13. Pitt (11-3, lost to Michigan State in the Peach Bowl)

QB Kenny Pickett finished third in the Heisman voting, but the Panthers will replace him with USC transfer Kedon Slovis (7,576 career passing yards). He'll certainly love throwing to Jordan Addison, the Biletnikoff Award winner with his 1,593 receiving yards and 17 touchdowns.

13. Pittsburgh

jordan addison pitt football
College Football HQ says: Kenny Pickett is gone from the defending ACC championship squad, but Pitt scored what could be the difference-maker at the position in former USC starter Kedon Slovis. A 65% passer with 11 TDs and eight picks last fall, he inherits a major release valve in wide receiver Jordan Addison, one of the nation's top five pass catchers, whose 17 TDs led college football overall and were the ACC's most since Deandre Hopkins' 18 in 2012. Pitt's season opener against rival West Virginia took an interesting turn after the Mountaineers signed transfer quarterback JT Daniels. That makes this game must-see TV.

I read this morning that Addison may put his name in the portal this weekend: rumors of tampering by USC.

Yep! He's definitely gone. Sadly for them.

Good for us!

He would have absolutely abused our DB's.

No. 23 Pittsburgh 34, Western Michigan 13: KALAMAZOO, Mich. – Pitt junior running back Israel Abanikanda carried the ball 31 times for 131 yards and a touchdown to lead the No. 23 Panthers to a 34-13 victory over Western Michigan on Saturday.
Pitt (2-1) was without its top two quarterbacks for the nonconference contest, but third-string signal caller Nate Yarnell was efficient under center, going 9-for-12 passing for 179 yards and a touchdown.
Western Michigan (1-2) had its opportunities, with a 31-yard double pass from receiver Anthony Sambucci to receiver A.J. Abbott for a touchdown that cut Pitt’s lead to 20-13 heading into the fourth quarter.
Pitt responded on its next drive when Yarnell found sophomore receiver Konata Mumpfield for a 6-yard touchdown reception to give the Panthers a twoscore cushion. Redshirt junior running back Daniel Carter would ice the game with 3:03 to play in the fourth quarter when he plunged in for a 4-yard touchdown run.

A week after being off the two deep at linebacker, Gabe Salomons is back listed as a starter, with AJ Pena moving from starter to backup. Jarrett Martin has moved from second at that linebacker spot to backup behind Malachi Burby in place of Christian Arrington

42-10 Pitt. I would not be surprised if it is close after the first quarter. Then Pitt exploits URI's defense and takes some shots down field to open this one up.

Pat Narduzzi played LB for URI after transferring in from Youngstown State. He was a coach at URI from 1993 to 1999.
Very appreciative of Pat scheduling this Game with URI generating $450k for URI making the trip to Pittsburgh.
My guess is he will not run up the score to the maximum possible.

So when have we seen enough to move on from Hill again?

How many wide open throws do we have to see 5 yards over head before we give the kid from Bama a chance?

Literally 2 home runs given up. Otherwise D has looked to the task.

That said - hill is a FBS transfer who played in the ACC. Started 10 games. He should not be intimidated by the moment.

He looks lost. Panics. Struggles to throw. We can’t even call a pass on 3rd and 5 because we don’t have confidence. New QB time.

URI Defense has been good against Pitt so far.

All of Pitt's points so far on two big plays: a Kickoff return (special teams) and a 67 yard rush.

Ok, so Pitt runs it in from 12 yards out after a 7 and a half minute drive.

This is where it becomes important as to how long this Defense is gets to stay off the field before they have to defend another long Pitt drive.

I believe the backup in the juco kid that started at Temple. He has come in for a few plays when Hill was banged up.

Another long drive, URI Defense forces a 4th and 7 on their own 13 and holds Pitt to a Field Goal.

Another 7 min drive for Pitt, so URI Defense has been on the field for 14 of the last 15.5 mins of the game.

Holding them to a FG is a positive.

Now, once again, what does this Offense do with the ball, they've been off the field forever.

The Pitt Offense gave up on trying to establish a passing game. Nothing fancy like Delaware last week with trick plays, they know the can just ram the ball on the ground against the URI Defense, and sooner or later they are going to soften.

I agree jcru, that was a big possession. Get the defense some rest, drain the clock. 1 more solid minjte from defense, and regroup down 10 at halftime. All things considered down 10 isn’t as bad as it could be considering how they’ve played.

I think the team is much improved from last week despite the score. That was very humbling last week, and this is a good sign from this team, to work on the things that they need improvement in.

Defense is doing a really good job so far, they were getting tired out there those last 2.5 Pitt drives, but they forced a FG and the end of the half the last two.

Special Teams have been good with the exception of the one big play by Pitt.

The Offense has been better, but they have also had a few drives where they mailed it in, so there is room for improvement there, I don't think that is too harsh a comment to make. At the same time, the two scoring drives were very good.

I think the Defense has a nice progression going on so far, from week to week.

From playing the likes of Stony Brook and Bryant, to getting decimated vs Delaware, and now Pitt.

They got brutalized last week, but they are showing the ability to absorb more punishment for longer periods of time this week, without breaking.

And you hope that isn't necessary every week, but that kind of endurance is just as important for the Defense to develop as the ability to be a play making kind of Defense.

Chewed up 8 mins off the clock, and thoroughly beat up the Pitt D.

Burkhalter isn't even second string, and even if you wanted to go with him this isn't the game for him to get his first college action

I have no idea how the referees could rule it a fumble, we could come out of the pile with it, and not get a replay when called Pitt ball

Maybe it was something clear, but show us the replay? That was a turning point play. Get the ball on their side of the field down 14. Follow that up with a TD and its a single possession game, we have all the momentum and you never know… Now we are down 21 and its pretty much over.
