My guess is someone has been working for Rhody that we don't know about (I'm sure some know) while KJ has been working for GT. I don't see this as a huge deal. Either they're covered in that area for now, or they aren't...and if they aren't, it'll be evident enough at some point. I trust that Arch has the right/enough folks working on this. If/when an announcement is made, it's not going to all of a sudden turn on the team building jets, like the right player announcement would.
I expect someone to camp outside the Ryan center and report back about every transfer visiting and a possible new assistant coach.
I'll do it. You got a tent I can use.

Probably waiting for all the HR, Background check stuff to come back.. No reason to be snarky about it there Billy Boy

Gotcha... My guess is they are keeping him quiet so that he can work in the phones in an almost incognito way as the portal gets ready to close down on May 1.

I am not sure what purpose that serves.

I just feal that a deal hasn't been finalized yet.

We aren’t living in the Baron era. Thorr and Archie have a plan in place. KJ didn’t leave yesterday.

That is unfortunate for me as a fan.

Back to trying to be patient. Serenity now…serenity now.

Now, that that is settled, in the earlier words of PRT, where the bigs at ?! :D

Whoever suggested Brian Gregory I think was onto something. There is the obvious Dayton connection between Archie and Gregory and then you factor in Gregory's head coaching days are likely over based on age and overall results so a top assistant to Archie makes a lot of sense. Especially with someone else mentioning it's a former HC who sat out last year.

Turgeon is 10 times the coach that Gregory is but did he ever cross paths with Miller? My source said Archie was 'hiring one of his guys' but didn't have a name.

Nobody has offered their tent yet.

If I get one where should I put it? I always liked the Ellery Pond area. A tent, some binoculars for a good view of the RC and Keaney, coffee and a bagel (daily), and I'm set to go.

I got nothin’, 78. No tent. I never got into camping.

The closest I’ve been to camping is walking into a Dick’s Sporting Goods.

I have a feeling its Phil Martelli - known Archie for a while dating back to Dayton days. Son coaching down the street. Out of a job after Howard fired.

Do we have to retire the Young Frankenstein moniker if he comes here ?

That would suck. I always enjoyed that one going back to when I first started lurking here.

Mark Turgeon was mentioned above but I can't see him taking on an assistant's job at a place like URI. He was a head coach in the Big Ten and Big-12 and led three programs (Wichita St, Texas A&M, and Maryland) to ten NCAA's with a couple of Sweet-16's. The Kansas native Turgeon has a career winning percentage of .635 with a record of 479-275. He was last making about $3.5M at Maryland. It would be an incredibly big step down to take an assistant job at about $250k in a league like the A-10 at a school that has been one its bottom feeders most of the last four seasons. I just cannot envision that happening.

Yeah looking at it from the outside, it doesn't make much sense.
Aside from both of them coaching in the BIG, how much affiliation do they have with each other?
Besides Turgeon is a Midwest guy and I am sure if he wanted, he could do better than URI.

Just guessing but maybe Charles Thomas on the short list, unless Joyce hires him back for the Dukes.

He was an assistant last season at SLU and before that many years for Dambrot at Akron and Duquesne.

He also happens to be from Dayton, Ohio.

But the source said the person was last in a Head Coach position 2 years ago in 2022 and he hasn’t been a Head Coach since - he was not an Assistant Coach 2 years ago.

If it were to be a former head coach with name school experience, I would think someone like a Brian Gregory is far more likely than a Mark Turgeon. Gregory only had a career win percentage of .533 with an overall record of 327-287. His nineteen seasons as a head coach resulted in just two NCAA bids which happened in his first six seasons at Dayton. His last gig was at South Florida where he went 79-107. He is probably no longer in line for any plum jobs. If he were to coach, it would probably have to be a head coach at a low tier school (below A-10 level) or an assistant.

The only reason we found out about Johnson was someone found a blurry picture from a URI practice and somehow identified it was Johnson.

Follow the clues
a former URI player played for this guy?

Just as Kenny Johnson was kept secret as well
The only reason we found out about Johnson was someone found a blurry picture from a URI practice and somehow identified it was Johnson.
True. But I’m referring to Johnson going to Georgetown. He was there working and un-announced at Georgetown for a while before “blurry picture” type leak escaped.

No. That’s my point. “This guy” has never been a Head Coach.

The clue is the new guy was a HC but stopped being a HC 2 years ago.

Yeah but everyone knew he was gone, or could be gone. Was reported over a month ago. There are people that know who this guy is, but won't leak the info.

No. Johnson was gone before it was leaked out or announced.

Ramfan22 is talking about when KJ came to URI. That is the only way we knew he was here was by one IG video that was posted and he was seen in the background

Yes, I know. That’s why I made the statement above. The conversation was about the current move by Johnson to Georgetown. Two different conversations here.

Either way whether Johnson was coming to URI or going to Georgetown fact is the move was already made before the rumor mill got wind of it of before the formal announcement was made.

Also got to keep Rhody Vault in suspense on who the replacement is.
