He is certainly the most high profile player on our roster. Let's get him healthy to play.

Re: Brandon Weston (Seton Hall >>> ???)
Looks like he’s put on some significant weight from high school —> Seton Hall and now —> Rhody. Maybe from 180 to 210 lbs now?? All of his footage playing he is much much leaner. I wonder how this will effect him because it could have positives and negatives. With 1 year off of not playing I just hope he is conditioned and ready to go!

Is that post on the Seton Hall board accurate that Weston has not played in 3 years?

No senior year of high school and only one game as a true freshman in college. So they're rounding up?

Re: Brandon Weston (Seton Hall >>> URI )
So true. I thought he was wearing something else at first such as an AAU uniform as it has no recognition to any of the Rhody uniforms. How can we have such classy main uniforms and then come out with some washed out, no color, nothing burger for an Alternate uniform?? Trust me, this will not help recruiting, need to scrap those now and replace it with something, anything else. I really hope we do not wear these once next year, beyond pathetic. If you are looking not to be noticed in any way, these are the uniforms for you.

Excellent news!
The stealth staff is getting it done.
Keep these players here, healthy and improving and we
have the makings of something good.

Agreed. The color combination makes the uni lettering difficult to distinguish. I like the idea but maybe go darker with the blue so you can make out the lettering?

Based on Archie’s jacket at his presser maybe we’ll have plaid uniforms.

My favorite stat about him is his career fouls per 40 minutes. It is almost as impressive than the infamous Aris Tsourgiannis.

actually Aris stats were fouls per second. Only listed as fouls per minute as a rounding error

Hey Guys. It's Scott Brand. I am going to interview Marcus Gantt, Brandon Weston's high school coach from Hillcrest Prep tomorrow afternoon at 2 pm.
I was wondering if you have any questions for Brandon's former high school coach.
Thanks

Re: ‘21 NY SF Brandon Weston (Seton Hall >>> URI Transfer)
Scott,
Congrats on landing this interview
1. Do you see Brandon landing a starting spot for URI right from Game 1?
2. Which player or players would you compare Brandon’s game to?
3. What game (or games) in particular stood out to you regarding Brandon during his season at Hillcrest? What did he do to impress you?
4. Is Brandon 1st Team A10 potential? NBA potential? And why?
5. Hillcrest Prep signed a branding deal with rap superstar Meek Mill's Dream Chasers company. How much does this mean for Hillcrest and your players?
6. How do you see NIL impacting recruiting for Prep Schools like Hillcrest and the overall College recruiting landscape?
7. Do you see Transfers increasing, staying the same or decreasing over the next few years?
8. What is Brandon’s greatest strength? Next greatest strength? Biggest opportunity for improvement?
9. How happy should URI fans be with Brandon coming to URI? What will URI fans be saying about Brandon in March 2023?
Thanks

Any update on his health status/ injury issues and is he in game shape?
What part of his game does he need to work on the most?

My job is done. Great research. Phenomenally worded questions. My conclusion from my research is he has the potential to the most impactful transfer or recruit as anyone since Sly Williams.
Not a question about him starting right from the get go. The ball will go through him.

Scott, don't automatically pencil him in as a starter.sbrand wrote: ↑2 years ago My job is done. Great research. Phenomenally worded questions. My conclusion from my research is he has the potential to the most impactful transfer or recruit as anyone since Sly Williams.

Remember he has hardly played since his HS junior year.
He has injury concerns.
Archie may want to take his time with him and not rush him, which makes a little sense.
I am not saying he definitely shouldn't start, we just don't need to put a ton of pressure on him from the get go.

I think Weston is a program changer. I’d be surprised if he doesn’t start. Even if he’s not 100% his talent alone should make him one of the better players on the team. I think we will see some rust early on and then he really starts to breakout during the A10 season.

Agree. Weston is a starter from Day 1. A lock. He averaged 18ppg and 7+ rebounds for Hillcrest Prep in Arizona.sbrand wrote: ↑2 years ago My job is done. Great research. We need players of his caliber as Starters. No need to be cautious with a player who has played at the levels he has.
Kids today want playing time now. 1 year at a time then they assess their options year after year. Give him the ball, watch him rebound. Love it.
But let’s see what his former Coach says.

Excited to see Weston on the court at full speed. Hopefully, there is no mental hang up’s from the injuries. Sometimes the mental aspect lingers even when the physical aspect the injury is fully healed.

Yeah, Sly was an All-American and an NBA 1st round draft pick.I think that's a little much. If he can become as good as someone like Jared Terrell, I'd be thrilled.Jdrums#3 wrote: ↑2 years agoOoph. Sly’s an all-timer. Tough to put those expectations on a new entry to the program. That said, I’d be damn happy if he makes first team A10 selection. I think the potential is there for him with Archie here to coach him up over the next 3 years.
Really looking forward to the upcoming season to see how all these questions start to play out.

Maybe Sly is a reach, but I think Brand is saying that he could be an all-time great Ram and I totally agree...He didn't say that he's Sly Williams. I truly believe that Weston has the POTENTIAL to be the A10 player of the year before he graduates and possibly play in the NBA if everything clicks. The most sought-after player in the NBA right now is a two-way wing. I felt the same way about guys like EC and JT when they came in freshman year...
We'll have to see if everything works out, but I trust he'll reach his full potential under this staff.

Yeah, but that statement says he has the potential to be better than Silk Owens, Tyson Wheeler, Tommy Garrick, Kenny Green, Cuttino Mobley, etc., etc.,etc....and anyone else who has played since Sly. That's crazy.steveystuds06 wrote: ↑2 years agoMaybe Sly is a reach, but I think Brand is saying that he could be an all-time great Ram and I totally agree...He didn't say that he's Sly Williams. Re: ‘21 NY SF Brandon Weston (Seton Hall >>> URI Transfer)
I hope Weston's injury issues are behind him because he has a ton of potential.
He is capable of leading our team, being the new face of our program, and whom we can build around.
Let's see how he performs first before we start comparing him to some of our greatest players of all-time.
Putting things into perspective.
When Diggins committed to UMass, we all felt we got the better deal with Bray, I agree.
By the way Diggins as a recruit was ranked #59 (247 and rivals), Bray was #200.
Weston was ranked #75 rivals and #83 (247)
He also comes with some injury concerns.
Carey who many here have dissed was a a Rivals, 247, and ESPN top 60 recruit.
I expect Weston to be a major contributor for us, but also willing to be patient with him.

Re: ‘21 NY SF Brandon Weston (Seton Hall >>> URI Transfer)
My comparison could definitely be an overreach but let’s not include all-time greats in that list that were not heavily recruited. I just spent a half a day researching him and watching video that surprised me as to how great of a recruit we are getting. And he played against some of the best but Rhody fans know better than anyone how ratings at the end of the day really can mean very little until they perform at the next level. One thing is for sure, this kid has all the tools to become someone really special that can potentially take over a game.
Only time will tell.

Aside from some of the few blue-chip recruits it is always a gamble to see how these kids pan out.
I also have watched video on him and am also very familiar with SH growing up near their campus.
I was ecstatic with the Archie hire and almost as much with bringing in Duane Woodward.
Like I said Weston is capable of being special here (along with some of the other recruits) and am really looking forward to your interview with his HS coach.

Re: ‘21 NY SF Brandon Weston (Seton Hall >>> URI Transfer)
If he had the potential to be the 2nd best player to ever play at URI, he'd be the star at Seton Hall (or better) for the next few years.
