That said, again, Hammond and his coaches have talked about Archie Miller as a main reason for coming to URI.

Also, with how overbearing and involved Georgetown boosters are - do you think they’re going to throw significant NIL money at a player who will be 3rd on their PG depth chart?

Hammond is a priority for URI. He has significant playing time ahead of him here.
Doesn't matter how much sense you make here. Someone already claimed that losing KJ is top 3 worst personnel losses all time here at URI....HC included
Georgetown fans were making fun of whoever said that, and how everyone on here was overreacting.
Good to see the Hoya fans coming to KB

Yeah KJ has done some amazing things here. Last years talent he brought in has to be one of the best of all time. Other than being connected to Hammond he has done zero. 😂

I agree.

As long as Hammond stays, he can leave and no one will lose any sleep.

Replace him with a GM as old style recruiting is as dead as a dodo.

Or better yet replace him with a defensive and FT coach.

When people are saying that Kenny did nothing here, are you considering the fact that there is a money restriction on what type of player we can get? We probably couldn't afford the type of player you guys want him to get. But maybe we could now? If he goes to Georgetown, watch the players that he gets there. It was actually a waste to have him here the past 2 years. He can recruit the top talent in the country, but those aren't the type of players we can afford. But if he's still here, and we have more money, we still can't get the top talent, but we can probably get a better level of talent than we have now. I'm not the one who said he's one of the biggest losses ever, but he is a loss, if we have the money that people think we'll have. Despite the money restriction, he got us a really good point guard on possibly the best high school team in the country. He also got our current 2 best players in House and Green.

Somebody has to know what KJ's deal is right now.

Obviously no one on this board knows.

Would be nice to get an update at least.

Hammond too.

See this is sensible! He has gotten us quality players, he would continue to do so if he stays and he's a tough one to replace.

Us having competitive NIL can help us land a quality replacement.

Oh, but I'm sure that's just wishful thinking because everything sucks

We are doomed

We weren't rebuilt in two years, we have no hope!

Very good brief rant of doom porn there, PRT. Made me laugh.

Reminded me of Hudson, from the second Aliens movie, when the ship crashed on the way to pick up the group of survivors from the search party.

Good stuff!

This program is not without hope.

I know that.

But I have to see results before my attitude changes.

Some of you can't seem to figure this out.

Sign some better talent.

Win games with that talent.

I'll wait.

Can’t be upset at anyone moving on for more money. We all would do it.

Will be supporting regardless through the ups and downs. The doom gloom is valid cause dammit I want the wins too but man collectively this community will go farther with the belief that this program still has a positive future that I want to give what I can even if it’s a small part. This program is bigger just one player or one coach. I want KJ and Hammond 1000% because it’s exciting and new but I’m not going to blame them or URI should things change. We will keep what what we can afford and you truly never know how a new team will perform until game time. Attitude and team dynamics. No one would of thought Duquanse would have had the year that did yet somehow they did..

Assuming this is true, why would you want to go to a program that bad with that kind of disruption in the area? If you were the guy, why did you need to wait weeks just to be named? Yeah the money's better, but it seems like better situations would be available at a later date

Is it just me or does anyone else feel that Georgetown seems to like to screw over URI athletics?

Gordon Ernst 2018 - GU AD gives URI a good ref even though he knows he is tied to ongoing admission scandal

Antawn Walker 2019 - GU dismisses Walker from the team. He sits out a full year of basketball but GU still fights to deny eligibility at URI as the calendar is instead based on transfer date.

Kenny Johnson 2024 - ???

How the hell are they screwing us over now?

They’re hiring one of the best DMV recruiters in the country to come back home.

That’s not screwing anyone, these hires happen every single year.

Cooley already has a freshman pg coming in next year. Zero chance he goes into next year with two freshman pgs when he desperately needs to win.

OK didn't think of that if GM was his other choice definitely something to worry about. Skinn is a good recruiter.

Well as of the last couple days Ben has liked or reposted anything that has to do with him coming here.

He's liked tweets that say stuff like "can't wait to see you play at Rhody!"

That and how on every broadcast they talked about his deep connection with Archie Miller.

One thing I have learned after all my years of following sports, that anything can happen regarding coaches, current players, or recruits.
This is especially true in today's college basketball/football landscape.

So, it is almost impossible to say for sure what will transpire when it comes to coaches or player movement.

I agree. It’s a talent rich area that compels us to have a presence.

78, is Farello one of the candidates that was under consideration at Georgetown ?

I haven’t studied the prep programs in the DMV. I wonder who else from the prep DMV ranks could be a potential Rhody assistant ?

Mason has a pretty good PG Baraka Okojie who just finished his FR year.
He torched us and seems to be slotted in as their starter next year. So much so Polite the veteran PG transferred out. I don't think that is a likely landing spot either if he wanted to go elsewhere.

Apparently, KJ has a recruit he would take to GTOWN, but it's not one of ours. My guess is we wouldn't be able to afford that player here. I don't think anyone truly knows. There are GTOWN people on Twitter claiming it's a done deal. I think that's who Scott Brand and others are hearing from. We will know soon. Landing Coit would make me forget about KJ fast. Can we finally get some good news?

This day was going to come sooner or later. Time to move on.

It appears likely that Hammond stays so, that lessens the loss of KJ for me. Also, I didn’t expect that KJ would be here beyond next year after all the buzz with Georgetown this offseason. I figured more suitors for his services would come calling again - especially if he landed us a few notable transfers.

Big decision coming up for KJ’s replacement. Like 78 referenced earlier, I favor looking for an assistant from the DMV as my first option. Too much prep player talent there to overlook.

RF1, I am sure there are programs that have been coming at Hammond hard since the KJ rumors started. It is the nature of recruiting. The assistants at programs are like circling sharks waiting for a scent of blood in the water so they can pounce.

I will never say never - regarding Hammond flipping - but I think he comes here for next season. No guarantees beyond next season however with the no sit transfer rule.

It'll be interesting to see what direction Archie goes with this hire. I assume he has known Kenny will be leaving for a while now and has already begun the process if not even decided on the replacement already. Hopefully it's someone who can bring some players with them!

I'm sure he's prepared with options. Also, wonder if he would go unconventional route with using the role for a GM type? Nobody will replace KJ recruiting wise, but with Duane, Austin and Christen - we have some resources.

Good alternative perspective.

How about someone with connections to Europe ? Or, elsewhere overseas ?

Basketball has become such a global game that there’s plenty of talent outside the traditional USA areas. I tend to overlook overseas recruiting hotspots.

I am excited to find out who Archie selects.

It's on Archie. Assistants come and go. Dan lost some great assistants. KJ will do great with more money, but he hasn't done much for us, and neither has Archie. Maybe a new assistant is what we need to get out of this decline.

The rumors went from KJ being gone early last week to KJ staying. Then, this weekend, it returned to KJ being 100% gone. But now the new rumor rumbling around is the deal may not have gone through, so it's not 100%. He's likely gone, but nothing is official yet. At least not publicly. Until it is, anything can happen.

The only thing I know for a fact is a friend of mine who coaches has been contacted about a potential position at URI. So they definitely have been putting out feelers.

So, while Kenny has been recruiting for Georgetown, we've been short an assistant?

Different world than it used to be and it lessens the importance of having an assistant coach that is a great recruiter. I thought that is fairly obvious by the result of the first two classes he helped bring in. Were any of them, other than the kid from GW who did not work out, his recruits or anything remotely special? Good for Cooley to bring him home to his local recruiting routes, but I fail to see how this is any crippling blow for a program that is as the bottom of the A10. Like can it get worse? Jeez I hope not.

Bur I will say this, what the f is up with the timing? Why was this dragged out for three weeks? There was no need for that. it looks like the higher ups at Georgetown had to be convinced to sign off on this hire and it took some time. Not a good sign for Mr. Johnson, I would not go someplace that the person hiring me had to plead for 3 weeks to upper management to sign on to.

He brought our 2 best players, House and Green here last year. And he got our only 2 high school recruits coming this year. It can get worse.
