Should this thread be moved to the Lady Hoops section?

I think eventually. But I posted it here because it's huge news and a lot of people don't check out the women's section.

This is a program transforming commitment, by Coach Reiss AND the University. The value of athletic success is greater than traditional marketing - growth of URI as an educational institution and an athletic powerhouse are closely linked. The future is bright!!

This is great news, the Ryan Center should once again be a place to see some great basketball from both the men's and women's team.

Yes. People need to get used to looking at other parts of the site, not just men's hoops

The men's and the women's BB program have both officially entered the big time!

Huge commitments by the school.

Well done!

These numbers are incredible. Did Parlange and Thor stumble onto some previously undiscovered gold mine on campus none of us knew about?

This was offered mid-Feb as well.

Parlange isn't your parent's URI president.

Things are different. We've had past presidents who said they supported Thorr. This is the first one who's ACTUALLY putting his money where his mouth is, and supporting the best AD on the planet.

Nope. President Parlange selflessly put his own projects for his vision of URI aside, to lean into Thorr's vision and how successful athletics programs.

This is the first time in our lives that URI, the institution, is supporting our athletic ventures at a first-class rate.

The whole thread and all the replies were great! While I don't know if UVa reached out to here or if she was a serious candidate, it's great to know that UVa was the only real threat at the time, and now in her early 50s is locked down long term here and can retire here if she chooses. I might be jumping the gun, but could be the female Frank Keaney!

Tammi agrees:

'I've never met an AD like Thorr Bjorn.'

This is another big athletics commitment from URI. You have to wonder whether the change in governing structure made these possible. The independent URI Board of Trustees was recently established in 2020 to oversee the school. URI is no longer under the control of the old RI Governors of Higher Education which jointly managed URI, RIC, and CCRI. The old board had many appointees with no connections to URI. They were tasked with governing three schools with much different missions who often had competing interests. I would think a board that has just the interests of URI now has much more flexibility.

So this is something

Also just retweeted the women's basketball post with no commentary. Yeah, they were teammates, but that's an NCAA champion women's basketball head coach with URI tweets on her timeline. Think about all the high school players that follow her and will be seeing those

Did President Dooley walk so President Parlange could run?

Dan Yorke program featuring Tammy Reiss. First 3 minutes discuss the Oscars, then three minutes to six minutes same discussion but Tammy gives her view points on the incident. From six minutes on just talks about the new contract, the investment the School is making in Women's basketball including how they charter to almost every A10 away game. Good program (except Yorke asking if URI can be like Uconn, what, come on Dan, be Real, Uconn has been the most dominant program in Ladies basketball for a long time, stupid question and discussion, not the Coaches fault). OK the last ten minutes is not great, she has to correct him about the Ryan Center being a bad arena if it is empty, she stops him and talks about the Carrier dome being empty being a bad arena). Still worth watching.

And I found out from that video that today is her birthday. Happy B-Day Coach Reiss! (she turns 52, hey she mentions that in the Video I am not letting out a state secret).

What was UConn before Auriemma? What was the big east before UConn? Is it Rhody and the A10 now? Why not us?

So happy that Tammi is staying. I have been following the women's team since my former player Marcus was on the last staff. The program is in such great shape now. I was so worried when the Virginia job opened up. Now we need to get people to the Ryan Center to watch them. Kids 12 and younger can sign up for Rhody Ruckus jr. and go to the games for free. Also agree that she looks much younger.
