want is for people to see a tweet with a preview clip, want to watch more of your content, and fail to locate it.

What a great time to be a Rhody fan. Agree with what everyone says regarding the team. Silk, Tommy and Kenny were the 3 superstars, but Evans, Bonzie and Mergin were also very big parts of that team

That was a very special team!
As a kid I remember how hot a cold January day felt inside Keaney. That Temple game in 88 was also Super Bowl Sunday.
Redskins vs Broncos.
Crazy to think penn state, West Virginia, and Rutgers were all in the A-10 for hoops.

I don’t remember nova or Pitt. Might be before my time. Ha ha
West Virginia and Rutgers were a-10 in hoops, football was big east.
Penn state was A-10 in hoops, all other sports were big 10 except football. Football was an independent
Correct?

Re: Best of Old School Rhody & A10 - Rhody Vault
Actually Villanova and Pitt were original members of the Eastern 8, which also included Duquesne, Rutgers, Penn State, GW, West Virginia, and Pitt.
Villanova left in 1980 and Pitt in 1982 prior to the conference renamed to the A10 in 1982.
URI (1980), Bonnies (1979), St. Joe's and Temple both in 1982, had also been added.

Re: Best of Old School Rhody & A10 - Rhody Vault
Before the initial Big East football conference WVU, Rutgers and Penn State were A-10 in everything.
The other 6 members were Temple, St Bona, St Joe, Mass, Duquesne & GW.
There were tiny buildings like Keaney, McGonigle and Curry Hicks, and massive places like the RAC, the Igloo and the Coliseum.

The Eastern-8/A-10 has greatly evolved over the years. It was originally mostly northeast public universities that were all contained in the Amherst-MA to Washington-DC to Morgantown-WV triangle. The ten departed all sports institutions that were once in the league included:
Villanova
Pittsburgh
Penn State
Rutgers
West Virginia
Virginia Tech
Temple
UNC-Charlotte
Xavier
Butler
Seven of these ten schools went directly to the two iterations of the Big East. An eighth team (Temple) was slated to go the original Big East but it disbanded before it was to occur and the school ended up in the AAC.
